Bought this for my 1992 geo metro and all I can say is wow. At first I couldn’t tell if it was working, but after all these years I can definitely tell, my hair is thicker. And the mrs is pleased.
Been fighting cancer since 2019 finally in the clear and in remission, didn't have the $200 extra to buy this now my 16 Denali is back in the shop with crapped out lifters after a new transmission in not even a month 🤦♂️. Hopefully this helps man great video and thank you for pointing us in the right direction.
I have a 2018 Sierra and installed the same disabler. Works great and I’ve enjoyed it. Better throttle response and the transmission seems to shift better. Well worth the money!
I get my truck serviced at the dealer, so I always unplug it before turning the truck in. I’ve noticed at my dealer they always look under the steering wheel. I just don’t want them having a record of it in case I bring it for a bigger problem other than normal maintenance.
Just got it for my 2019, I also have a full 3" cat-back. It changed my truck completely. The AFM in the newer 19-20 trucks are more enhanced than previous years. I've owned 2011 prior to and the 2019 is way worse when the AFM is enabled. Fuel mileage definitely decreased with the disabler but.. engine longevity is the most important! I highly recommend the module. Great video by the way
I got one for my '15 when I bought it in 2018...just upgraded to an '18 a month and a half ago. The same module for the '15 works for my '18 now...like you, it was the first thing I bought. I've only taken it out of the OBD2 port a handful of times...never had any issues. Such an awesome product! 🤘🏻
I recently bought a 2018 silverado lt 5.3 with the afm. Absolutely hated it right off the hop. Tint and the range were my first purchases. Im doing 13.3l/100km with the range. Great investment!!
@@IvanRamirez-fs3sf I do , but as soon as you get it delete the vacuum pump and disable the aFM. Also , immediately service the rear differential and get a transmission servicing. People neglect these things , then you inherit the problems.
I have this on my 2012. I was worried about mpg. I get the exact mileage with or without. Stupid computer was back and forth V8/V4 even while pulling my 5000lb trailer. No more issues. I like it and totally recommend 🤷🏻♂️👍
I've had mine in for 3 years now (or 40000 miles). 07 Silverado. Works great no issues. I've seen lots of videos where people say you have to unplug it but my light on the device shuts on and off with the truck. Never been unplugged.
I bought a 2016 back in January had 70k miles. I also bought the extended warranty. After about a month I bought the range device. Around 76K miles lifter went out damaged camshaft. Warranty company replaced motor total cost was around 12k bucks all I paid was 50 dollar deductible. Now new engine and soon as dealer brought me my truck I plugged by range back up. I don’t know who had truck before me and they more than likely let it go into V4 mode all the time.
Ive had mine for a couple years, probably 20k+ miles. No problems at all and definitely does drive better. I do unplug it when my truck will be sitting for awhile.
I’m about to go to back to Texas from North Dakota working/visiting and I was looking into this do you think it’ll do great for the 22hr drive 😅 and a aftermarket intake
@@michaelg6043 It came with a blue light that stays on constantly. Probably not enough to drain a battery but its just insurance. Up to 3yrs now, plugging/unplugging not a single problem
@@Lracer61 thanks for answering those questions man. Really appreciate you keeping up with it. Helped me decide on getting it or not. I work offshore so the truck sits for weeks at a time and I was worried unplugging and plugging would ruin something.
I’ve had my range on my Silverado since 2014, still using with no issues. I can count maybe twice a check engine light has come on and I’ve done the range hot reset and no issues. I’ve driven the truck more than 100k and its been a good product to me.
Put it on my 2020 Silverado, massive difference, no hesitating, no clunks, no shudder, plug in and forget. Probably lost about 4 mpg but I'll take it. The 8 speed actually shifts silky smooth now.
