GoPro HERO 9 vs Insta360 GO 2! 

As a shy person trying to get into travel blogging, GO2 is where it's at. I just can't point GoPro towards people on the street. I'll probably freeze up before the GoPro does!

For something this small it's amazing how good the quality of the footage is.

Impressed with the quality and stabilization of go 2. Definitely looks value for money.

I'm very disappointed with the gopros. To many bugs and battery issues and now smartphones are getting even better. Honest reviewer!

Great review, thanks Ben. Main complaint with GP is unless they're in bright light their vids look dark. I vlog using a Vivo X50 Pro phone (with built-in gimbal) for simplicity. Will likely upgrade to the new Vivo X60 Pro+ using the main 50MP GN1, 1/1.3″ sensor & f/1.57 ZEISS for low light (on OIS) and for reg vlogging use the wideangle f/2.2 which now has the built-in gimbal. Still need a new small action cam so might give the GO 2 a go as well. Cheers! EDIT to add: VIVO, send Ben an X60 Pro+ so we can see it blow away top flagship phones (at almost half the price;)

I just recently bought a gopro 9. The insta360 go 2 was it's main competitor when choosing and the main reason for buying the gopro was battery life. While you can achieve the same (or even slightly better) battery life with the go 2, while using the charging case that comes with it, i don't want to unmount it every 30 minutes and wait for it to recharge, when i'm not using the case. However, i'm still considering buying the go 2 for situations, where i don't depend on the mounting and the stand built in the case is enough or when i don't need the long battery life of the gopro and maybe want more practical mounting options. I also get the feeling, that accessories for the gopro are quite a bit more expensive. When i turned on the gopro for the first time, i was pretty shocked at how unresponsive and laggy the camera was. However, i installed an update and now it's much, much better. Also you can activate horizon leveling on the gopro, even without the max lens mod, it's just a bit hidden. I'm happy with the gopro i bought, but depending on the needs, the go 2 might be the better option. That's why i still consider buying it, just for the sake of having a choice.

I have been using the original Insta360 Go as my FPV action cam for small (3") drones, and it's been an okay cam, with some annoying quirks. The improvements that I am seeing here in the second generation GO 2 are quite impressive. Looking forward to upgrading mine soon. As far as the Hero 9 goes... well... as far as I am concerned GoPro is going in the wrong direction. After Session 5, they have been cramming more and more features into a larger and larger, heavier and heavier, slower and slower package, without taking the time to stabilize their software.

This channel helped me a while back, crack what to look for in action cam demo shots...road detail in a side by side shot, don't bother looking at houses and stuff, look at the detail of the asphalt.

Filmed something yesterday where I can’t do a redo...went to check the footage, and GoPro missed it because it froze....again. I’m done with GoPro until they fix this freezing issue. They are on the 9 and it still happens. Unacceptable for a $450 camera. Thanks for all your reviews... I’ll be rewatching them to make a decision on what to buy to replace my GoPro.

I’ve had problems with the GoPro freezing since the GoPro hero 3 black. I’ve always been a fan of GoPro regardless , but I am interested in trying out this little beast

We used GoPro 7 a few years ago for an alternative angle for professional TV work, in the end when we started packing I noticed that the GoPro was frozen and we lost all the footage, the same happened on a recording for a live music performance with a different GoPro... I can't believe that they are still releasing products without sorting those bugs out...

I ended up purchasing the GO 2 and a custom skin for it. I wont be using it for very heavy action activities that will be needing the heavy mounts. The included ones should be able to handle it and ive been looking for a small camera that i can have hands free and this is perfect. Your review was very helpful. Thank you.

I purchase the Go 2 today, can't wait to get it in 20 or so days (custom skin) I mainly like it more cause of the portability and self-contained unit with most of the accessories. Also a lot cheaper for what you get out of the box.

great video, I was just about to buy a Hero 9 and in researching alternates I found your video. I want to use the camera for motovlogging, do you know if the Insta 360 has helmet mounting options? Can it just be attached to GoPro helmet mounts (just a clip that glues onto the helmet)? Also I didn't hear you touch on the battery life comparison between the two. Any information on battery life for the insta 360?

They both looked pretty good, I did went with the GoPro cause they had a big sale so for 400 I bought the camera, an extra battery, a battery charge with another battery, the housing and 1 year subscription to GoPro service

3:49 the Insta360 comes out way ahead imo. I mean it maybe needs a bit of color balancing but the amount of details, smoothness and color range is just astonishing.

The Go 2 has horizontal leveling in any angle camera or only wide like the Go Pro ?

With removal of Protune from GoPro's app and the way Hero 9's touch screen doesn't register touches most of the time, the timing of this thing's launch couldn't have been more perfect. Mine is finally arriving tomorrow after being stuck in customs, very excited! I do hope they make it more jello-resistant for FPV, but even without that it seems like a much better everyday action camera than Hero 9. And for the best cinematic shots, I'd still choose Hero 8 or even 6 with ReelSteady over the 9...

Do you think this would be useful capturing footage of me running a marathon? Not the entire run but the start, finish and middle? Wondering about shake and if it will stay magnetized to the chain mount.
