Why is my air conditioner not cooling? Here's why your Goodman air conditioner runs but does not blow cold air. On this video I show how the repair could be as simple as a bad hard start on your Goodman air conditioner. Although this is a Goodman air conditioner, this repair will fix most AC units of different brands.

Hey Lex, you may know this, the potential relay that's with the start capacitor is a normally closed contact and is design to open the contract to take the start capacitor out of the circuit once voltage has been applied to the compressor for about one to 2 secs. And sometimes the potential relay is faulty and the relay never opens the contact which leaves the start capacitor in the circuit which would cause over amping on the compressor. Good way to test to see if the relay is working is to place your amp clamp around one of the wires going to the start capacitor and watch it to make sure the amps cut off once compressor turns on. If your still reading amps relay is not doing its job. Great video.

Yes sir, it's always good practice to replace the potential relay with the start capacitor, and not all potential relays are created equal the coil in the relays are size to match the compressor as they use reverse polarity from the compressor voltage to energize the relay. Their pretty cool relays on how they work once you know how they work. They used them all day long on single phase refrigeration condensers.

And just to add to that, you should read a high resistance through the coil, usually 2 and 5, and the NC contacts are 1 and 2 Nice work skid👍

Absolutely! Standard procedure is to change the relay if the start capacitor is defective.

I like that craftsman meter with the Cap function Bromie. Can’t stand how I gotta hit buttons multiple times on my UEI. Also left my Hotel engineer job to be a HVAC service tech. I enjoyed it but you’re right. No appreciation for pennies. They need to start dishing out the cheddar!

Those units are 7 to 9 subcool. I would suspect a issue with that txv with that superheat so high.

Most Goodman that come with txv’s around here have hard starts from the factory idk. Btw if that hard start went bad they wouldn’t start.

It popped the breaker and wouldn't start. I've seen this before and once I change the hard start, it fixes it. I haven't heard from either of them again. One was 2 months ago. No call back. And this video was filmed a week ago and no call back. 🤞 Thank you so much for watching Justin!
