Google Home Mini VS Amazon Echo Dot. Which One Is Better? Google Home Mini Review 

I owned both for over a month. Returned my google home and added to more echos to the house. Spot on commentary about the voice recognition. Google far superior on understanding, however, at a high level the google home felt like a half ass attempt to enter the market. It’s kinda like google voice recognition slapped onto a speaker and mic. Many questions just query google search the same way that you can do on your android device right now. On the flip side, the Alexa feels far more polished and clean. Although google can translate any language, it all sounds robotic. Alexa speaks a few languages in very high quality speech that sounds lifelike. I had a very very easy time setting up my smart home devices on Alexa. I have lights, outlets, and switches from multiple companies and Alexa works fluidly. Google was a pain to set up these devices. My major dislike of Alexa is honestly voice recognition. I asked for Xmas music on Spotify and it has no idea what I wanted. Google was far better in this area. The skills store is amazing. Where google can query search engines, Alexa has polished and very effective “apps” or skills that grow larger every day. Moreover, I have an android device already, so I can already ask google things, throw videos on chrome cast, etc. I feel that when looking for something to watch I need to see thumbnails and see titles. Alexa is cleaner and more polished, works better for smart home devices, but has worse voice recognition. Echo dot speaker kinda sucks, but I connected my echo dot to my 5.1 surround sound system and sits awesome! Google is basically your android google assistant plopped onto a physical speaker. Very good voice recognition but still robotic, and a pain to use with other ecosystems. Great video.

the google home mini was briefly 30 bucks at walmart so i picked one up when it was marked down, yeah its very similar and works with many of the same smart-home tech, plus, google home is now availiable in many third party offerings including a portable 1ft tall speaker from insignia that is actually stero speakers, only sells for 80 bucks too, again marked down

I was trying to set up the Google Home Mini with the Alexa App because the person who gave it to me said it was an Echo, but from your comparison of the two I now know it is the Google Home Mini and have placed that app on my phone. We had to do a robotics presentation for my Robotics Class and I chose Google Home, and I’m seriously considering get one now! Only complaint no headphone jack, but the audio isn’t that bad. I can still enjoy music from its own speakers from what I’ve been hearing

I am looking to buy a smart home hub just for my room, All I need it to do is toggle my lights on and off, dim the lights, set a morning alarm and a couple other small things here and there. What lights, and hub should I get? (I have an iPhone but may switch to an android)

Iv have had the echo dot and I love it works great!!!!!

Excellent presentation. However, you understated the immense value of being able to plug the Echo Dot into a stereo sytem. I have one connected to my in-home system and one connected to my garage/backyard sytem. When I tell Alexa to play Rock 'n' Roll on the everwhere group it is wonderful.

Google Home Mini for me, I don't use any of Amazon's services, I use RU-vid Red/ RU-vid Music. Google is my web browser as well, only makes sense.

One issue: the speaker is downward firing. The microphones are on the top.

Thank you for the video! Very informative! This may be a dumb question but do I have to have a phone in order to use the features on the Google mini? In other words if I buy one for my son who does not have a cell phone yet can I update it with my cell phone but have him use it when my cell phone is not around or connected to it?

Great video and I had both devices but gave the Dot to my gf's mom as she has Prime and I don't. The Dot was really cool and I really liked it prior to me getting the Home mini as a Christmas gift. The Home mini has better sound and is more natural to speak to in my opinion. For this form factor and price, the Home mini is overall what I decided to stick with for now. But I may end up getting the larger Home device for my living room and can then bring the mini to my bedroom for use more as a music device and alarm clock. This video doesn't really exactly portray how much better the mini's sound is vs. the Dot. Maybe go to a Best Buy, Frys, etc. and listen to them both before deciding for yourself.

we have both, but Amazon sooo many more apps in general its better except for asking questions since the google one uses google to search and the alexa uses wikipedia and its not a good reliable source for information.

My question is, I am leaning more toward the google mini for sure but i will be moving to pakistan in the near future. i do have great internet speed there as well. now what kind of a cut down of assistance or features am i looking at when not in north america anymore. also, when google adds texting feature soon to the mini, would there be any need for hardware upgrade, like newer echo getting launched and this one becoming obsolete?!

I have an Echo Dot and I like it a lot but I'm not nearly using as many features with it as I should be, I just today realized that I can't call phone numbers because my old phone is left in the dust, pre-5.0 Android (my new phone arrives tomorrow so I look forward to trying some features I've been missing). I was thinking about some of these devices for family members and I was doing some research into their features to try to determine which one would be better for a particular family member. Your video actually clued me in to several things I didn't know about the Home Mini. On a side note, while I like the Echo Dot a lot, I find myself often quite frustrated by how many answers it can't reply to. It seems to detect speech very well (and it only occasionally goes off due to the TV sound, happens a lot less frequently now than when I first got it), but as you mentioned it does seem significantly more picky as to how you phrase questions compared to what I've seen from the Home Mini. I'm the tech-savvy person in the family so I can tell right away that the Home Mini is probably better for most of them. I'm willing to experiment with the device quite a bit, but most of my family members aren't going to spend a lot of time playing with a home assistant to figure out all of its quirks. I also decided that I'm buying a Home Mini for myself, since it seems like a good product, is only $29 right now, and seems to address some of the problems I have with the Echo Dot. I use Amazon a lot, so I still see reason to keep using the Echo Dot, and I'm thinking that having both, they may actually end up complimenting each other rather nicely. Again, thanks for the excellent comparison video, it helped clear a few things up for me.

Which of the two charges faster? Does Google's have a port to add an aux cord to attach it to other speakers? Also, can the Dot present good sound if the speakers are below? That sounds like a flaw if anything. If someone is strictly getting it for a music companion and to hook up to an alternate speaker for music, which is better? {also the auxiliary cord port would factor in therefore disqualifying Google's if it lacks one}
