After a fun welcome for a new golden girl, we had to say goodbye to one of our OG's, Big Mama.
Although I'm glad she's no longer struggling, I'm going to miss her.
Planting season is starting to take a toll, but we took advantage of a tiny window Mother Nature gave us and finally got some corn in the ground!
AND... in the lamb barn, we were surprised by an unexpected onlooker who had taken up shelter... rent free.

Sandi, what i love and admire the most about you is the love you have for your flock. You found a way to create a space for your retired ewes instead of the alternative. RUBY! Yes. So hard on Sandi. But I know the joy and love outweighs the pain. We have lost many dogs over the years, and I still love each of them. I do believe we will see them again.

She had Lovely Golden days! Her life was with you, not outside 24/7 lambing in some open field with predators to worry about all the time. You keep them safe, you love them. And it shows. She was Sassy, and voluptuous and proud of her curves. And in the end she went sunbathing with her friends and when the sun left she followed.

She passed with her friends and family. You can’t ask for a better way to go. She was obviously was loved by many! I’m am deeply sorry for your loss! You’ve given your golden girls something that many retired mamas don’t get and I have the greatest respect for you and the compassion you have for all your animals! You are one of the strongest women I know and watching how you push through all that is thrown at you gives me strength knowing it’s possible to persevere! Thank you for letting us into your life!

Sandi I remember when i first found you like 4 years ago it was on a video of Big Mama and Ruby when they were in there lambing days.😊 And it was what made me start watching your channel.😊 So when Ruby passed my heart literally shattered. 💔 Then Lucky passed and my heart shattered.💚💔 Now that Big Mama has passed my heart is shattering all over again.💔 Sandi you are an amazing Sheep farmer/mama to all your ewe's and ram's so never forget you're doing a good job! 😊😊😊

How sweet that Big Mama got to have such an ending. You took wonderful care of her, and I can imagine her making her way outside last night one more time, being comfortable in her warm coat and the cool air, and drifting off to sleep looking up at the sky and smelling the grass.

❤️‍🩹 Sandi the loss of Big Mama, while not expected was not unexpected either. As someone said in a previous post…she walked out into her grassy home and passed quietly and quickly perhaps as the sun was going down or coming up. Sandi you took great care of Big Mama as you do all the ladies. The retirement home for sheep was an excellent idea. Know that you do a great things that are amazing and your heart is in it always even if it hurts sometimes. ❤️‍🩹

Loss is always sad, but I think if I were a sheep being able to lay down in fresh grass and cool air would be exactly how I'd like to go. I'd like to think Big Mama got to go out on her own terms on her own time because of the love and care you've given her.

I am so sorry for your loss of big mama. She had a wonderful life and may she now be in her green pasture with all of her other friends that have passed.
