hello friend, thank you very much for the video, I am watching to buy the gopro 9 black and the only thing that discourages me so far is the number of videos and comments about that in general they overheat too much and turn off, how much is the maximum you have been able to record in a row? (resolution, fps and ambient temperature) I would appreciate it very much if you answered this, thanks in advance :D
I generally record in 1080/30, which has never been a problem except for one time when it was 100F out, it overheated after a half hour in the sun. No overheating issues other than that.
@@pandamenpnx I got 105 minutes or so of continuous recording one time before pulling over to swap batteries. As soon as I got the battery swapped, I hopped on the bike and kept riding for another hour or so. The only issue my 9 has [since replacement, that is] is an intermittent double-exposure thing, where the left half of the screen is slightly darker than the right, and there's a line in the middle where the exposure changes. If you want to see this in action, check out my HyperSmooth 4.0 video.
It's been great except twice it had a "dual exposure" issue where the left and right halves of the screen are slightly different exposures. I have no idea what caused it, but it's done it twice, so I redid the upgrade manually with a fresh download, and we'll see if it comes up again. From my research, it was an issue prior to v1.52 of the firmware, so I don't know what's going on, but it never happened before and I have not been able to download the v1.52 firmware, so if it happens again, I'll reach out to GoPro and also look in my archives to see if I still have the firmware download so I can go back. The touch screen works great now, and power-on functionality is better.
The firmware update didn't work like this for my Hero 9 Black. I downloaded the zip file and then extracted it as recommended. However, the folder named "UPDATE" was not created during the unzipping. Once I put the files on the SD card and turned the Camera on, nothing would happen. So, I then made a folder named "Update" on the SD card, moved the same files into it and put the SD card back into the Camera. Once I turned the camera back on again, it finally started the firmware update. Hope this helps someone else.
Great tip, thanks for sharing! I can't recall a GoPro update not having the UPDATE folder inside of the ZIP file, but just in case, this is a great fix!
I did a sd format on my GP9 and then when I recorded and put it in like I do always into my iMac the icon didnt show up on my desktop and I couldn't open it? what happen? I could do it with my other sd card and I cant figure this out? Can you help?
Sounds like the SD card either didn't format, or it formatted in a way that your Mac cannot read. Did you plug the camera into your Mac, or insert the SD card into your Mac? I would try the other method of file transfer, and if that doesn't work, I'd suggest reformatting the SD card again in the camera and doing a test recording to see if you can transfer the files. Good luck!
Ty for the heads up on the update, I just did mine via the app, but I wasn't able to do it that way last time, your vid would have been really handy then darn it! :D
@@HippoDrones There you go! With all the issues I had with my first Hero 9, I wanted to make sure the firmware upgrade worked. Now I can remember LOL :D
I'm in the market for my very first GoPro. I've just bought a Hero 8 a few days ago but a current offer on the Hero 9 (where it costs the same as the 8) led to me ordering one of them as well. I've not opened the 8 and plan to return it to Amazon for a refund. But I'm reading a lot about the touch screen and freezing issues on the H9. Does everyone who's updated to firmware 1.6 agree that it's fixed the issues? What is the general consensus? It's going to be a luxury for me and I want to be happy with whichever one I keep.
I had issues with an early production Hero 9 freezing up on me - check out these 2 videos I did about it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-R3RM0eMBXl8.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OLsoTWXDPjk.html But the replacement has been fine in over 30 hours of recording. The 1.60 firmware definitely made the touch screen better, and in 2 hours of recording I've done since the update, I have not experienced any issues. I would say use the 9, it's mature enough now. If anyone else cares to share their experience, by all means let us know what has happened.
@@RoadReality Thanks for the prompt and informative reply. I'm encouraged by what you say about it being an issue with early 9s and maybe "teething problems". I'm currently watching your second video. As with 90% of GoPro purchasers, I have visions of doing vlogging (but I'm camera shy), snowboarding (but I can't) and dirt bike racing like in all the clips I've watched. In reality, I'll probably do a timelapse of me building my new shed (yawn) and riding my motorbike.
