I had a very similar story of how I got into Sonic. This is a really good and well thought out review. My favorite arch are anything with Scourge, and any arch where Eggman is evil. It is definitely one of my favorite work of fiction.
Eggman had some great moments, really put the freedom fighters through hell many times. scourge lockdown whichmis issues 29 to 32 were awesome for a last story with scourge it ended on a cliffhanger doe also in one of those issues tmnts bebop and rocksteady appear as a easter egg and they are owned by idw which is cool cause this was a couple years before the reboot and cancellation it was close to reaching issue 100 but the ending was the end of a story arc where the chaotix gotta solve a case with a kidnapping so universes ending was fine but main series was close to issue 300 and it ended at the 3rd part of a segasonic the hedgehog and sonic cd style storyline so its a literal megaman legends 2 like ending boom and x was cancelled and boom was at 13 then got cancelled because haters x didnt get to many people so it was canncelled around issues 30s or 40s every other thing was specials
Archie Comic's depiction of Amy Rose wasn't canon at all to the SEGA Sonic video game mainstream. In fact, they did everything to make Amy look bad in favor of Sally Acorn who isn't canon to the SEGA Sonic video game mainstream. Many Sally fans hated how in the SEGA mainstream that Sonamy is canon and official and that Sonally does not exist in the video games or in Sonic X and Sonic X is considered canon to SEGA. While I don't hate Sally Acorn's character, I hated how Archie overplayed her role while downplaying and undermining Amy's character, which was why I was happy when SEGA cancelled Archie Sonic and started from scratch with IDW Sonic. And truly, IDW Sonic did real justice to Amy's character, fixing the damages Archie did to her character and reputation in the comics.
I'm sure I will tackle this subject again in another discussion video! A few other sonic related topics that I want to tackle are: Looking back at the Sonic Mega Collection, the Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, A review and defense of video for Sonic Unleashed, Sonic X related video, a video about why the 3D Sonic games all need to get HD Widescreen ports like Adventure 2 did a few years ago [especially for Switch], etc etc. So many different things that one can tackle in videos in relation to Sonic. thanks for watching and commenting!!

I feel like your tribute video did justice to the comic. When I heard that the old writer/animator ken penders tried to sue SEGA... and won, I was upset. I had a feeling that this would be the beginning of the end of Sonic Archie. I know Ian Flynn and Tracy Yardly continued with Sonic on IDW. And I love IDW's art style but. ...I don't know. Why take down something that's been build upon for so many years. It's not fair. And now, Ian Flynn and co., has to do it all over again.
Glad you enjoyed the video. I was also sad to the see the comic end. And I'll always be pissed at penders for what he did. But we got 2 decades worth of great stories. I'll always be thankful it lasted so long. I've read a bit of the idw comics. Seems fun. I will read more later. And it wish all the writers and artists on those comics the best.

Orrin Lees I wish sega would bring it back. But it’s unlikely. They aren’t involved with archie comics anymore and archie might own some aspects of the comic. And there’s penders who owns the echidna stuff: and let’s not forget that for sega if Japan and for sonic fans from japan the Archie comic and satam show don’t mean much to them. But I do hope at some point they do use the freedom fighers again. But it won’t be connected for the Archie comics. They would have to reboot it I imagine.

