Do a simple google search and you will find not what you are looking for only , but also what they want you to find or not find. They are not trying to screw you , just honestly trying to improve the quality of every single life in the modern world. They shine like the noble knights of bygone eras. The fact that these people don't understand how SEO works blows my mind, we need a more diverse group of people in our government. Scientists, developers, people that understand more than politics. When they ask these questions it's a waste of time, just like when Orin Hatch asked Mark Zuckerberg how Facebook makes money if its free. If we have people that have actual knowledge on the subject, the questions would be far more valuable.
The issue is widespread in government across the world. We are always behind on technology and always have rather reactive approaches to dealing with progress. Definitely the wrong process when potential for a new paradigm comes with every new bit of science and tech being pushed out.

Actually I think 1:16:04 the Congressman answered his own concern about bias. I think he actually understands it’s not Google but rather the culture of who actively spends more time on internet outrage. A large potion of the country actually is very moderate and doesn’t behave online in the way he’s described and it seems he knows that or at least assumes that. I have no issue with Google looking into that and confirming his thesis.

They still have like 90% market share of Search Engines. That is worth probably at least a Trillion dollars. Google search results are biased towards advertisers who pay most and that are popular. Their practices have slowly changed over the years and I have seen a visible deterioration in integrity and more manipulation myself. I hope we will have another alternative that's better in the coming years and google begins to see they have not been as upfront about their practices as they seem to portray.
