Here is the flip side of the upload "Lucky In Love" by Lou Gold Orchestra, on Australian Paramount, I have the same record on a Regent label as well, the Regent is in rough shape so what You are hearing is the Paramount, just wanted to share another BEAUTIFUL Australian label with you - this side sounds as if it was recorded by a different process than the Lucky In Love side, and it gets a tad weak towards the end - I had to do quite a bit of cleaning on it as well!! I hope You all will enjoy this wonderful 1920s great!

The most uplifting and snappiest syncopated orchestration of this very famous tune, glorified by the cute vocal and then explodes up to the end, an other….. Dimestore quality performance!!!! Thank you for sharing

Thankyou for this delightful version of that great Broadway tune! The rare record labels are beautiful to see! Very invigorating performance by Lou Golds band! Recorded ten days before the great collegiate themed show would open! The pit band was George Olsen who recorded it for Victor on August 18, 1927. The show was so popular it ran all through 1928 and into January 1929! I've noticed an oddity about Olsen's gig with this famous Broadway hit show. A month prior to it's Jan. 5, 1929 last curtain, on December 4th of 1928, Olsen was opening/appearing as the pit band in Ziegfeld's new musical comedy, "Whoopee!" Both shows overlapped that month and George Olsens Music was the pit band for both!! What??!!! So the question is, what other orchestra filled in for "Good News" in December 1928 through January 5th 1929 ? Was it Abe Lyman? How the heck did Ziegfeld convince George Olsen to "up and leave" that great smash hit show Good News during its famous run?? Seems unbelievable. Did Ziegfeld promise George a big feature actress role for his wife, Ethyl Shutta? If he will just agree to play the show?? As we all know, Ethyl stars in Whoopee with Eddie Cantor! And in the movie version too! And did you know, Ruby Keeler was originally doing the Stetson Hat number but was dropped from the show!? Ethyl Shutta wanted to do it and replaced her! Then Zeigfeld produces another show featuring Ruby Keeler called, "ShowGirl" a few months later! Was that a concession for Ruby so she wouldn't be hurt for getting bumped out of Whoopee by George Olsen's wife? I can imagine Ziegfeld telling Ruby," Don't worry about not dancing in Whoopee Ruby, I will give you your own show, and you will be its BIG STAR! And we will call it, ShowGirl! And it will have the best music for you, I will hire Gershwin to write your songs!! Just for you, baby!! It will be my biggest hit show ever, and It's going to make you famous! " And the rest is history! I kinda think this all happened! Maybe Lou Golds band finished out that last month of Good News! On the strength of this great record he gets my vote! 🎉 🎶 Thankyou Bobby for cleaning up all the scratches off this great record. It sounds wonderful. ❤

Ethel Shutta had a better singing voice than Ruby Keeler. Ruby was better looking and it's not surprising that she became a star. She would have been a bigger star if it wasn't for her then husband, Al Jolson. They made a movie together in 1936 that was excellent and got good reviews. Warner Brothers wanted them to make another movie together. Al Jolson's response, "I'm going back to radio where it's my show". Keeler's career went downhill after that and so did her marriage to Jolson. On December 28, 1940, Reno, Nevada, her divorce became final.

Thanks benzo! I tried to make this sound much better than the other side, it was a tad rough, but still enjoyable!

@@rjtwigg1 Great insightful comment! Something new has surfaced from 1929 here on RU-vid that you should check out. A private Record love letter of sorts from Al Jolson in Hollywood to his young wife Ruby Keeler in New York while he was at Warners making his first all talkie, *Say It With Songs". and Ruby was headlining her Ziegfeld show, "Showgirl'. Al was so proud of himself making the latest high tech sound on disc talkies, he had the Vitaphone sound engineers let him record a personal love letter record that he could mail to his sweetie for a first ever talking singing novelty! His narcissistic self grandizing is all there, plus his passion for Ruby, plus a direction to her to allow him to cheat on her with his star-struck new movie fans, plus an admonition that his show-biz career was more important than hers. It's quite an eye opener!!! It supports everything you said so eloquently. By the way, ShowGirl, which opened in July of 1929 is the very show where Al attended the grand opening, then when Ruby went into her song and dance, Al stood up singing her stuff and totally upstaged her! Probably felt innocent of hogging the spotlight, just so proud of his hot young wife, he wanted the world to know she was not only Ziegfeld s hottest new 1929 model showgirl, but also MRS. AL JOLSON, his baby!

OMG this is a truly sensational, particularly colorful, sparkling and energetic version of this tune! Both Scrappy Lambert and Lou Gold are in exceptional form and only superlatives apply to this arrangement and rendition. Thank you so much for sharing this stunning gem!
