What an absolutely delightful guest. You can see why she fitted straight in here. No nonsense attitude. This is the kind of families we need here. When people say that so many are leaving to live in Australia, I say, let them, those who want to be here will come.

Yup, agree. Plus will chip in and add that, quite a few recent arrivals do plan to move on to AU in the future, that is the plan all along. We don't take it personally, NZ is a special place but it's not for everyone!

I am reminiscing our 3 year stint in Timaru thru my husband's work. Our kids were 9 and 11 then, and we have to say we enjoyed, especially for the kids, the accessibility and small community spirit of Timaru. Guess it helps, that both my husband and I were very much involved in the kid's sports (coaching and managerial). I'm not sure why there was a negative impression and a butt of joke of Timaru, which we often champion Timaru at every opportunity. I hope that is no longer the case now. Lovely chat you both🙂

Interesting hearing your reasons for moving to NZ, and what you like about it there. Kiwi here now living in Devon - moved to the UK in late 2019. Absolutely loving it here, and wouldn't ever want to return to Auckland. I guess the grass is always greener on the other side. And also depends on what your lifestyle preferences are. Parts of NZ are certainly good for raising kids. For me, I left NZ as I'm an academic, and the research environment is much better in the UK. I'm also a musician, and the music scene in the UK is far richer. That being said, when I am old and decrepit, perhaps I may return to NZ to retire there.

@@ItsaDrama Speaking of which, getting acquainted with Brit slang along the way has been a real hoot. And loving the dry sense of humour Brits have. The banter here is really quite something. I can imagine you've picked up on some Kiwi slang in your time there. And quite Kiwi-specific nuances like the whole "yeah/nah" thing. Hopefully it's all been sweet as. 🙂

Tania Welcome to new zealand South. Good choice. Liz yep she's a real kiwi she fits the mold perfectly. (Grand parents spelling English surname) Tania your contributions will be appreciated and from what I see you'll love us as much as we will love you. Awesome mum, don't worry apron strings. She and her husband allowed freedom of thought the result well above awesome kids. New Zealand may be on people list "last" good let's keep paradise only for those worthy. Anywhere in the world too be a kiwi you'll find a welcome. Stay safe every one.

Life's is what you make it.saying that UK will always be home to you. Sth Island was a good choice . I've had a couple of trips to the UK. People were awsome but never understood some of the restrictions . I put it down to the population base, 65mil v 5mil

Hi, just wanted to offer a tip that might work for you folks regarding your daughter's dyslexia. A very close family member had the same condition at the same age, she was given some help at school but it did little if anything. We found a SPELD tutor who in the space of a month helped raise her reading age by two years. They woman was amazing and so matter of fact about it. From memory the cost back then was $30 a session.

Tanya, when you say the GCSE’s don’t carry over, was that because your son hadn’t completed the full 2 years? Are you referring to the first year of GCSE’s that wouldn’t carry over into the NZ education system?
