After trying the Schuberth C5 for a little while, I ended up selling it and buying an HJC RPHA 90s Carbon Luve from Chromeburner. It arrived in 4 days! This is the unboxing and ride video, enjoy!

I tried the C5 in a store, the helmet gave me vibes that it was cheaply built and didn´t have groves for glasses despite being marketed as a touring helmet.

I was always using Shoei and after seeing the HJC 90S Carbon, when it came out, I was blown away. Good price, very comfortable, quite , very well built, lite and just good value. I paid almost 2 years ago, 450.00 shipped. I will not use anything else....period. I love mine. The only thing I will not install is the Sena 20B com. Not so good sound quality. Will go with exterior unit. if you looking for one, this helmet is a winner, in my book.

Glad you like it. I have not been as blown away as you. The visor leaks water, I have trouble closing the chin bar because the shell flexes over an inch, and I had to send it back to have the drop down visor fixed. It is comfortable and quiet and light, but I'm not sold on the quality.

@@TimsMotorcycleAdventures Very interesting. Have not witnessed those issues, yet. Its been 2 years now. Sorry to hear that. I will probably give them a chance again, in the future. I can't complain. Safe ride!!!

I have the same helmet (RHPA 90S Carbon). I like it a lot but the upper vent will make a rattle sound as well when it is in the open position. Extremely light and quite quiet. Very comfortable fit on my head after I changed the cheek pads. The ones that came on my ECE version were a tad tight. I went one size thinner and it was perfect. BTW no issue mounting a standard Sena on this Helmet. The clamp will slip in just behind the slide for the drop down sun visor.
@TimsMotorcycleAdventures
@TimsMotorcycleAdventures 2 года назад
Yes, it is light and quiet. But my sun visor switch is broken already. And it leaks water in the rain. I don't have the rattle on the top vent though. Also, I couldn't get the Cardo mount to slide in, so I used the sticky mount. I do find it very comfortable though. Oh, and the cheek pads are comfortable for me, but after 2 months they push out the sides of the helmet so much I can't close the chin bar. I have sent it back for warranty work.
@Doug_Morgan
@Doug_Morgan 2 года назад
@@TimsMotorcycleAdventures Wow you have had some real issues with yours. I am not sure if calling it a rattle is correct, but there is a rattle type noise to the wind coming in when it is open if that makes any sense. I have had mine for over a year now and have put about 25,000 km on it. Still looks like new.

After having owned a Schubert C4 Pro for two years I was "medium impressed". It was quiet but build quality actually left some things to be desired, a screw in the back came loose (hard to fix) and it had a ventilation whistling noise from factory which I fixed myself by bending a plastic piece. Moreover the visor in its lowest position was too open, sometimes you just want a small, small gap to avoid misting. I also don't like how fiddly the interior is to take in and out. Sorry Schubert, you have 100% the price but only 80% the quality and attention to detail imho. Trying this one now but too soon to judge, will be interesting to put some miles on it.
@cyclechris6591

It takes a few rides for cheek pads to conform. It’s normal to feel too tight until break in.
@TimsMotorcycleAdventures
@TimsMotorcycleAdventures 2 года назад
True, but unfortunately after a month it was the shell that started to loosen and push out. So bad that I could no longer close the chin bar without pushing on the sides of the helmet.

The shueberth c5 has a modular interchangeable inside padding that has to be custom fit/built ,they ship it with default small internals, you got go to dealer and they fit you with right internal

Currently have the Schuberth C4 pro. Not impressed with Schuberth quality. The rivet that the neck strap attaches to came off. The interior padding and neck pad is coming apart. Not worth the expense of replacing. Looking for a viable replacement . Thanks for the reveiw.

If you are looking for quality then look elsewhere. I've had the Rpha 90s for 4 months and have done 10,000km. I've had to send it back to HJC for warranty work because the sun sheild broke. The shell has got really flexy to the point that I have to use smaller cheak pads just to close it (HJC claims that's normal). The visor leaks water and the sheild scratches very easily. I have not been impressed with the reliability.

Everything to mentioned about having issues with the C5 I have heard from others, hence why I am not replacing my C3 Pro, which seems to have none of the issues of the C5. Too bad for Schuberth as this appears to be a step backwards.
@TimsMotorcycleAdventures
@TimsMotorcycleAdventures 2 года назад
Yah, there's lots to like about the C5, I really miss the chin vent. But the other issues are puzzling for a premium helmet company. Glad I had the opportunity to own one and try it out though.

