Hey!
This instantly became one of my favourite movies. I love Vinny and Lisa's relationship and the pacing of this film really made it an enjoyable watch.
Hope you're all doing well and you enjoy the reaction.
Cheers
Ryan

The actor who played the judge was the lead in an old TV show called “The Munsters”. His character was made to look like Frankenstein’s monster.

I remember actor Fred Gwynne as "Officer Francis Muldoon" of "Car 54 Where Are You?" (1961-1963) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lnLD7MnVvxA.html

In my college years in California I had 3 roommates from the South and 2 from New York, one from England (next door apt guy from UK too) as well as a girl friend from Texas. They were always getting confused on each others speech, idioms, slang and down home sayings.

Nice surprise to see you doing more reactions. And it’s always fun to see this classic. Especially Marisa Tomei, who won the Academy Award for best supporting actress for her role as Lisa.

A few years ago, my mom took a course on the the Constitution at the local community center. She couldn't help asking the teacher, a retired judge, what he thought of this film. His face lit up, and he said he loved it, and that most judges and lawyers do, as much for its accuracy as for its humor. Director Jonathan Lynn (who co-created and co-wrote Yes Minister and Yes, Prime Minister for the BBC) has an MA in Law from Cambridge and wanted the courtroom scenes to be entirely accurate, with some room for artistic license. Marisa Tomei won the Academy Award for Best Actress this film. For years, some people repeated the nasty rumour that presenter Jack Palance had read the wrong name, but he didn't: she was deserving and she really won it. Fred Gwynne, who played Judge Haller, famously played Herman Munster in the 1960's TV series The Munsters. He was born in New York City (Joe Pesci is actually from Newark, NJ) but spent a lot of his childhood in the south due to his father's travels, which might explain the ease with which he adopts a southern accent here. My Cousin Vinnie was Fred's final film. This was also the final film of Paulene Myers (Mrs. Constance Riley, she of the thick glasses). Almost 20 years earlier, Paulene had a small role in a film called The Sting which won the Academy Award for Best Picture. Highly, highly recommended, especially if you enjoy heist films, and it has a wonderful and nostalgic score which won another Academy Award (to say nothing of five other Academy Award wins and three other nominations).

"My Cousin Vinny": New York Yankees find themselves living in the South, where they are "fish out of water." This legal comedy/drama puts us in the courtroom with ordinary and expert witnesses. Grits, eyeglasses, a can of Tuna, and tire tracks feature prominently in this movie. Remember: Always let your lawyer or Solicitor do the talking!;)

A really great movie . It is not just a comedy I heard this movie is legally accurate lawyers learn from it. Other great legal dramas are The Rainmaker, A Civil Action, Erin Burchvich, Murder At First,The Nurmberg trail. The part that always kills me is the public defender who looks so perfect and than he is completely useless where he cant speak at court.

Welcome back, Ryan... good movie to ease back in with. The owl is one of my favorite gags... never fails to break me, even tho I've seen this dozens of times. If you rewatch it, check out the actors in the background when the public defender gives his opening statement. One of the bailiffs loses it, and "Stan" has to turn his back to the cam at one point 😀

I love this movie. There's no real bad guy in this movie (except if you consider the real murderers) and once the innocence of Bill and Stan becomes clear, all charges are dropped. Most law enforcement and prosecutors are not corrupt. Fun Fact: When Vinny is trying to explain his "real name" to Judge Haller, he knocks over the judge's chess board. This was accidental but director Jonathan Lynn thought it was so funny and authentic he decided to leave it in the film. Two Youths Fact: The misunderstanding between Vincent Gambini and Judge Haller regarding the two "youts" was in fact a real conversation between Joe Pesci and director Jonathan Lynn. Lynn, who is British, at first had a hard time understanding Pesci's pronounced New York accent. He decided that the routine was quite funny and put it in the film. True Crime Fact: Director Jonathan Lynn actually has a law degree and insisted the film's legal proceedings be realistic. In fact, many attorneys and law professors have praised the film for its accurate depiction of trial strategy and courtroom procedure, especially with regards to presenting expert witnesses at trial. In fact, the film has been screened at some law schools to illustrate courtroom procedures.

