my tip if you are on a budget is buy some lessers, big daddy canadas will land in them no problem. silhouettes and shells work great too if you don't have room to carry around a bunch of decoys.
sorry to be offtopic but does someone know of a way to log back into an instagram account?? I was stupid lost the login password. I love any tricks you can give me.
@Kason Kyrie thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out now. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Where i am in Canada I water hunt only for geese and ducks last year I had a good spot and I put out 6 mallards and one goose and spread them out and I had groups of 30 dropping in on me
We get lots of lessers coming into our regular spread. You guys should practice shooting, every clip seemed to be 4 guys shooting and killing one or 2 birds
you can get big flocks of geese with a few dozen decoys. You are gong to need motion to be able for those big flocks to see where your spread is and the best way is with flagging and good calling doesn't hurt.
I'm curious how people find time to scout, then get permission, work a full-time job, church on Sunday then hunt? About all I can do for scouting is try to get permission where I have seen geese in years past and hope no one else is hunting the day I want to.
Trick is to move where they are. Then you see them on occasion going into fields. Another thing you can do is pick a spot where. You are in a pocket, where the ground is higher all around the spread. The goose calls echo and so do geese they naturally go to areas where there honks echo if you notice on most videos there is a basin or rows of trees around where you see birds land this is because the calls echo off these things. Took a while to figure this out.
@@lancerm.7965 yeah lots of times early season I will only use 4 to 6 decoys depending on what I am seeing when scouting late season I use lot more decoys
My dad and I run a dozen silhouettes, a dozen magnum shells and a dozen cackler shells. Plus some mallard dekes. We have had greaters, lessers and cackler all come straight into our spread. We stick with the basic U shape lay out
RmanRiskTaker I’m located in Northern California so we typically shoot aleutian geese. No one makes decoys for them other than Dave smith and I don’t feel like paying almost $600 for a dozen.
I always hunt small spreads cause I am the only one with decks lol. on i cant fit anymore in my Tundra. 18 full bodies and 24 silhouettes. Big Al's sils are dark, Avery very light. I noticed the Averys were shiny into the sun so we removed them. always changing decks when I see how the geese are reacting.Aframe in a cut bean field has been killer our first year with them.
Josh, this vid couldn't have come at a better time! Early season starts here in New Brunswick Canada sept 5. My problem is i only just got my first set of goose deeks for xmas...8 floaters w removable keels for field hunting and im still kinda scared that my i deeks will not be enough but on the other hand i know i will be on the x.......opinion?
if you know your going to be already on the X then you don't have much to worry about. Just make sure your blind or yourself and if anyone is hunting with you are covered real well and happy hunting and be safe.
Craig Mcfadden if you can ask to borrow decoys or have a friend that has decoys come with otherwise check craigslist or Facebook for old outfitters decoys that might be worn down. Most of the worn down ones they get rid of just need the heads reflocked
Craig Mcfadden only put out 7 or buy a extra because I like to stick with odd numbers and then the singles r easier to call in and in Ontario ca it's the 7th of spet
If most birds feeding in a field are a bit Leary and are reacting to flying buy birds with calls their heads are up mostly while standing and most of the birds usually head into wind...must have to me a few tight nit areas with feeding and laying birds
Might not see this, but the biggest thing for small spreads (I currently hunt with just a dozen). Is scout scout scout, be where they want to be at and you'll do great
The nova is way better man. I would spend the extra $100 and get the super nova. It will last you a very very very long time! Probably the best pump gun on the market in my opinion!
Honestly I’d go for a pre 2000 Remington 870. The quality on the newer remingtons has gone way down and there are older Remingtons all over armslist.com
