J.J. (Jimmie Walker) comes home one day without realizing that a young girl (Janet Jackson) he met on the bus has followed him home and is looking for a safe place to stay at.
From Season 5, Episode 1 'The Evans Get Involved: Part 1': A new neighbor girl, 10-year-old Penny Gordon, becomes friends with Willona and the Evans family. Later, they discover a horrifying secret - that Penny is viciously abused by her mother.