Hi, what about visor issues during the rain. There are some users complains about rain drops going thrue visor gasket. Have you try this helmet in haevy rain? RPHA 90s has redesigned this visor seal and it is one of the bigest issues of this model.
@TimsMotorcycleAdventures
@TimsMotorcycleAdventures 2 года назад
I rode in light rain yesterday and didn't notice an issue. Except when I opened the visor water dribbled down the inside, which makes sense,as water would be sitting on the seal. We'll see how it goes in heavy rain though.
@TimsMotorcycleAdventures
@TimsMotorcycleAdventures 2 года назад
So an update after riding in heavy rain for hours. Yes, it leaks and sprays water in my eyes. Also water got in to the drop down sun visor and made it stick, so when I lowered it the next day it kinked the cable.

@@TimsMotorcycleAdventures What are you going to do now? I have the same problem with Airoh Commander and when I complained that issue to a dealer they simply told me that helmet is not waterproof and can leak. They pisted me off.
@TimsMotorcycleAdventures
@TimsMotorcycleAdventures 2 года назад
@@kicekap yah, HJC says they offer no guarantee that their helmets are waterproof. Really? I have sent it back because the drop down visor also broke and the shell has developed so much flex that when I wear it I can't close the chin bar anymore. I have been very disappointed in this helmet and will not be buying another HJC. I'll have to see if they warranty the issues before deciding on anything else.

Hi. I bought this helmet last saturday and i'm a little bit sad, because the weather in Portugal is cold in the morning, around 7/8 degrees and the visor fogs up very quickly, even with the air intakes all open. I didn't install the pinlock, but I think I'll have to... anyone else having the same thing happen to this specific helmet? Apart from this detail, I love the helmet: good construction, light, with very good soundproofing. Thaks for the review!

It needs the pinlock for sure, otherwise it will fog up a lot. Also mine leaks water in the rain and it sprays onto my face.

Interesting, I don't remember having that issue, but it could be because I was behind a windscreen, or maybe it was still really new. I found it much better than the RPHA visor, which feels cheap and leaks water.

No helmet is perfect. I have the Schuberth C3 Pro, the AGV Tourmodular and a "cheapo" HJC i70. I use them all. They all have their pros and cons. In my case, while not perfect, the C3 Pro is the winner. In the end it all comes to personal taste, but not one single helmet is perfect.

Very true, but when you spend this kind of money for a lid I do expect more than buying an entry level helmet. When you spend $900+ on a helmet there should be way more pro's and very few con's. In retrospect, I should have kept the C5, the Rpha 90s has not lasted very well and has had far too many problems for the price. But then, maybe my Shoei GT-air spoiled me. 5 years and no issues at all with that helmet.

Thanks for the comments. With all the problems I have had with the 90s since this review, comfort has not been one of them. I'm coming from a Shoei gt air and the Schuberth and to me it is just as comfortable. I also feel the difference in weight to the C5. However, the 90s has not lasted very well, the visor leaks, the sun shade broke and the shell is too flexible. My C5 had a top vent that rattled and felt like it was going to fall off, and the shell size was huge, so it wasn't all roses on that end either. But I should have kept it, if only I had got the right size.

I am replacing my Neotec 1 with either 1 or 2 helmets (mainly so I can have 1 helmet on Cardo and 1 on Sena). I tried an AGV sportmodular and it was horrible - front smashes your face. I got a Neotec 2 which I am trying and looks like a keeper - only issue is strap is a bit short and/or badly placed and irritates neck a little. A buddy of mine had the RPHA 90 carbon and I honestly thought it felt really cheap. I tried a C5 in a store and I did really like it, just left a hotspot on forehead. It seems your main beef with the C5 was the fit. You know the C5 has the 'individual fit system' besides the cheekpads you can change out the actual liner pieces and make it either a little more round or oval by a few mm. I think I'm going to buy one with a oval kit and try it out. Maybe you should give it another try - or look at the Neotec 2.
@TimsMotorcycleAdventures
@TimsMotorcycleAdventures 2 года назад
I just tried a Neotec 2 on again yesterday. It was good, but te sun visor doesn't come down far enough and those triangles on the side bug me. The C5 was great, probably should have kept it, but the replacement pads weren't out yet and I had a big trip coming that I needed a helmet for. I have been thinking about the new AGV Tourmodular, but of course no shops near me stock it. The RPHA 90s carbon didn't feel cheap out of the box, but I has not lasted at all. It's a hard thing when you can't try them on back to back or ride in them. I do like how light the 90s is, and it's quiet. But otherwise I wouldn't recommend it.
