I install Google fiber in the field. Kansas City is almost complete. Austin TX is currently being serviced and there are many cities coming up. The fiber placement is paid for by advertisement and is placed in areas by request. So if you want Google fiber in your area, you can get it quicker if you get people in your area interested. And you'll keep me working.

Free internet limited to 5Mbps. I could probably live with that. Not the fastest (obviously) but can still play online games and stream tv and movies at that speed. That's pretty good

I currently live in Kansas City, and when we heard about google fiber a while back, I was a bit skeptical. Getting google fiber was the best choice I have ever made. Now its 2016, and Google Fiber is still on top of it's game. Avg 170 Mbps download and Avg 160 Mbps upload. DO NOT HESITATE TO GET GOOGLE FIBER

google: bringing tech to the extreme since 1998. seriously, google is pretty much built for making things better. Here is a list of things they made that were better than their predecessors. -search engines-google search -internet browsing-google chrome -tablets and phones-nexus devices -tablet and phone OS(not originally theirs but they saved this)-android -glasses-google glass -social media-google+ and youtube (to and extent) -gps-google maps -travel-google earth -mail-gmail -wallets-google wallet -calendars-google calendar -cloud storage-google drive -doing foreign language homework-google translate -the stock market-google finance -dating-google offers -knowing things for a fact-google scholars and soon to come: -internet service-google fiber there are probably a lot of things that I missed but google is just too awesome to be summed up in one youtube comment.

Google Fiber started in Kansas City, Kansas then migrated to Kansas City, Missouri. We're not known for much in KCKS; at least gives us our props on this fact.

Why is it only available in Kansas City? Kind of a random location for exclusive google internet.

Most ISPs now offer fiber-to-the-home in select areas, and they are deploying it like crazy, not just Google. Here in Mississippi (Yes, we have internet here) AT&T, MaxxSouth, and CSpire (maybe even comcast, not sure) are deploying it in most major towns and fixed wireless (fiber to the antenna) is coming fast too (up to a gigabit on that). One thing most people don't realize about reasonably-priced fiber-to-the-home is that it is shared bandwidth similar to cable. The transport type architecture is called GPON (look it up), and generally a 1-2.5Gb fiber passes through a passive optical splitter which services 32 people (up to 64). So you may not always see one gigabit/sec. of bandwidth, but from experience, you'll rarely see significant drops because most people don't use anywhere near that much bandwidth from their home. If you live in a populated area and are holding out for google fiber, you may be a while. At&t, for one, is deploying it like crazy, and you'll probably have them or another local provider as an option before Google.