"Most law enforcement and prosecutors are not corrupt." Depends on your definition of corrupt. An honest prosecutor would have dismissed the charges the moment their eyewitness evidence fell apart. The fact they didn't means they don't care what's true, just gambling on what they can get away with.

Man I'm really happy to see you did this movie, it was always a favorite of mine growing up. It's always remained in a classification of movies that if I'm flicking through the channels and it's on, I'll keep it. The only level of classification above it is the " I'm supposed to leave In 5 minuts but I'm willing to be late, I just wanna see a few scenes" movies in this top tier obviously godfather, Shawshank, Goodfellas, Jurassic park, good will hunting, Forrest Gump. Ect.

PS Hey, Ryan - This led me to your list of films you'd reacted to. I rewatched AWAKENINGS, a favorite of mine, and i wondered whether you had seen RAIN MAN (1988) Dustin Hoffman, Tom Cruise I didn't see it in your catalog, so i'm supposing that either you have already seen it and didn't want to rereact, or else it simply had gotten past you somehow. If, the latter, i would recommend you see it and ask that you'd share your reaction with us. It is a wonderfully wonderous film and one i'm certain you'll not want to have missed. Peace -

The actor with the speech impediment is also in the farce comedy What’s Up Doc with Barbra Streisand and Ryan O’Neal. Hilarious! Joe Pesci did the knocking over the chess pieces by accident. I’d also review the 1970s screwball comedy Foul Play with Chevy Chase and Oscar winner Goldie Hawn and sex comedy Porky’s from the 1980’s set in the 1950s.

Im about to watch your reaction and I'm not exactly sure how youre gonna feel about it. You appreciate story (shiindlers list+ goodwill hunting) but you also appreciate cinematic experience ( Forrest Gump+ saving Private Ryan) this has neither lol. But I have a feeling you might connect with the heart of this movie. If you can see past the silliness it's really is a touching story. Two young guys traveling are wrongfully convicted of murder in small town America. Unable to afford an attorney they settle for a family lawyer from new York who travels to the south and despite being a fish out of water and constantly stumbling along the way he finds a way to win the case, freeing the two men and earning the respect of he judge, prosecutor, sherriffe and most importantly the woman he loves. Not only is it a good story but it manages to portray both Italian Americans from the northeast and small town southern folk as caricatures of themselves , leaning heavily on stereotypes, but somehow not come off as belittling, demeaning, insulting, and disrespectful two both. Yes Vinny and Mona Lisa are fish out of water, but they aren't bofunes. They point out the absurdities but they don't mock. The southerners know they do things a little different, a little slower, a little less flashy, but they aren't backwards, they aren't corrupt, they aren't trying to knowingly wrongfully convict the two young men, there isn't any shady dealings or corrupt ploys by the sheriff and prosecutor. When people are prove wrong they are able to self reflect and take criticism. I think the movie strikes a great balance that way. It's not easy when writing a fish out of water story to avoid going for the cheap laugh. Making either the fish or the water into a cartoonist joke is a lazy way to do that. But to write a fight out of water where both sides are respected and the story is original and also has a lot of heart and memorable dialogue as well. That's really something. Most people in the states will immediately recognize a few quotables from this movie. "The two yoots" "Are you sure about that 5 minuts?" "You put ya little deer lips to get drink of water and BAM!" "you were serious about that?" "Are you guys aware of the ongoing cholesterol problem in this country" If I can please recommend a few great movies that I don't see any other RU-vidrs react to and some that alot have. 1) a Bronx tale 2) blow 3) the hurricane (denzels best performance) 4) casino 5) boondock saints 6) mallrats 7) dazed and confused 8) the wolf of wall street 9) 51st dates 10) the town 11) sunshine 12) the Bourne identity 13) remember the Titans. Thanks man look forward to whatever comes next keep up the great work. Cheers 1)