The wife's 2015 Sierra 6.2 had issues with collapsed lifters at 37,000 miles caused by the AFM, luckily it didn't damage the camshaft. In the shop for 10 days, all the lifters replaced, valley pan and pump replaced, all covered under the powertrain warranty. Soon as I got it home I ordered a range afm module for it and my 2018 5.3. Trust me you won't miss the cash one of these costs because if you are out of warranty and that AFM crap trashes your motor it will bump your wallet a minimum of $3K for shop repair.
I have one as well works great. Only thing I didn’t know was when I went to get inspected it had codes stored in pcm so truck wouldn’t pass inspection. No engine light were on at all. The guy told me to drive it for 20 miles came back passed flawlessly. So I learned to take it out day before getting it inspected. Other wise great product.
Bought mine 3 years ago for my 2016 Chevy Tahoe 5.3L, and 45K miles later, she is still running. I had a 2015 Tahoe, and the lifters failed, but I was lucky enough to purchase an extended warranty that saved my Azz.
I love it bro I’ll buy my like 2 months and no issues My truck very smooth now no oil consumption more power now never drain my battery always plug in 👍🏻 Very useful video bro thanks !!!
Tytytyty Tytytyty Tytytyty i just bought 2008 silverado and i thought i was going crazy i thought the tranny was going out my hubby said i was crazy! I almost started crying watching this cuz i was so happy! U saved my sanity
Nice video, thats a great little box. My buddy lost oil pressure on his Sierra 60000miles. Got the delete kit and took it completely off his engine with all new internals, gaskets ect. Well worth the $1000 for parts.
@@joseflores-db2lu with COVID I work from home so I don't drive much. Sometimes my truck sits for over a week and it starts right up. The battery will discharge normally, but the range does not make it discharge any quicker; at least in my truck.
I have had mine for about 3 yrs. I bought it for my 2012 than I traded the truck in for a 2019 gmc. The range still works in that truck. I have never had 1 issue. Even if it quit I would buy another one. In my 2012 the truck used about a quart in BTW oil changes. After I started using the range it never used oil again.
I have a 2018 Silverado with 9200 miles on it, I just ordered the range disabler can't wait to install it. Now my truck will stay in V8 like it was intended to, thanks for your comments.
I’ve had one on my 2011 Sierra now for 1500 miles of mixed driving. My mpg average has gone from 13.5 to 14.6. I no longer feel that sluggish lag when it’s going from 4 to 8 and overall performs better, I wish I had the first 80,000 miles I put on the truck.
wow, i have the 2018 work truck v6, this one is 18.1 average, I am wondering what this could do for me? something to think about. I drive a lot. I here because i am wanting to know more about this V4 thing i really never notice it. heavy foot. but with gas price going up, I started to pay attention to keeping it relaxed. then i felt my Truck sputter, I thought something was wrong. But then seen the V4. outside of that, I was 16.8 then after paying attention to how I drive, I notice I was getting better mileage. So I went on learning about fuel efficiency, with tire pressure, fuels oil changes and just about everything you can think of. I also carry a large payload in the back most times generator tools ladder rack wood. stuff. anyways I'm high and i had an early day so I'm online searching for stuff. lol
Got one on my 2016 Silverado. Love it. No issues at all. Truck runs the way it should. Heres my take on the fuel management. If fuel mileage is that important to you. Then you made a poor decision in vehicle choice. You should have got a Toyota piss. Lol. Stop letting California talk you into stupid shit GM.
I have a 2015 with the 5.3l and at 47k had the collapsed lifter in cylinder 7 caused by the faulty arm lifters they were using. Got ahold of the range disabler after that and it have been great no problems. Truck sits for a month or 2 at a time battery stays charged.
I've been a fence sitter on this for awhile, but last week I bit the bullet and bought one of these modules directly from Range. The final factor in my decision was an answer on their website about draining batteries. These things wouldn't be much good if they did drain batteries. I've got my module plugged in to my '13 Silverado and I intend to leave it there. Truck runs so much better now.
