Lol why should goodwill sell stuff at low enough prices that ppl can come in and resell for a profit. Hate to break it to you but goodwill is not a charity they work for a profit. The only charitable thing goodwill does is hire ppl with special needs.

🙄 So, if you were selling your things you wouldn't upcharge stuff you spent more on? And yeah, yeah, most is donated, but you think they put out everything they get? No, people have to go through those, pick the best of the best. Have you ever seen how foul some things can be? Once went through a box that literally had moldy nasty oatmeal corroded in a canister. Smelled hella nasty. By all means, go volunteer for 90 days and I guarantee you'll change your tune.
@@kaylapounds1359 ummm it's the goodwill. It's supposed to be for the goodwill. Not a profit. I have found doller tree items there.. they had a frame that is 1.25 all day at doller tree. It was 4.99 at goodwill amd they were charging 22.00 for hats that came free in from a bank. Like what.
Good call out. The main thrift stores, particularly Goodwill, smartened up to the flipping game, so they’re pricing the goods at the same prices that the flippers are charging and getting.
@@MyOddThoughts They overcharge on items they get for free and throw away whatever they don't sell. What they don't send to the landfill, they ship overseas to countries that do not want their trash. This ruins their economy. They also treat their workers terribly.
Which CEO? Goodwill is not a national thrift store; it has regional stores, thus there are many CEO's across the country. Each region has different management and goals so when I read comments about a CEO making millions, I have to laugh. Which CEO??,
Notice the male sandals that were originally 6 bucks from the original store and GW has it for 5.99. Like we wouldn't notice that they're selling it for the same price as the original store, for something they got for free
@@SJ-ni6iy Well like she said. Pandemic. Some of us need money rn. And this is an easy job for some of us who aren’t able to get jobs right away or for people who can’t get a job
@@raynaakuma9981 the thing is, is that goodwill can also look on social media and see thousands of resellers gloating about how much their reselling stuff that they’ve under valued. Thus anything that has a noticeable brand on it gets a jump in prices. I don’t think there would be this steep a jump if it weren’t for reseller tik tok.
Why? Like IDK about where you live but Goodwill is still hella cheap in Ohio. You'd spend 2 or 3+ times more at Walmart! There only 1 cheaper thrift store in town and I Haven been there since before the pandemic because although they're cheaper, their quality sucks so much. Disappointed to find so many things that were stained and nasty looking.
My favorite thrift store is a small volunteer run store that charges sales tax but all of the proceeds go to support local charities. I love the fact that the money I spend there goes to help the needy in our community, plus the volunteers are the sweetest.
Few months back I went to donate about 8 bags of my family’s stuff, went back to shop a few weeks ago since my daughter is into all these y2k trends and found a few of my donated items, the prices I saw on them were insane!!! They definitely are making a profit out of FREE/DONATED ITEMs. My daughter saw that and now she won’t let me donate anymore, she’s made 2 yard sales ever since. Lol
This is why I don't donate to them. The stores here in Miami have been selling stuff for crazy prices for like 15years. I always give my stuff to to women's shelters
Goodwill has become ridiculous. I've started going to St Vincent. I see your in St Louis hello to you so am I! Goodwill is becoming to over priced. Specially when you see a dollar store item for 2.43 lol
And on top of the prices, they now always ask if you want to "round up". I started asking them when "round down" day is. So to the round up question My answer is "no" .
As someone who worked at a thrift store, what probably happened was that they got those shoes with the clearance tags on them, cut off the tags, and are selling them for the clearance price. At least that’s what we did when we priced things. Thrift stores have to make money too.
