That’s true, these days all it takes is for one person to get food poisoning from a grocery store or restaurant that serves spoiled food to file a complaint and get the place investigated by the health department. This grocer in this episode acted like he thought his customers were stupid and would not notice that he was selling food that was past its sell-by date.

Definitely! I’m sure Florida was not the only person who got sick from their products. The manager acted like kind of a sleazy guy who didn’t care how many customers got sick as long as he made a fast buck.

As the character, Florida Evans, I think she always stood up for what she believed in, and for protecting vulnerable people from exploitation.

This is what I like about Florida Evans, she knows how to make a point stick, and wasn’t about to accept any run-around!

I don’t know why the store manager would want to poison his own people, though. You’d think he’d know that if a lot of his customers got food poisoning that it would be bad for his reputation and for his business. You can cut corners just to save a buck, but if people get sick due to your cheapness, people are going to complain.

The sad thing is that stuff like this was actually happening all across Black America at the time. It was no uncommon thing for me as a child to walk into our neighborhood supermarket and smell the lingering stench of outdated meat still for sale. 🥓🥩🍗🍖

@@docdee770that is sad! How could the managers think that people would not smell that there was a problem?

@@nancyhey1012 These markets we're in the in the ghetto or slums, and so they thought we weren't worthy of top-notch quality service. We can shut a business down with complaints today. The media will eat it up.

@@docdee770 they still must have thought their customers were pretty stupid if they though that they couldn’t smell something that was rotten! I’m glad to know they can’t get away with it today, though.