@@superbracey You're welcome, and may I offer some advice? Just press Record. You've got the camera, so go give it a shot. Pick a topic you're well-versed on, and just talk to the camera about it. Get your feet wet, practice, get more comfortable doing it, and refine your skills. When I started this, my videos were pretty bad. Informative maybe, but not very entertaining. I'd like to think that I've made a lot of progress in less than a year, and editing the videos is time-consuming but a lot of fun! Just go do it, and if you have questions, pose them here or on other relevant videos :D
I'm not sure on that - I was recording in 105F temps yesterday and the Hero 9 was in the sun. It stopped a couple of times due to overheating. There's only so much temperature management the camera can do with no fans in it.
That's a great question! I've never tried that, but I assume it would work. I can't see how it would hurt to try - if the GoPro doesn't like the contents of the card, I think it just won't do the update.
Very occasionally, I'll experience the dual-exposure bug, but it's so rare that I haven't noticed it in months. Other than that, no bugs. Thanks for watching!
@@FirstChannel181 Oooh, that's a tough one. I'd still opt for the 10. It's better out of the box than the 9 was, with better picture quality IMO, but the battery life is not as good [unless you get Enduro batteries, which I've not yet done].
@@RoadReality I feel it smoother in the panel Which is very good for Me. I just want one thing more and Its the chance to change the presets names. Like "Sunny day in pool" 🤣 or something different.
@@RoadReality I found something but I think I have the problem since 1.52... When I charge the gopro by usb from my pc, the red ligth that shows is charging never go off. I have to turn on the go pro to see if it charge to 100%, you have that problem? Or what i am doing wrong.
@@AuraDelDinero Mine does that sometimes, but not all the time. My Hero 8 does it, too. When I disconnect the USB cable, sometimes the rear screen shows the image properly, but there's no overlay for battery info., lens, and the other stuff. Certainly intermittent.
I have a hero 8 it’s brand new. It’s not reading the battery it says “ no batt “ I purchased 2 more factory battery’s from go pro none of them will read I tried this exact method and it’s just been stuck at the update screen flashing for 10 min. Very confused.
Only when it was on the tailgate of my truck, in the sun, and it was about 100F outside. I rode the other day for 1.5 hours in 100F Temps and it never overheated
Try removing the battery and waiting 10-20 seconds to see if that resets it. If it doesn't, you can try the manual process I showed in the video. If that doesn't work, then I suggest reaching out to GoPro's customer service via online chat. Please let me know how it goes for you - I hope the battery trick works!
Version 1.52 of the Hero 9 firmware "made" the camera work with the mic adapter... I think it was a mea culpa from GoPro. Unless you're still experiencing audio issues, in which case I hope it does! Really, GoPro wants everyone who uses an external mic to buy their Media Mod, even though that solution doesn't work with everyone's setup.
@@RoadReality Yeah, my 9 is at V 1.52 and I can record, it just needs me to unplug and plug the 3.5 mm adapter in most times for it to recognize that it is plugged in. Been a real hassle as I lost audio on an entire ride this past weekend at Laconia Bike Week around Governors Island and down into Weirs beach. Not the worst loss I've had though audio wise, just a bummer as I feel as though I was at my most comedic on that ride out of all the rides on that trip.
@@LoneWolferGarage Dude, that SUCKS! I totally get it - my 9 was acting up and I lost several rides' worth of footage before I figured out that thing just had to go back to the mothership. The replacement 9 has been aces for 25+ hours of recording. I thought I read somewhere that the mic adapter should be plugged in fully before starting the Hero 9, which is what I'm pretty sure you're doing. I know with the Media Mod, the Hero 9 has an audio meter displayed on the rear screen - does the ext. mic adapter add the same feature? If it does, it could give you an idea as to whether or not the mic adapter is being recognized. I snap my fingers above the helmet and below the helmet before starting to record, to make sure my 9 is getting the audio from my mic and not its internal mics.