I want to make more videos in the future about archie sonic, and satam sonic. But I need to re-read these comics. and read the ones I haven't read. Ive been getting many old issues in comixology these last few months. Metro Comics is great. It is still in business. this week they posted on their Facebook page that they moved to a new bigger location. but its still inside the same mall [san patricio plaza]. A story arc in the Archie comics you can check out is issue 225-230 (Sonic:Genesis). It was made for Sonic’s 20th anniversary. For some context: *Dr. Eggman has built the Death Egg and created the “Genesis Wave”, a phenomena that he uses to reset Mobuis to the beginning.* *Sonic and the rest (with their memories erased) have to re-meet and team up to stop Eggman’s dastardly plan!*
Need to read that arc! Wish the comics were easier to get but now the trade paperbacks many have gone way up in price. And sadly they didn’t do them all this way. So sad the archives stopped where they did, didn’t even make it to issue 100
@@djtitoflowsnerdydimensions3299 That is pretty sad. I miss the days the Archie comics were easily assessable. If you need more context about the Death Egg, you should probably start at issue 212 and read up to the Genesis arc. It gives the story more punch.
Isn't it sorta poetic how the last game made into an Archie comic adaptation was Sonic Mania, a throwback to the first games, with similar graphics? Finishing where you started.
I had always known about the comic growing up but I never got to ever read any issues at all. Then when they revealed the Megaman crossover (Worlds Collide) I knew I had to have it. I found the app on IOS and downloaded the volume after not being able to find the paper books in any comic store. Ever since then I tried to read past issues. I read the most landmark issues, 100, 125 all that stuff. Even read the first 50 issues and the two future story arcs and didn't really like it. It never felt like how i felt Sonic should feel. That all changed after the reboot though, the writing became a lot more like the games. That's when I decided to follow the books as they came out but now it's cancelled. Shame. Sally was always one of my favourite characters even back in the SatAM days, she was smart, level headed and tried hard despite not having the same level of power as Sonic. In the comics she even fought Metal Sonic which I thought was totally badass.
Sally is one of my favorites as well. Its a crime that she and the freedom fighters have never been in the game universe. I hope we see them again in another show or comic. I wish SatAM would return to TV. make a spiritual sequel, kinda what the archie comics were these past 24 years. but maybe less echidnas this time! agagagaga. and keep the more classic designs on the freedom fighters. I prefer sally before the reboot after the megaman crossover.

but legally they can't use Sonic or any other sega characters. they would need to change a lot. it would have to be something new. new animals instead of sonic and his team, new villain who sort of looks like egg man but isn't eggman, etc. no point in archie doing that. But don't worry. We fans will keep the freedom fighters alive. And we can always go back to these comics and the satam show for nostalgia. And who knows, maybe one day SEGA decides to give this concept another shot on TV or another comic. But I doubt it will be with Archie. and it would draw mostly from satam and not from archie comics. and the Penders created characters are off limits. No one is touching that ever again. Too much legal mumbo jumbo. He seems to own them know. He just can't call them Echidnas or draw them exactly like they looked before.
from what I've heard over the years the show came first and the comic was a tie in comic that used characters from the show. But I could be wrong. thanks for the comment and for watching the video. The comic started 11/22/92. The show came 9/18/93. The comic started as a 4 issue mini-series, but then once SatAM released, it became a regular series.
i was not aware of that. thanks for the info. but animated shows can take a while to get off the ground. i wouldn't be surprised if the show was in development before the comic but the comic ended up coming out first. that would explain why the comic was way cartoonier than the show. cause they mostly went with the character designs instead of story and tone, cause the episodes were early in development and art was mostly what archie comics had to go with at the time for inspiration. I need to look further into this. its an interesting topic for a video actually. the way the origins of the comic and show are intertwined.
did you like the satam archie sonic comics as a kid I was long time colleter. I know every story. the last issue was issue 290. 291 292 or 293. was coming but unfortunately calleled. I was crying. so please understand thank you
After I played the Sonic Mega Collection on Gamecube I started reading the comic. that game had as a bonus feature a gallery of archie comic covers, and the "the beginning" to read. between playing the genesis games on that collection, and reading the comic, and playing adventure 2 battle I fell in love with sonic that year. and later on I got into Sonic X when it started airing on the fox box. and sonic satam i saw when shout factory put out the dvd. etc etc. ive never stopped playing, watching, or reading sonic. Ill always be a sonic fan. need to see the movie, still havent found the time to go see it.
And I'm a huge fan of Sonic the hedgehog also and I always wanted to continue sonic Satam and sonic underground from their second season before they cancel them
now I see. yeah it sucks that Satam ended so soon, but at least we got the comic for about 2 decades! Maybe one day the satam universe will return or get reinvented or something. In the meantime we have the two seasons and the 200 plus comics that archie published to go back to and rewatch and re-read. We fans will keep it alive! And we will keep the other shows alive like underground which you mentioned, Sonic X, Boom, etc. They all have their rightful place in the history of Sonic!
I don't remember much of mina. I remember she used to sing. and there was a bit of a love triangle between sonic, sally, and her for a while. I need to re-read the comics. ive enjoyed what ive read so far. no comic will ever be as good as what archie did with sonic, and no show as good as the SatAm show. but i wish the IDW team the best. i want the comic to be good and continue to grow and evolve. i look forward to catching up. im very behind. i like that many writers and illustrators from the archie comcis are back. that was a good move by IDW!