I know! !! Profit is the only target now and all the fun and excitement is being taken away! And where do the money go? Goodwill employees are paid peanuts and - generally - they are always understaffed. Mmmmhhh... Some CEOs and high level employees are taking good chunks but there had to be more money somewhere else... We'll know it when it blows up! 😔 😟
The CEO gets a 6 figure a year for what?? It is second hand. I saw a pair of shoes well used I might add for 35 dollars a purse for 50. I will not pay that price when I can get new at TJ Max Marshal's or Ross GOODWILL priced a bowl higher then the price at TJMax. It had a Tj pricetag but greddywill was higher. Maybe it's time to expose Greddywill to the public. Let people know exactly what what with them. FOX News might b intetested
You're so right they are getting the stuff for Free I stopped donating to Goodwill because they don't know how to sell I'm donating donating to local shelters for the homeless
Each Goodwill location is different. A lot has to do with the kind of donations they get and how knowledgeable the manager is who runs the place. There are two near me. One had a Schwinn bicycle for sale identical to one I bought at Walmart for $199 the month before and that Goodwill had a price of $250 for it and the tires were nearly bald and the paint had scratches all over it, basically in used condition. That one always has ridiculous prices on things. But the other one at the other end of the county sells bicycles in good working condition for $50. A lot of these places know people are buying their stuff to resell on eBay.
Just fyi some good wills are buying semis full of returns and there overstock from name brand stores. That's probably the reason for to so many duplicates. My local store got a semi of online returns from target. Not all the stuff was great. Some had shipping damage. Just make sure to check it good before buying. Happy treasure hunting!
Most of the target merch is tagged to never go on sale at GW either so you’ll periodically find heaps of NWT stuff at the outlet for around $1 a pound. (Less bougie, but better than paying more than Target clearance prices for obvious clearance Target items)
Every Goodwill that is run by MERS out of St Louis is run that way. They own the Goodwill closest to me and the prices are nuts. And they skim all the good stuff to sell online om their website, and they sell on ebay too.
Yup I went to a new one recently. Think I wandered thru for 5 min before I turned around and walked back out. There was a single toddler pj top, with stains, marked at 3.99 (wtf??) The lowest price I saw in the women's clothing was 7.49.... uhhh what???
Goodwill is so expensive now. My goodwill (keep in mind in an area which is not very wealthy) is selling target crop tops which retail for 5$ at 7.98, and a coat for 98$ its ridiculous at this point.
Our Goodwill stores have eliminated fitting rooms. They’ll give credit, but not refunds. I’ve had to stop shopping there because of the high prices and the chance of items not fitting!
It's kind of interesting. Because we have a second hand store in Sweden too. And it's a whole chain of stores. Anyway they also get their stuff for free. People donate. And the people who work there are volunteers they don't get payed. And some stuff they sell are ridiculously expensive 😬 and some things are super cheap depending on which store you go too..
In canada, Ontario at least, we have stores called value village and they used to be amazing. I remember going with my mom all the time when I was little because she had 5 relatively young kids and it was hard to make ends meet sometimes, and when I found name brand I’d get super happy because I would be like the other kids at school talking about all their ‘expensive’ clothing. Now I walk into one of those stores and the name brand is all behind the front counter selling for nearly original prices. There was like a 2000’s ugly lulu lemon sweater, gross looking, being sold there for 50$. It was a miracle that I found a plain back shirt for 2.99. They get these items for free and they hike it all the way up, that’s messed up.
Goodwill is insane now. I was in yesterday and a pair of brandless heels were 25$. Um, no. They’ll be forced to lower their prices again but until then, no thanks.
Thrift stores really don't save you much these days.i saw a brand new pair of jeans tags still on them.they were a dollar cheaper than at the walmart.ive bought many pairs of jeans that don't last a week because they were dry rotted.thrift stores have became a rat race, you have to get there a certain day and time and hope they have something decent.the employees usually have lists from people that they know who want certain things that are put aside for them.they get paid to do it to.
