Adding a Google My Business cover photo to your listing is a piece of peace, right? Just login to your google my business dashboard, go to photos then add a beautifully crafted cover photo that best represent your business and voilà.
But when you check your listing, you realize your preferred Google my business cover photo is not showing. Instead, some random photo is displaying. And even when you try updating it, nothing changes. Why, and what can you do about it?

Brilliant! Thanks Luc. I was scratching my head on this one for quite a while. A "popular" photo was showing up on a client's GMB listing. Didn't want to remove it for fear of losing some traction it could be getting.

This excellent. A rating of 10/10 does not do justice to the video. How about 20/10? 👍🏆 I followed the instructions and the GMB listing now shows the photo I created. I had the image in Canva, so all I had to do was to resize it. I am most grateful. Simon

Although it uploaded and previewed ok, it just wouldn't actually take the format as a final version. Do you think Google has worked it out or is only available on certain accounts? Hi Zane. It can take up to 24 hours for the images to show so give it a bit more time.

Excellent information thank you Luc. It's interesting, I did have a webpage header set, however this wasn't showing. Google still preferred to use another image. I updated and it and the new image was immediately displayed. Interesting to see if google decides if another image is more relevant over time.

Well I'm just seeing this video, and while I found it quite informative and helpful, it doesn't seem to be working. Perhaps I need to edit my cover photo and try again. I was following other guidelines for uploading the best Google website cover photo but it seems that may conflict with what you're saying to do; especially if getting this photo to show in the sidebar results is the goal (which it is). Like many, I'm growing tired of random photos that I know don't represent my business well (whether Google does or not) and want the photo I choose to be used. I really don't understand why this just isn't the case to begin with. Big tech always thinking they know better than us, perhaps? Either way, thanks for the info. Very informative video!

Hi Curtis. Sadly your google my business listing doesn't belong to you but to Google. The cover photo may change based on what Google think is most appropriate, it's even mentioned in their guidelines. This is why you can't always display what you want. This video is only a work around and unfortunately doesn't work for certain verticals. It sounds like it could be your case :-(

I've noticed that for location based businesses, Google uses the Google map photo of what's at the address used for that business.

log into the account associated with your listing. Search for "my business" on Google. In your main listing panel click on Photos. From there you should be able to delete any image

Do you recommend using a free Google website even though you already have a website? I guess I might, since I want the cover photo to be the one I choose. What was Google's agenda for having free websites? For people who can't afford websites? Does it hurt the ranking of my own website?

Hi Jamil. You are correct. The free google website was launched to help business owners with restricted budget have an online presence. You do not have to publish it to update your profile picture. It won't hurt your ranking if you do

Your videos are extremely helpful! Thank you. One question, the business is 100% verified but pictures are still not getting approved. All within picture guidelines. My wife has a women’s clothing boutique so nothing offensive. Just models in clothes. Not sure what to do.

Hi Brent. It could be that the AI is wrongly identifying the images which would result for them to be flagged as being against the guidelines. Hard to tell without seeing the photos. I would suggest you either try getting in touch with google directly or ask someone at the support community. There are many similar cases to yours already raised. support.google.com/business

Hi. Thanks for your video's. Can you tell us how do you navigate to find the free website in the new "Google business profile" ??? Very frustrating trying to find things which were easily accessible before in the GMB dashboard since Google has decided to switch to search view and no option to revert it back !! Hi Eric. Love your suggestion about making such video. I will get on it today. In the meantime, If you want to edit your website, once you've logged into your account and brought up your profile Click on the edit profile icon. From the pop-up window click on the contact menu link. From there click on the pencil icon next to the website link. You should see an option that says" Your current website is created with Google" click on the button "manage" right under it. It will take you to the backend of your free website where you can make updates.

I think Google has caught up with your hack. I just tried this...with a perfect image sized to spec, and it did not work. There is a point in your video, where after you uploaded, you say you hit save. Where is this save button? Also...really no need to hit 'publish'? I did not hit publish. I tried and thanks...such a pain you know where.

I don't know what adobe spark is. I can only assume Google is compressing the picture automatically which may result in quality loss

For Google my Biz free website, why does the photo continue to delete? I can't get any photo to stay. Not even a picture of myself... Is there a Save button? I can't find one. It stays for a few minutes to 5 minutes then it's gone... Oh I see. They suspended my Profile because I was working on it. They did that to my last site so I deleted it... I am building a new one and they deleted it while I was building it under Suspicious activity! Wow!

Hi, Really informative video. I've got a bit of a problem though. After I enter the Photo gallery & clicked on the photo that needs to be removed.. They do not have a Delete Button , instead they have a Flag sign & this is not helping us (as we have flagged the image a numerous no of times). Could you help me with any other option that can be used to remove the fake image portraying as cover photo. Thank you!

It sounds like the image you are talking about was not posted by yourself (or the account holder) but instead by a random user. This would be why you can't remove it. It will be very difficult to get google to delete it so make sure you use the technique explained in the video to replace it with an image of your choice

Trial and error but It's more the ratio than the dimensions you need to worry about so I'm sure 2121x1192 will also work

Hi Luc, excellent content as always. Question: I have a very good video that I already posted to "videos" on our profile, I have to trim it since it's like 2 minutes long so I have posted like 4 separate videos of it. Do you know any good tricks to upload videos to the "Cover" area? I have tried with a section of this video and even though this one is posted, I cannot upload it as a "cover"... I decided to upload the RU-vid URL of the video to the "Menu" link on the profile...just because I don't see anyplace where to include it. Were not a restaurant, but a dental office. Do you think we will get penalized or traffic would be damaged? Any input would be welcomed on both issues. Thanks

You can't use videos as a cover. Only images. I would also suggest you use a normal menu as opposed to a video. That's what people would want to see.

This didn't work for me, I know it worked for others. What happened with mine, it defaulted to a picture I uploaded and it got 20k views and Google thinks thats the best one to represent me but it's not. I did your website trick, but my uploaded picture was already there, but I uploaded it anyways..... my picture didn't change. So I went into pictures and deleted the pic google thinks it should be my cover photo, and boom, my uploaded picture is there. Fortunately, it was my pic and not a customer's pic, if it was a customer's pic, I assume I wouldn't be able to delete it. Google really sucks sometimes for businesses..... they control too much