The main thing I want this for is not for sound but for longevity. I don’t feel like having to put a new valve train and cam when it drops a lifter because it lost oil pressure
I got my Range last week for my Corvette and it’s awesome!! Awoke that engine up in automatic. Drives so much better and my exhaust is even better. Do I like getting good gas mileage, yes but, I bought a Corvette for the fun and awesome power!!!
I've been using it in my 240k suburban for 3 weeks . I first noticed the improved throttle response . It leads me to believe that the truck may even be in V4 sometimes when it's not displayed on the dash . Better shifting, and the transmission seem to kick down less when accelerating at high speeds. Also ,before I was getting rough idling on cold starts which would last for the first 30 Mins of driving and now it's gone . I don't know if that has anything to do with the range , but my guess is that some of that carbon build up in those unused cylinders may be burning away? 🤷🏾♂️ Update: the range definitely smoothed things out , however I believe the damage was already done . I got a severe misfire, knocking/cylinder failure . I ended up replacing the motor with a used one with 68k . The mechanic put some garbage cam2 brand oil in there and I didn't really like the way the engine ran so I gave royal purple a try and I definitely saw an improvement. New motor seems to be running strong with royal purple and the range 🤞🏽
I've been having the same issue! But now I have a massive puff of smoke out the exhaust on a cold start and shudder to possible stalling. I'm not about to replace lifters so I'm hoping this works for me! 🤞
I bought my truck with 93k miles got the Range v4 dissabler the same week. About 100 miles later it dropped a lifter on cylinder 7. I unplugged the range, to it to the dealership and got it fixed under warranty. Then plugged it back in before leaving the dealership. Now about 2500 miles later the torque converter/trans took a dump...no more warrenty lol
Got mine for my '07 Avalanche with 200,000mi. Does say not to use it if there are valve train issues. I have no abnormal lifter and valve noises so we'll see. I absolutely love that the power is there and there is no more v4 crap. I didn't buy my 5.3 Chevy for fuel economy....
Got mine today this video pushed me to get it, I drove around for 4hrs today and not once did my truck want to kick into V4 mode as I was driving.. I also noticed better shifting from my transmission and a better idol at a full stop, also no more bang from the transmission when slowing down to an almost full stop and then giving it gas when the V8 kicks in. I am very happy with it so far I like the fact it is a full V8 now and have the power on demand, it's well worth the money..
So far so good.. the only issue I've had was I let my truck sit for like 4 days with it still plugged in and when I went to start my truck it wouldn't turnover so, I unplugged it and my truck started right up turned off my truck and plugged it back in it's running fine..
Great video I totally agree. Love having AV8 truck instead of one that doesn't know which gear To be in or which cylinders to fire on. My opinion it is well worth the $200 spent I've been told that I would lose lots of gas mileage or gain lots of gas mileage. My average is about 19 miles to the gallon give or take I Have been as high as 23 and a 1/2 miles per gallon and as low as 15 depending on how my foot lies. Thanks for the great video
I bought a used truck with 71k on the odometer. I installed the AFM disabler after a few hundred miles. At first, I didn't feel much of a change in the way the truck drove. I could tell the V4 mode was off, though. After a few more miles, I could definitely feel the difference in the throttle response and the way the transmission shifts. This device is money well spent.
I'm getting one for my 2011 avalanche to save my lifters before they go bad. AFM is known to destroy lifters on the 5.3s. Preventative measure for 200 dollars to avoid 3k repairs. I think yes You got a sick truck. Avalanche is my favorite of all time but that style of silverado are my 2nd favorite looks sick!
I mentioned on another video that I have the range in my 2018 Silverado Z71 and love it. My truck was serviced just before i installed it, haven't thrown any codes yet and thanks for the info if I need to get it updated.
