I was watching your nest camera review and very impressed with the camera that I even purchased the whole system. From a security standpoint with this camera, what are the optimal settings for true surveillance? As an example, what should the recording event timer be and settings for cars and such indoor versus outdoor? I am using the system as a wired system. As always, you present your systems and reviews as a professional which is what I am interested in and impressed with. Keep up the great work.
@GeorgeLangabeer

Thank you for that. Very much appreciated. For the most part, I stick with the defaults & they work just fine. I set the cameras to people only & the doorbells to people & packages. I steer clear of the vehicles option unless the person has a secluded property & passing vehicles won’t flood them with alerts.

Th is for this video. Been looking for some WiFi cameras and doorbell for our home. Few of my coworkers have the OG outdoor cams and Nest app and says to look for them since being discontinued but your video helps a lot. I’m starting fresh so not having used the Nest app before I see it this way that I’m not missing anything using Google Home app. How long of an event will the camera record when wired and having nest aware? Can you broadcast footage onto our TV?

Thanks for watching! If you wire the camera & pay for the $12 tier of Nest Aware, you get the full event because it records 24/7. Currently these do cameras are NOT working with Chromecast. I’m hoping Google is working on it. They are viewable on The Nest Hubs however.

I’m guessing you’re talking about the new Doorbell? If so, you can plug it in on the other side of the wall with the proper power supply’s far as 24/7 recording, the doorbell is not capable of that, no matter how it’s powered.
@Levite805
@Levite805 2 года назад
How does it perform in battery mode (not plugged in)? Are the events captured correctly (not skipped or cut-off)?
@GeorgeLangabeer
@GeorgeLangabeer 2 года назад
It’s not perfect, but no worse than any other battery camera. I didn’t have any events skipped, but some were cutoff. I found that it was fine for any event straight out from the camera, but the cutoffs happened when the events were slightly to the side of the camera. But again, that’s pretty typical for a battery camera.

It's me again, hope I'm not bothering you. You've been great answering all my question and I have one more. You mention that the camera connects to other cameras. In your case, you installed the doorbell first and then the Nest camera (battery) connects to the doorbell. So it doesn't connect to the wifi directly? I bought 5 Battery cameras and one floodlight camera (I'm still waiting for them to be delivered. I was planning to connect the floodlight camera first and then mount that close to where I have my WIFI modem. I would then mount the additional cameras around the building. Will all the other cameras connect to the floodlight or will they connect directly to the WIFI modem? Also, I saw another youtube video where the guy said the cameras communicate with each other. Is that true? What sort of communication is going on? I've googled this and couldn't find anything. Sorry for all the question, and thanks again. you've been a lot of help.
@GeorgeLangabeer
@GeorgeLangabeer 2 года назад
They all form their own ‘network’ & connect to each other almost like a mesh system. That’s as far as the ‘communication’ goes. You’ll want to set up all the cameras you can inside near your router first. The floodlight should be last.

I need to get outdoor cameras, and I am trying to do some research but I’m so confused on what brand to go with. I’m also not a tech person at all. Lol. Would you recommend these new Google cams over Arlo? It seems like many cameras are now battery powered. So I would have to physically take down each outdoor camera and charge it every couple of months? Seems like a pain. Years ago at my old house I had Swann but I hated the interface on the App (horrible!), and all the drilling/wires that came along with the installation. But I guess this is where you avoid all of that with the battery option. Also, that anti-theft device is always sold out on Google’s website. Another reason I held off on ordering the cameras. I would rephrase that, “I think it sucks that there isn’t a 4K resolution option”, because 1080p is still pretty clear. So it’s not the resolution that sucks, it’s the fact that there isn’t a higher resolution option that sucks. But I understand where you’re coming from. I wish there was a 4K option as well.

@@GeorgeLangabeer Yeah, you're right, the problem is that don't have the option. Researching I saw that both new doorbell and security cam are not compatible with both Chromecast, so there's no reason to have 4K, since the only devices with 4K you'll be able to use are smartphones, where a HD 1080p will be as good as 4K due the small screen.

The home app just pales in comparison to the Nest app interface, but more importantly the ability to use it on a home PC. There is no google home web interface for the PC like the Nest home has. That has been critical in my past use of the Nest cameras, especially when I had to review footage for the police. I could sit at my PC and analyze the 24/7 video data looking for specific events, even if the camera did not record a motion event. It has been an incredible turn off for me for all the new Nest equipment, and it seems like google really butchered the brand.

I do not have them plugged in and they are outside close to my nest wifi router and no delays on the live view and barely any when I speak via the microphone. For example yesterday in two different occasions I had an amazon and fed-ex deliveries. None of those were picked up.

Yeah, at 9-10 feet you should be fine (especially if you have the internet speed/coverage in that spot). That’s a total bummer. I heard nothing about how they only send the cameras with one short power cable so you over and over talking about having them wired doesn't work without more money out of pocket. Also Google home app has no way of control Nest alarm system and no easy way of putting your home in away mode like in the Nest app so that notification can be easily disabled when at home and when not at home. Mainly because the "detect" away doesn't work half the time. system goes into away mode when I am at home.
@GeorgeLangabeer
@GeorgeLangabeer 2 года назад
1. If you watch the video, I did mention the cables and the price of those cables. So yes, there is a cost to wire the cameras, but it’s well worth the $40. 2. That is true about the Nest alarm system, but Google has discontinued that system and that is why it is not in the Google Home App. 3. The Google Home App does have an easy way to switch from Home/Away. It’s on your Home Screen at the top of the screen. You just press the home/away icon. It’s just as easy as the Nest App. Not sure why you’re having a problem with the “Presence Sensing” feature, I’ve never has a problem with it.

I ordered this and my excitement quickly abated. The entire purpose of this purchase was the smart alerts; facial recognition w/ people, animals and vehicles. After installing it I realized that push alerts were not coming in. After googling it, it seems it has a "cool down period," where if you receive an alert you will not receive another one for 10 mins/ whatever time it needs to cool down. I haven't received an alert for 20 mins walking by the camera. Useless!!! Will be returning.
