Prof. Gopi Chand Narang (born on February 11, 1931 in Dukki, Baluchistan) is a theorist, literary critic and scholar whose writings containing the results of a focused critical acumen have helped Urdu literary criticism in getting itself extricated from the narrow confines of orthodoxy and to keep pace with modern times. Prof. Narang has made a seminal contribution in developing an epistemological and theoretical framework of literary evaluation by roping in stylistics, structuralism, post-structuralism and Eastern poetics with remarkable thoroughness and imagination. Prof. Narang writes extensively in Urdu and English with equal felicity and has been consistently working towards a well-defined congruous literary poetics fully alive to the aesthetic sensibility not only of Urdu, but of the entire body Indian literature.
