Hello and welcome to another Movie reaction video!
Hope you are all doing well!
It was really nice to watch such a well written and constructed film. This was a good one to get back into the swing of things and has my inspired to get writing in my own work too.
Hope you appreciate the reaction and Patrons we can talk more about it in the discord!

Also touch of trivia, Robin Williams' story about his wife farting wasn't scripted, that's why Damon's laugh seems so genuine, cause it is :)
@jayzhead
@jayzhead 2 года назад
Not only that, but you can also clearly see the camera that's on Matt's face shake during that shot, that's because the cameraman had a hard time keeping it together as well.

Matt Damon and Minnie Driver were dating when they filmed this. Her performance earned her an Oscar nomination. Damon & Affleck won the Oscar for the screenplay and Williams for Best Supporting Actor.

My favourite bit in the film is the ad-lib story of the gassy wife, and the natural laughter that erupted therefrom. Robin Williams was a genius, and is sorely missed...

Good to see you back! I like your very relaxed style. I think that Stellan always give a very credible performance! Nice comment that it must be insane to watch Robin Williams deliver lines you've written. The script IS amazing!

For me, Good Will Huntings themes of power, intelligence, unfailing friendship, love, strength, pain and risk make it a great film. I break down in tears right along with Matt Damon each time I watch the scene where Robin Williams keeps telling him that it’s not his fault. The wounded must silently endure their agony until someone can convince them that there’s a reason to trust.

I've spent the last hour trying to figure out a movie to watch, nothing sounded good, so I go on youtube and here you are, perfect timing, so excited to see your reaction to this. Robin Williams will always have a special place in my heart

I thoroughly enjoy this film. The script is “layered” as you said and was well executed by the actors. The theme of taking action and making decisions for yourself instead of being complacent. Making the choices you want to make and not what you believe others expect of you. The importance of taking chances and not being paralyzed by fear of regret. Life is meant to be experienced and how those experiences can teach us more than what we could read in books. Loved it. Great reaction as always. 👍🏽♥️

Even though Gus Van Sant was nominated for Best Director in the Oscar category for this, I feel it is his most "family-friendly" effort. You're right in that the movie thrives on the script and performances. My favorite Van Sant films (which I think allow him to leave his thumbprint) are "My Own Private Idaho", "To Die For", "Last Days", "Elephant", and "Milk". (If you have time please check them out). Fantastic reaction! You are very insightful, and I wish you well in your filmmaking career.

Really nice observations on some of the camerawork. Good to see you back reacting to films. Good Will Hunting came out when I was 22, I believe, and it impressed me from the get-go. I always wish Minnie Driver would’ve better fulfilled the promise she showed in the 90s.

Ryan, I've really liked your inciteful reactions. You invited our active participation, so I'll tell you a little story about the movie, one that isn't obvious...a story that illustrates that Damon and Aflack are willing to insert elements that probably won't be spotted. At the beginning when they're auditioning therapists, Will is lying on the couch with his eyes closed, pretending to be hypnotized. Suddenly he starts singing "skyrockets in flight, afternoon delight." He opens his eyes and says "I don't need therapy!" At the end, as he's driving toward California, the credits are rolling and music is playing. The very last song was written and performed in 1976 by a group called The Starland Vocal Band. The song ends "Skyrockets in flight, afternoon delight, Ohhhhhhh afternoon delight!"

Another great reaction. I’m sure that it’s been mentioned, but they won the Oscar for their screenplay. Some other factoids...Minnie & Matt had a genuine chemistry that lasted for a while after the film came out, but ended acrimoniously. Also, Ben’s little brother is actually his little brother, Casey Affleck 😉 Also, the song won the Oscar. A great composer who died too young. The entire soundtrack is one of my favorites 🖤🌹🖤🧛🏻‍♀️

This movie got me into him. I was in the Air Force at the time I went to the film. I bought the CD of the soundtrack because I liked it so much, just as a generic thing. I was listening to it a LOT before I realized that there were several songs on there that I absolutely loved, and they sounded like the same person. I finally checked the track listing and discovered they were all by Elliott Smith. Became an absolute fan after that. Saw him 4 times in San Francisco before he died.

This is such a great film, top to bottom, incredible script, amazing cast with wonderful performances by all; but it must be said despite not appearing for the first half of the film Robbin Williams gives an absolute legendary performance. Another Gus Van Sant film you should react to is Finding Forrester, which was his follow up to Good Will Hunting and co-stars Sir Sean Connery in his second to last film. Connery gives an excellent performance, as does the rest of the cast.

Gus Van Sant also directed the 1998 remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, I think it’s a smart, true to the script effort to pay homage and bring new eyes to the original B/W classic. I would also suggest watching “78/52” a documentary about how filming Psycho was groundbreaking and rightfully iconic… 78 setups and 52 cuts 🔪🛁 ☠️

I loathed Van Sant’s remake of Psycho. It demonstrated such a fundamental misunderstanding of the original’s insight as to beggar belief.

At the time there were rumors that Kevin Smith and William Goldman did uncredited rewrites of the script. Both of them have denied that. Years later Goldman said that he indeed was involved, but all he did was suggest that a certain subplot needed to be removed.

If I had to pick something to gripe about: Skylar's character was a little too perfect for Will. She's smart, fun, rich, gets along with his friends, tells dirty jokes, doesn't get mad when he doesn't call, doesn't get mad when she figures out he'd been lying to her, after he tells her he doesn't love her, she gives him another chance and repeasts that she loves him, after being again she'd still hoping he'll turn up at the airport. She'd kind of a doormat. As a viewer I think she could do better.