@@RoadReality Sadly the audio meter only comes on with the media mod. I would love for them to update it so the 3.5 mic adapter aslo had that feature as a bit more built in assurance that the mic was picking up audio properly. I may have to just bite the bullet and get the media mod, as it won't really change my setup at all, just didn't want to have to buy another itme to make the external mic work when I have the 3.5 mic adapter already on hand.
@@LoneWolferGarage Wow, what a miss by GoPro! I have to say, if you do any off-bike recording, the Media Mod for the Hero 9 is pretty sweet. It's got a foam windshield, better mics than the in-camera ones, and cold shoes for mounting lights or other mics and stuff. I showed it off in my Hero 9 unboxing/First test videos, if you want to see what it looks like in action.
I never had an audio popping issue, so I cannot confirm whether this firmware fixes it, but it certainly won't hurt. I use an external microphone, so that may help me out. I have recorded for a couple of hours with the firmware and am downloading the footage now. If there's any issues, I will be sure and post a video on it!
@@RoadReality yes i was surprise and its really smooth,i thought it cant be fix anymore. Also the quick capture are improve and you will notice no more lagging experience during swiping, poweron and off. The only problem remaining for is the connection between phone app and my go pro, it sometimes disconnecting
@@amsterdamn9236 I've always had iffy connections between my GoPros and my phone, even if they're close. Not sure what causes it. The improvements ARE nice, I'm glad to see GoPro continuously upgrading their cameras.
After I updated FW 1.6 the rear sceen won't open, and I found out that it happened to many people, already did the manual update more than 5 times still did not work. Is there anyway to fix?
Wow, that sucks! There may be a way to factory reset it through the GoPro app on your phone, but the research I've just done suggests contacting GoPro and getting it replaced under warranty, as it's likely a hardware failure.
How about while installing new update but the application suddenly disconnect while transfering. and when i try to reconnect there is mo more noted about update my go pro 9. Is it fully updated already? Or is it the go pro still updating or continuing even tho the connection is lost to the phone
You're definitely going to want to try the method I used in this video if the phone way didn't connect. I doubt the update actually completed, and wouldn't trust the camera right now. Doing it manually should be able to finish the update process. Please let me know if the manual process works for you - according to GoPro, it should, but it's always better to have actual knowledge to back it up!
@@amsterdamn9236 Interesting, but at the same time, there's no way of telling whether or not it completed the upgrade fully - GoPro could update the version number as any step in the upgrade process, even if it doesn't finish. It's not the way *I* would do it, but they may. Does the camera function properly right now? If it does... it may have actually completed, but if not, best to do the manual process to make sure. I hate it when the cameras malfunction, and take all the steps I can to prevent that.
@@RoadReality yeah it just shown 100 percent done in my phone. But when during installing my phone suddenly lost connect but my go pro kinda seems like continuing installing and said done in my action cam. Im just only curious, but for my observing its totally different now. A lot of good changes now. I thought my touch screen will be this hard to swipe forever. But now its awesome
Sorry to hear that! Version 1.52 and 1.60 both were supposed to allow it - you're not the first person to mention that issue. I think GoPro may have broken the feature with 1.60!
You know, someone else asked, and since I hadn't ever experienced that, I couldn't say if it's fixed or not. I do know that the touch screen works better, and power-on is quicker, so at least they got *something* right.
@@RoadReality Ive had a bunch of them, they all seem to do it, some worse than others.. You cant really use them for anything serious.. The audio and file corruption just rule them out..
@@jjsadv Wow, sorry to hear that. I had one bad Hero 9, which was replaced under warranty and has been fine since. Also, I wouldn't consider what I do to be "serious" ... more fun than anything :D
