arguably the best wc videos on youtube...you guys are very lucky having adam as an instructor...wc is a simple and efficient art but many of its instructors make it complicate and hard to understand ...this guy breaks it down and makes it easy and simple as it should be...keep up your videos adam my regards from greece

Only just found his channel via a recommended video and i agree. He's one of the best practitioners online in terms of "no bullshit", breaking down techniques, giving reasons behind why you do things and not just saying "do this move if someone attacks like this". Severely underrated channel and i can see myself learning a lot from him

Of course these instructors make them wc teaching difficult: the longer you struggle to develop your wc skills, much more time you keep going in them class to learn... or they are incompetents...

Always fun and educational to watch Mr. Chan do his thing. I find that against bigger guys lowering your center of gravity works ;)

There are many metaphors that makes Wing Chun rich in using concepts regarding modern day vehicles to draw from to create a better understanding of how they can work more effectively. Makes me wonder that in the past that they were doing the same thing but instead of machines using the similarities with animals instead, as they didn't have machines like we do in their day. We in today's world are very much mechanically inclined as we rely upon technology in a big way compared to back in their day, as we are not exactly living next to a White Crane bird sanctuary or concerned about getting a snake bite while working in an office. Could we be missing something in the modern day Wing Chun, using mechanical reasoning compared to the past with animal, or are we better off than them or just different?

Wing Chun has "animal elements", it's derived from a snake and crane. But obviously don't fight like a snake or crane (if u can teach me pls lol). These animal ideas are just to give you a feel of how wing chun should feel, it's not accurate but it helps beginners and intermediates to do things correctly. In the end you are taught to be proficient (hopefully) in applying Wing Chun concepts and skills, it's fine to have more mechanical reasoning nowadays, as long as it facilitates the student.

@JIN TAO. I think the main reason Kung Fu systems like to emulate animals is to build structure in order to facilitate movements naturally and efficiently; the fighting technique is just coincidental that man developed. i hope this may contribute to your interest in WC, which has alot to do with internal cultivation ie mind and body to achieve optimum efficiency.

@ everyone. The old steam engine train that has arms fixed out and one to the wheel is similar to chain punching, where with forward momentum in a straight line similar to a train on rails; as if to be in front of a run away train. This to my mind being a modern WC concept due to easily being compared to or derived from a type of machine. WC being older than mechanical engineering incorporated concepts being similar to the Crane & Snake to my mind is an older version than the one we have today. Wherby the older version pre machine age of WC of animals is likely going to be more apparent with sensitivitities by sticking with all body parts whilst standing, clinching and rolling on the ground as animals fighting occurs naturally. Where as today's modern WC having arms extended "continually" is to my mind is becoming similar to the wooden dummy that all other MA systems can get past, be it using high kicks or going low by shooting in, or boxers that can slip past, in a variety of ways and angles. Modern WC losing oftern in bouts to other disciplines due to becoming less multidimensional than the pre machine era due to being more rigged and mechanical; as being described as looking like poor kickboxers wherby losing out on using power with relaxation; be it in the clinch or otherwise. As with the earlier pre mechanical WC wanting to be as close to the opponent sticking if possible than what is happening today. As more contact with the opponent more control and more information received. Seemingly with arms stretched out in a stand off-ish type of way, turning towards the opponent similar to a rudder that steers a boat. Where the modern steam train concept is dominating WC more than it should be? Overlooking the sticking grappling gameplay that many other disciplines use including the stand up toe to toe boxer and Muay Thai fighter in the clinch? If WC is a close combat fighting system then why is it so reluctant to do so?

This os exactly what I was talking about in another video when asked about tai chi and fighting. If one's structure is disrupted then you can't pull of trapping, striking, China, etc.. I have to believe that like bagua and Dong Hai Chuan that most early Yang tai chi students learned other arts before training tai chi. And I believe this is why people like Adam Mizner who first trained Southern Mantis became such a good fighter with his tai chi. He already had the above skills before training tai chi. So when you watch him play with students, he first uses tai chi to disrupt their structure and then finishes with chinna or trapping and striking. Which is fine if you have the time to train this way. However, in many of the old southern systems, one first has to develop the fist-foot skills for fighting and later develops higher structural skills.

Footwork is much more important than handwork. If the footwork of Wing Chun doesn't improve, it is hard to face other martial art styles. Boxers and wrestlers all have insanely good footwork.