Partly. Inflation is another aspect. Morally thrift stores should keep the price low because poor people shop there out of necessity. However, they don't seem to care
Inflation does not impact goodwill they do not pay for transportation of goods they do not pay manufacture I agree with greedy management because their cost besides employees didn’t go up.. everything that they get is free I have seen dollar tree items there and they price them at 3.99
@@teenahweenah6632 and there are resellers working at goodwill I PROMISE you The workers scan the good stuff they get donated and put out all the stuff impossible to profit on for us in the trenches. That’s why you can browse every section and find nothing good. The ones you find lots of good things at have moral employees who want everyone to enjoy the good donations.
Absolutely I donated some toys and saw them out a few weeks later for $20 i was pissed. They should not be calling themselves no profit. And they paid nothing for any of those items and the prices have gotten way too high!
Some goodwill stores have been on ebay for over 20 years. Shop goodwill started in 1999 with over $515 million dollars in sales and climbing daily. Goodwill is nothing more than a reseller of mostly donated free items. They are now buying amazon pallets to fill their stores with brand new products with instructions to use compared to pricing. Resellers have nothing to do with the price increase, it has to do with goodwill being a for profit company with a not for profit status...they really should be paying taxes on some of their profits. Blame goodwill for raising prices to gain the most profit - they could care less about keeping prices affordable for lower income people...it's about their profits period.
Yes because these places get free items to sell to the public. Please don’t forget as a reseller you have to clean, photograph and store these items. With all that said these places can charge whatever they want and it is up to people to buy at their price points.
@@flawsnalltreasures721you sound so ignorant it's ridiculous. You do know they have $1.50 day every sunday for certain colors, mondays are stuff a bag for a certain color for only $15, and literally ALL week, EVERY week they have a %50 off colored tag too. Their programs that are funded by their sales have helped millions of people. They did meals and donated tons of supplies when hurricane katrina hit. They have workforce programs that help people get back to work and get stable jobs, they help disabled and injured people with their neurorehab center. They help veterans and elderly with their veterans connections programs. They help their community and the earth with how much they recycle to save from filling landfills. Do more research and educate yourself before spewing garbage.
that’s crazy maybe it’s because people have been reselling and marking up everything from thrift stores 🧐 who would’ve thought that’s what was going to happen?
Those kids shoes are from Target. Target buys tons of Target clearance merchandise & sells it for more than the marked down Target price (usually). Anybody who thinks that Goodwill is a non-profit “charity” this sadly mistaken.
Once I saw a "light" school bag in their bags section. The bag was new and original price still there for $7.99 but goodwill priced it for "$10.00". The greed of this store is too much.
I tried to thrift everything and stop buying new and supporting fast fashion before the pandemic...now I don't have a choice because most of the time it's cheaper to just go to Primark than a charity shop.
I now donate to Bibles For Missions & 2 local (not nationwide) thrift stores and food banks. Bibles For Missions takes furniture, home goods, linens, etc. $$$ goes to foreign missions for Bibles and clean water.🙂
I’ve been saying it for years, they need to close this place down that’s a damn shame what they’re doing and people still go there buying used clothes at above retail price..
@@elainebb5937 Sorry to hear prices have gone up where you live. Where I live the prices are still cheap. ..but I am sure that will probably change in the future.
Well u have to remember the CEO of Goodwill Mark Curran makes $800,000 per yr & after you add in all the other perks his total salary is $1 million per year. I haven’t shopped at Goodwill in several yrs because of their high prices
I worked for them and after Christmas when people would donate their decorations of ornaments, outside deer made of wicker with lights very expensive donations that families with children would love to have and store for the next season because it's to expensive during the season, THEY(GOODWILL MANAGERS) would instruct us to put in the trash compactor because Christmas season was over. Sad truth. Lots of donators have no idea. It would be better to have a yard sale or just sit on the side of the road. Goodwills original concept for the company was wholesome, now it's greed.
If they have that many of the same thing in stock it's a new good that they bought themselves from pallets of discontinued items. You can ask employees about it, so no those aren't free. But in general yeah the prices are getting raised because they gave employees raises, or they were supposed to.
