Locate a car of similar vintage. I know Henry’s car at this time is a ‘66(?) Imperial convertible by Chrysler. I would recommend something a tad less expensive. Then go from there in terms of wardrobe and other details.

Well, in addition to it being one take (which, I mean, yeah, it’s cool, but oners aren’t exactly uncommon), it does more than just show Henry and Karen entering a restaurant - it shows the power and respect Henry Hill, by all accounts an outsider, has accrued by this point in his life. There’s a line around the block? Not for Henry. There’s no tables available? For Henry there is. It also shows Henry wielding his charm - he knows the name of every single person he passes and interacts with, from the owner of the club to the doormen to the kitchen staff. Furthermore, the actual construction and composition of the shot is flawless. The use of steadycam wasn’t as ubiquitous as it is now, and you’ll be hard pressed to find similar shots as this in films that came before, and for several years after.

Long takes might excite film buffs, but they seem like scams to me. This scene doesn't even make sense. When Liotta & Bracco turn into the hallway, past the guy writing on the wall, at about 3:03, you can see a firehose on the wall at the end of the hall. There are two doorways on the left side of hall. Liotta & Bracco go into the first one, walk through the whole kitchen and come out the second doorway into the same hall! You can see the same firehose to their left! There was no need to make that whole trip through the kitchen, just to get into the club. The characters could have simply walked a few feet further, instead of detouring into the kitchen. A more recent famous long take is the hallway fight in Daredevil, but a LOT of the action in that "take" happens off camera. The reason why a long take is impressive, especially for something as elaborate as a fight scene is all the moving parts you have to get right, but they didn't show the moving parts. Charlie Cox and the stuntmen were not fighting the whole time, they just took turns lurching out of a door, throwing a few punches and running into another one. Set it to Yakety Sax, and you have a Benny Hill routine. Still like the movie and show I mentioned, I just wish they concentrated entirely on entertaining the audience, rather than pandering to technical critics.

My bad, I meant at 0:51.
@antcif

My favorite film sequence of all time. The Spector documentary brought me here because I never knew he produced this song. Reading about his producing genius I learned about his “wall of sound” method for mixing and cutting music to produce a very busy powerful “wall of” sound. It’s funny that Scorsese combined it with visuals that are equally busy, but with zero cuts. Absolutely perfect. When I watch this scene sometimes I think I wanna be a gangster too.

I did this walk the first time I went to the Copa - I was in Jr high and my aunt was the opening act for Jackie Wilson who was headlining...my uncle brought us thru the kitchen and sat us at a ringside table....I didn't know it was special (my second night club ever) and seeing this scene years after made me appreciate how thrilling it actually was!

There's just something about this scene. Almost hypnotic. Masterfully executed.

Saw this at a matinee the week it came out. Beautiful sunny weekday in West Philly. Old Art Deco cinema on City Line, no longer there. 3 or 4 people in the entire audience. 2 hours later I knew I had seen one of the greatest films ever made.