So against a bigger person who has good structure, you need to have better sensitivity?
@gthicks006
@gthicks006 4 года назад
Why choose one? You can be smaller and have better structure than a larger person and in turn up root them as they attack. Or you can be smaller with better sensitivity and move efficiently as you bridge to beat them to the "punch". Its better to have both. Be the unstoppable force and the immovable object at the same time.

In my youth, I practiced karate and all those katas (prearranged drills). Now I'm nearing 80 and ask this question - have ANY of you ever seen a street fighting situation where you could apply these drills? I'm sorry but they only work in the movies where all those maneuvers are pre-arranged, too. In the fury of a street fight, all hell is coming at you with blinding speed. Guys are throwing punches, kicks, spitting at you and trying to poke your eyes out. Take a tip from boxers - learn to block as boxers block and slip punches/kicks and learn footwork. Yes, there is footwork in boxing. Ask Mike Tyson - he was a master and has some videos on RU-vid. Take a lesson from Muay Thai. They don't use all those rigid blocks and maneuvers. The quickest way to stop a fight is to hurt your opponent. If you fight defensively then you will be hurt.

Hey adam how relaxed should i be when training, as in should there be any tension in my arms or muscles or should i be completely relaxed, and should this differ for different techniques e.g. blocking a swing with biu sau or tan sau or blocking a low strike with gan sau, also, should i use my structural muscles e.g. latts, thighs, abs etc Last thing, Should the relaxation differ in a real life situation. This question is strictly based on physical and not mental relaxation, thanks

And one more thing, Adam. You should NEVER, EVER completely straighten out the arm! You are breaking the triangle (one of the major concepts of the ten concepts), which may cause you to overextend your arm, injuring your elbow, or you may overextend your body, throwing off your balance onto the front leg, which would make it easy for someone to grab your arm and pull you forward, off balance. You can get more power by leaving in the triangle and concentrating on form and relaxation.

And exactly WHY DO YOU NEED TO? If you know the ENTIRE TRADITIONAL SYSTEM, there is no need to turn off your structure, which causes you to lose balance, over compensate, and possibly cause openings in your system! And explain to me WHY, you need to do this against a faster opponent when it is absolutely NOT NECESSARY??? So YOU are saying that being sloppy in your techniques, your stance, your footwork, in everything you do is better?? Wing chun is a totally conceptual system that runs SOLELY on ten concepts! Of course, that is only in the COMPLETE TRADITIONAL SYSTEM and not the modified you teach! Sorry, I have to totally disagree! If anything, in wing chun, it's more important than any other system BECAUSE of the use of the concepts! There are specific guidelines (the ten concepts) that must be followed for the system to work at maximum effectiveness and efficiency! And they must be closely follow the ten concepts and use them all at once for the system to be totally effective! Even taking out ONE concept (such as the triangle), weakens the structure, weakening the stance, the techniques and the ability to stop the attack, the footwork, and the ability to produce power! It is as if you have an engine with a missing piston, that might make the car run poorly, or not at all! This is how integral the need for a strong and proper structure is and why it should be maintained ALWAYS!

Because its literally useless now and any change is better than nothing. It doesnt weaken the structure, its already weak as shit.
@mightymeatmonsta
@mightymeatmonsta 4 года назад
@@chrischanshihyung3155 And you don't know what the fuck you are talking about!!! Do you know ANYTHING about wing chun? The structure is the most important part of wing chun. It is were the power is generated from, how you move in quickly and are able to move to the side quickly, and gives the techniques it strength to absorb the attack before entering in. Our structure is stronger than all others because of the use of the triangle! It concentrates power at the tip (as in the punch), and allows us to absorb the attack because the energy goes down the tip and to the base (the ground), which allows us to keep our structure intact. It is the strongest structure on earth, as seen by the pyramids, which are thousands of years old!!
@siwal69

Wtf why are trying to compare it with sanda Wing chun is never meant to be a competitive sport It's a self defence system
@mightymeatmonsta

@@Wingzero90939 THAT'S BECAUSE WING CHUN IS USED FOR SELF DEFENSE, NOT FAKE FIGHTING!! NO, BECAUSE EACH COUNTRY HAS ITS OWN SYSTEM, WHICH IS NOT AS GOOD AS TRADITIONAL WING CHUN!