I ran one in my 2015 6.2 Silverado. I bought the truck with 70k miles , ran a range tech and loved it. 117k miles cylinders 4 and 7 still failed. Doing a complete delete right now. I think the engine is basically bulletproof. These lifters will fail count on it. I have tried to educate myself about AFM , concence is a failed lifter is a symptom of a oil pressure problem. Love my truck and am looking forward to a V8. I have a 2015 2.5l Colorado, there's my 4 cylinder.
im presently rebuilding a 2018 6.2 lifter bent push rod , i have the tuner and deleting it right out .Warranty gone any ways .The disabler the way to go its just i have the 900.00 tuner .disablers are out there for 149.00 .if you dont have issues get and use the disabler specially if your towing trailers/heavy loads or one them peddle to the metal guys.
Just got mine yesterday drives like a completely different truck no more gear searching I actually enjoy driving it now and the exhaust sounds like it should gonna get the pedal commander yet and it’ll be good to go
I have a range plugged into my 15 Silverado 5.3 I actually get better gas mileage in V8 mode with the range than switching back and forth between V4 and V8.
Good video . . . I installed the Range on my 2015 Corvette. It works perfectly with no more shutter when the car is trying to decide what to do in V4 mode.
@Dan Barksey You can mod, and tune your vehicle, and still keep your warranty. Let's say something does go wrong, and you take it in for the dealership to fix it, and they see that you have headers full exhaust, tune..... whatever, and they say your warranty has been voided do to the mods, so we won't cover the cost. Wrong they have to prove without a doubt that the tune was the cause of the problem, prove that the headers/full exhaust was the cause of the problem. If they can't prove it...your warranty is still valid, and the work must be covered under the warranty. They tried that shit with a buddy of mine, and he called them out on it.. They covered all work, and his warranty was still valid.
Jordan Keith oh nice definitely a good purchase that pretty much saves the motor lol. I have almost 160k now too. And change my oil with full synthetic/k&n oil filter with a quart of Lucas every other oil change 3k miles. Bit over kill but I’m keeping mine forever
@@Josh-xj3fm Wow, someone out there just like me! I literally just got the Mobil 1 super synthetic oil with a K&N HP 1017 filter for my truck. Just bought it like two weeks ago here and Texas, and man the trucks are so clean here! I'm used to Michigan harsh winters and the after math from the salt. It's like it was stored in a barn untouched. Just crazy
Bought one few months went from 15.4mpg to 16.8mpg I would feel something kick in before I bought the range thought something was wrong with my truck ever since I contacted rage havent noticed doing that
I put this on my ‘18 Silverado and the mileage didn’t change at all. Still drives great. Next I’m taking off that vacuum pump and rerouting the brake assist vacuum to a tapped fitting I’m putting on the throttle body.
I’m in! I recently had the third cat removed (California cat) not applicable in my state when I had a FM Super 10 installed with duals on my 2016 Silverado 5.3, that v4 mode drives me crazy with the droning noise. I’m definitely getting one. Thanks man great video!
Been following this video forever and finally picked up my new to me 2015 the other day. Going to be installing this - thanks. Especially that there is a class action against GM right now for the AFM eating up the lifters in v4 mode. Now with the recall on the trans thermostat and this lawsuit against the AFM - it seems they would have been better off in the first place trying not to fix what was already fine.
just got a 15 and wondering to buy the range after watching countless of videos. would you say pull the trigger on it asap? night and day difference with no truck engine problems?
I had one in my 2014 GMC which I bought used in 2018. w/35k After purchasing I heard about the Range disabler. Bought the device and used it till few weeks ago when a traded in the GMC. Because of a bad rusted frame. Not surface rust, holes 🕳️ in the frame. Anyway that GMC burned O oil. Miles at trade in was 113k. Btw sometimes I’d run the AFM for long trips. CHANGE your oil religiously very important. JMO
Great video dude! I own a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 and after doing a fair amount of research about disabling the AFM your review had convinced me to go with the Range disabler. Can't wait to feel the results. Thank you.
I got the same Range chip for my 2014.. The only drawback, which is not a big deal, is I have to take it out and let the truck run at least 50 miles before I do my annual state inspection (Texas). If I leave it and take it out on at the time of inspection, the inspection computer will throw a "Cannot read vehicle computer" and the inspector will deny a pass.
