That he was for sure. The thing that I like about James Evans was the fact that he was not his children's friend, he was their parent. Those kids knew good and well that as long as they were under his roof, they had to respect him and Florida and obey the rules. The Evans household was not a democracy, rather it was a benevolent dictatorship. Whatever James Evans said, it went.
AMEN! well said, all these damn protestors, BLM anarchists, they should've gotten a whipping like James Evans did to his kids. Today parents fear being parents like James Sr. and then people be out there protesting when i.e. Laquan McDonald, Michael Brown or Breonna Taylor get killed by the police.
James Evans James brown and Joe Jackson those fathers don't play around they are old school they beat you with anything on sight shoes brooms hands mops ext.

Eva you're right. love the old school "real" parenting. today, not so much. James was like my dad, and we were whoop too at times, so what. we needed it here in the hood of PHILLY, outside of nj." we needed it. james was the best.never will b another like him."
real talk. bad asses i was 80s born. older sisters 70s. lil brother 1989. Bottom line? JAMES is not abusive @ all. But, fools think that, some do now a days, and its not. my dad was 100% same way. no regret being raised with dad still married to mom 50yrs.strong. real love, since they were 19 or 21. But, the discipline is needed, bad kids today, run to call f-ked up agency dcf.smh Great show, never sick of even watchin good times, better than today's corny ass fake ass "reality shit."
:27: :35 EDDIE laffin lol way too hilarious and so realistic, each second. love also @:43... and i agree stone. and xavier, great post, you're so right, xavi..."blk and hispanic brown houses know this is real."

Thank god for Esther Rolle. Bless her heart. They originally did not want to do this show without a black father. They told her she would be the star of her own show originally called "The Black Family." She told them she refuse to do a show without a strong black male father. She fought and won and because of her we got the best tv dad who layed the groundwork for African Americans tv dads that came afterward
He was a happy married man who did not tolerate bull crap and he walked the line with every other child in his apartment . No one tried this man because he WAS THE MAN with a plan.
You young folk got it good. When this episode came out circa 75, I was a yougin myself. If you nissed that onetime broadcast, that was it. You missed it. Now 45 years later there's RU-vid❤
yep. but the entire epie is classic, yet i can watch today and do, on TV ONE BLK NETWORK, its on now and i never get sick of it. peace. #BESTTVFather-JamesEvan this is not abuse as some fools call it. GREAT FATHER just like mine. peace.
One of the Greatest men, Gentlemen shown on tv One of the Greatest, Very Greatest Father figures in tv History would definitely LOVE to meet Mr. John Amos, aka Mr. James Evans, Senior Father, ... Extraordinaire ....
In my political correct voice "Well... you know..... that would be considered child abuse." I'm so thankful for growing up in a time when discipline was enforced with care and love.
@@A_Muzik Also Dan Connor on Roseanne. I don't think he belted his kids, but when he laid down the law, that was it. And heaven help anyone who hurt his family.
@@A_Muzik bible says spear the rod spoil the child thats why this generation youth is so lost and dying like flies at young ages and out of control no respect for elders cause of no discipline dont use dan conner kids that whole family was messed up this kids today need there ass whipped they are out of control
14DaveHunter Eddie: did that make you feel good? James: It didn’t make me feel bad. I held back on you Eddie: If that’s holding back, I’d hate to be around when you let go
He was also on an episode of What's Happening. He was running against Dwayne for student body president. At the end of the episode, Dwayne dropped out of the race, knowing that the only reason that students were voting for him because he was popular and not really qualified.
Not really. Michael had talked him down from that. It's just the fact that when you are under someone else's roof, you play by their rules. When James Evans says, "Do Your Homework," you'd better have your head in your books.
That's not why he whipped him, he whipped him for not studying and being disrespectful. Eddie believe he could do what he wanted when he wanted and that's why he got his behind toasted. If you watch the whole show, you will see, that Florida said" You know how your father feels about studying." That's because James had to quite school in the 6 grade to go to work and provide for the family.
I used to get the belt whether l needed it or not. My father was brutal. That's why l always hated old school parenting. I still do. My dad turned me against elder respect as well. I never understood why it was important to respect your elders while they could treat you like shit.
That is terrible ☹️. I got whoppings for getting out of line but I knew my mom loved me so much. She use to say what they will do out in the street to u is worst then this.
I’m sorry you went through that. I hate how these people are rooting for James and how this show is glorifying abuse. People claim it shows discipline, no it doesn’t. A lot of these kids end up really messed up and in jail or worse.
@@unknownstranger6875 I have to disagree. This is what many of those brats need today. My folks took the belt to me when I was out of line. But I know that it wasn't done out of abusing me. It was done to teach me right from wrong and that when I done something wrong, that actions do have consequences. It seems like many of you is for that B.S. type of parenting by Dr. Benjamin Spock. Coddle and spoil the child, no discipline. When you bring your kids up like that, they usually grow up to be criminals.
1: He let him stay in his house after bullying his son 2:He was disrespectful by putting his foot on the coffee table. 3: He just filled his gut with the man's groceries and thought he wasn't gonna do no homework and disobey!? That boy needed that butt tore up...he asked for it!!
nah way shorter lol and prince rip was short. YNOT, JUST THE HAIR, long, shoulder neck length wild a lil the hair length. but, ed real real short, at the age he was. and eddie, clearly deserve this. he got his ass whooped. NOT abuse as some fools call it.. Peace.
xavi. i agree handsome .. yep.icam. :35 EDDIE laffin lol way too hilarious and so realistic, each second. love also @:43. blk and hispanic brown houses know this is real."
"You ever heard of extended family? Well, this weekend you're apart of one which gives me the right to extend this belt to your behind if I feel I have to. " " Anything to oblige a guest, mister. Get your behind in here! " LOL. James reminds me of my father. He never played around when it came to our education . He'd whoop our asses if we didn't do it. Real talk tho y'all . Stay in school, kids. Get the knowledge in order to get over the obstacles that will come in your way. That's keeping it 100.
One of the biggest travesties was when the production team decided to ax John Amos. Before that, they were trying to tamp down the character to make it more ‘real.’ The James Evens character had become America’s dad. America loves a fighter, and that’s who James Evens was... the show what never the same after they killed the character.
I'd wished James Evans was there when Michael was involved in a gang called The Junior Warlords he'll beat him out of it and make him face those young hoodlums and fight them and James will follow along
James wiped that arrogant smirk off Eddie's face. Yet, you also have to feel for Eddie that he didn't have his own parents to guide and love him. James really shouldn't have had to be the one to mete out the punishment.
After the whoopin Eddie: did that make you feel good? James: didn’t make me feel bad, and I held back on you Eddie: if that’s holding back I’d hate to be around when you let go
I remember that I had a teacher that paddled real hard. Very hard. It would hurt like hell. However, I would never cry about it. The other kids in class would bawl like a baby after she was through with them, but not me. I would walk back in class and sit down, even though it hurt like fuck.
Awe man I got beat with a belt. I was more scared when dad would say , what are you crying about!? I’ll give you something to cry about. !!!! I caught my dad crying too. 😌
That's not right. Political correctness needs to be abolished. There is a fine line between discipline and child abuse, and each time these jokers accuse these parents (who mean well) for administering a harsh punishment on these little punks for being not only disrespectful but menacing they step over that line. No parent should have to serve prison time for spanking their children out of discipline, that's completely illogical. I know it may not set other kids straight, but more often than not it works. Growing up disciplined means these kids are less likely to have rap sheets.
