Thank you! For me, the best ending ever. From him in the Police car, tripping in LSD to his brother, alone. Then you realice that after all, after al the bad things his brother made him do, he wasnt ever alone; he had a friend. A film for brother's love and support. Love you my brother!

Though I think it's really important that the second she asks "if you haven't gotten along with family members", he crosses the room, FINALLY acknowledging how he'd been manipulated and used, and the credits roll, signalling the "end" of the story where he finally comes to self-awareness. Fantastic.

@@deejaytee Nice!! But before she tells them that they can lie. And, what if its about her grandmother who he doesnt get along with? I think that you are correct hahah but its a perfect open ending, that you'd never know.

@@Sergio-oe2ix You're absolutely right, and the ambiguity of this scene (especially in context of the film as a whole) is so fantastically evoked. It's why it's easily one of my favourite film endings of all time.

I'm really confused if this is supposed to be the good or the bad ending, Can anyone explain? to me when i first watched it i thought it was a bad ending because it looked like he didn't feel like he belonged there, but now i think it's a good ending for him because he's where he's supposed to be and away from his bad manipulative family.

Connie was manipulative. He used Nick for his own personal gain and caused the issue that the film addressed which was getting Nick out of Jail. It’s only a bad ending if you’re looking at it from Connies point of view however it’s sad that Nick never got the love he deserved and was only being used by those around him

it doesn't always have to be good or bad, sometimes it just is.
@deejaytee
@deejaytee 2 года назад
It's neither. It's the "real" ending. And that's not necessarily bad, I think it's optimistic in that it shows him finally making progress, but contextualizing that progress in Connie having to go to jail, him only finding it in a low-budget government program and so on. It's a "good ending in a real-world context" and that's why I love it so much. It's optimism in a realistic world.

I love how ambiguous the whole film is, the ending is so bittersweet and interpretable like the whole movie has been. it all depends on your perspective and world view

the sort of hood looking guy at 6:47 with the headphones who crosses the room with a bit of swagger adds a shit ton of emotional depth to this scene imo, and it pans to an overweight balding white guy once he crosses. it shows that anyone of any race/background can have mental problems, difficulties, disablities, trauma, whatever. we're all just human at the end of the day.

I found the end very sad. Nick lost the love of his brother and the stimulation from normal people. The basic/nonpersonal program he is in now, will just entertain himself but not makes him grow. Even if Connie is douch, he loves his brother and when they are together, it's a "good time" an « alive » time. Drugs at the end might close the true life they had (Program =sedated drug for Nick). I also love the way that Connie is explicitly nice towards dogs. Anyways now Nick is having a "simpler time" but not a "good time" anymore and it makes me sad. Lovely film tho
@deejaytee
@deejaytee 2 года назад
Absolutely disagreed. The film specifically starts the credits the second she asks if anyone has had trouble with their family, and Nick crosses, clearly showing that Nick is finally realizing that Connie (even if well-intentioned) was manipulating him.