Have mine waiting at the house 😖...out of town working 7/12s👨🏽🏭..literally bought it when I saw your video..that v4 crap is irritating...thanks for posting and keeping us in the loop with gadgets for our toys🥃
I have the Range. Yes my 5.3 is heavily modified and yes it use to make that popping noise coming out of first gear before I bought the Range. The Range device does work. Always in V8 mode now.
My #6 lifter on my 07 Tahoe got stuck in V4 I freed it and installed the RANGE and it has been working great for 13k miles now I will be rebuilding the engine next spring with DOD delete
Very informative I bought one for my 2019 Chevy Silverado it seems to be working like is supposed to took a ride in the mountains this past Sunday and got little over 23 mpg
Had this on my 2011 and don't know the throttle response change that others talk about but definitely helps with lack of go, but needed more so I went with a tuner and donated it to the next guy.... always pay it forward
I had an old Diablo Intune i1000 kicking around, and I just updated its firmware and hooked it up too my 16 Sierra and changed my tire size and deactivated DOD mode and its a completely different unit with just the Canned 87 oct tune. Pretty darn happy with my daily driver at the moment. :D
@@jeremylakenes6859 I wouldn’t say much what so ever too be honest. I’m sure if you got a custom Diablo tune from a actual tuner I’m sure it would be better.
Just order one from summit .I have a 18 Silverado with 18 k not home much when surfing the web saw this and watch more.Seems to b the best way and easy way of getting around the v4 crap
Lol, saw that and was thinking, "damn lucky few out there won't even need any work-arounds" while I'm watching videos about tuning or always in manual mode...
Was at my local Chevy dealer today talking with the owner and sales manager. As far as they know, the engines will still have the AFM hardware (e.g. those miserable AFM lifters, etc.). They'll just always be in eight cylinder mode all the time due to no AFM "chip" being installed. Too bad the 5.3 and 6.2 couldn't have "normal" lifters like the 2007 Classic and older.
I've had this in my Sierra/6.2 for a almost a year now and it started throwing the same check engine code. I didn't know about this video so I ended up taking it to the dealership and they replaced my TCM and it still caused the same code after the repair. That's when I found out about this, contacted range and they reprogramed mine, did the same thing. Ended up sending me 2 more units and still the same thing, then we just upgraded to the Pulsar LT. Waiting on it to arrive as of now.
Have it on my 2012 Tahoe, great item considering all the problems that the AFM can lead to. Over a year of use not one issue, fuel economy dropped about one mile per gallon no biggie!!!
I bought my 2013 silverado with 40k miles installed the range device and left it in all the time, at 90k miles i had a lifter collapse in cylinder 1 and cost a fortune to fix, i really thought this device would help prevent gm lifter failure but the only way to really fix it is do the full afm delete kit!
The Main reason why I use it on my Chev Camaro SS is the L99 engines have Lifter issues , thanks to the AFM system , with that device , it helps on wear and tear on said Lifters
Thanks for the video! I work in the fields and drive a 2018 Silverado alt 4x4. First thing I noticed was the transmission clunking. Truck has 50k. Had 40 when I purchased. I bought the range to stop my transmission clunking! Seems to have stopped it from clunking on the up shift, I’ve noticed on the downshift when I’m cruising the lease roads, it still clunks on the final down shift. I hate the transmission. I love the red truck and the 5 percent tint all the way around. But I’m scared for the transmission!!!!!! Range really really really helped the transmission on the up shift and overall truck drives way way way way better. It’s funny you mentioned that it basically tells the truck that there’s a load constantly, I noticed hauling trailers that my transmission shifts very very smooth. Good video!
I bought a 2016 Silverado 5.3 over a month ago. For a while I thought I had engine problems. After figuring it out I purchased a range and plugged it in. Drove 50 plus miles and the 6 speed shifts smooth into every gear. Never goes into V4.
