My friends uncle who worked for Sun Microsystems told me over 25 years ago, if you work in the Tech industry, you better learn to save your money, no matter how much you make. He said it was an ever changing industry that likes new blood and the majority of people are expendable. I totally believe it now.
They need a "diversity" face as their CEO, who can go home and tell stories in his native country about his childhood, meanwhile running the country to ground and ruining American families.
OK, if tech workers are still needed, then why wasn't the tech workers who were already their, just retrained, to be more AI efficient, as opposed to just 'letting them go.'
Lets be realistic. "tech" worker often had a chip on their shoulder thinking they are irreplaceable while working at home. Many even demanded more pay and less hours. Many demanded Work-life Balance at the same time. Often they would even fight onsight meetings requesting they have meeting online. How to we begin to retrain to be more efficient? Cannot be done with this type of work mentality.
Companies are not a place to learn unless you are a Junior developer. If you are mid or Senior and your skills are not needed anymore, you can always apply again to a Junior dev job to learn the skills the company needs now but you'll get a massive salary cut

Thanks for the video. I finally established a way to increase my net income per month. My 2024 goal is to pay off the house by Sept 2024 (8 years total into a 30 year @ 4%). I have no debt other than mortgage. My 401k, HSA, IRA and emergency funds get maxed out. The mortgage is my last piece of debt left. I don't have any school loan or CC debt. I've made a lot of sacrifices over the years. I'm almost at the debt free finish line.

I remember2020 Presidential candidate, Andrew Yang talking about AI taking over lots of jobs away from humans. Most people don’t take him seriously, but now many people worry about AI as of today.
He also said truck drivers' jobs were doomed with the introduction of driverless trucks. It hasn't happend yet. It is estimated that by 2028, there will be a shortage of 160,000 drivers.

This has been going on era since the computer era came in the 80's.I was in an AT&T building Basking Ridge a girl I dated worked there and many sitting on the desk talking and playing golf on the computers and earning 75,000 a yearone young kid was earning 127,000 4 yrs of college I was temporarily laid off when the steel industry was going down the tubes.I was earning 11.45 an hour she was earning 48,000 a year.Go to college work less get payed a lot more.
As AI takes more and more jobs away, who will have the money to pay for the services these companies offer? How is it possible to have the career stability required to raise a family? And I am sure most people that go to college (spend years of hard training, add debt) are expecting to gain career stability. Instead they are treated like a simple 'cog' in a machine.

Seems like a strange appeal to emotion to make especially in the context of history. Historically, any major breakthroughs in technology or methodology has lead to rapid adjustments in the market economy. Obsolete jobs evaporates and the demand for new expertise increases to take its place. In this case, the demand for workers with skillsets to structure, manipulate and apply AI will skyrocket. Usually, the demand is so great, trades will develop that specializes in a specific niche because the supply for highly educated individuals specific to the new field is naturally too low to meet demands. There is always a brief period of adjustment as workers need time to acquire skills to meet market expectations and demand. While that does mean a proportion of people will not or cannot make the adjustment to acquire new skillsets, the financial incentive to adjust will be enough for most people to make skills/career changes. On the whole, this is how job markets have always reacted to new technology, I don’t see how the rapid introduction of AI is any different.

For all the people who like to shit on "Tech Workers" for being overpaid, this is the reason why. Coding literally is just the bare minimum to get into the interview, the actual interview is experience and knowledge beyond coding. Hiring a software engineer because he knows how to code is like hiring a person because they know how to speak English. Tech is always evolving which is why tech workers get paid so much. A plumber can be an amazing plumber with 25years of experience because our plumbing system hasn't changed in the past 100 years. In just 1-2years the tech industry can change so much, what sounds like it was a hot technology will become ancient.

You have to work for companies that utilizes AI. Google Cloud was not up to the mark and so will Google AI. The thing is Microsoft and Amazon have a solid handle on Business adoption of AI. Google has always struggled here. Apple AI is non-existent. 2024 is going to see a huge negative transformation for tech employees. Generative AI in code generation is catching on real fast. And the AI solutions are actually delivering. Expect layoffs of hundreds of beginner programmers soon. The number of coveted tech jobs is shrinking in America. If you are 50+, you may want to explore a different career path, as age-ism plus AI are simply going to make you redundant. Transformative change. This is going to get real ugly before it gets better.
Your company cuts the jobs in January and then complains in June they can not find enough workers. My thinking on this is ------if a company fires or lays me off. I will never work for that company again
Im in the medical field watching tech bros have free lunch, pool table at the office, WFH, 300k salaries while i was wearing a PPE sweating my bowls out was very jealous of them. Now i realize i have job security where i can literally walk out of my job and walk to the nearest clinic and have a job offer already waiting for me. Now im not so jealous.

BUT you have to be WORKING HARD, during school and once youre a nurse. A LOT of memorization and hard work. Not for the faint of heart but yeah, job security is crazy good.

I think that the mayor's idea of building soccer stadiums and parks downtown is terrific. A lot of the buildings around Union Square are pretty old; tear those down and let in some sunlight. Add 4 soccer stadiums with greenbelt spaces connecting them. Toss in some street fair market areas and some stages for performing arts. You could also build a western Presidential library for Barrack Obama and maybe a living museum that honors current and past women leaders. Feinstein would be an obvious choice. Add Hillary, Elizabeth Warren, and Kamala Harris. London Breed is the first black person to be mayor of SF, and of course she is a woman. Barbara Lee is a local too.
