Japanese hockey phenom Aito Iguchi moved to Canada in order to better his skills with stick-handling specialist Pavel Barber. During his time in Vancouver, Aito has to prove that a Japanese player can skate with the competitive Canadians.

Haters will always be there, because they are afraid of pursuing their own aspirations if they even have any. Easy target to pick on since as they said he wouldn't stand out if he was from power house countries like SWE,CA,FIN,RUS etc.

You need to watch some more 11-year-old players. He really wasn't very good even then. Of course, he's 15 right now and Brad Lambert for instance is younger and is playing in top Finnish u20 league scoring at almost PPG, also playing in international Finnish u17 juniors with 8 points in 5 games, while Iguchi is where?

If we spend less time worrying what others think, and more time working, then we can do great things. Aito is a great example of something bigger than himself, and the game of hockey. It's a story about a kid who did everything you weren't supposed to do. Inspiring others along the way. Go get yours, whatever you do.

This is the best video GoPro has made/featured. It doesn't just highlight legit skill, but it highlights a bigger issue: How to support your players/kids when playing any sport. Support them, help them along and be positive towards them. Just because your kid missed the game winning goal doesn't give you the excuse to give your child hell. Just encourage them nothing more.

anyone who says he is not good has no idea what they are talking about. this guy has as much skill as about any great current hockey player when they were 11. I think people forget that this guy has 10 years more or less to develop and grow. that is ample time become an nhl caliber player. he keeps up the work until then, I don't see why he couldn't be the next Johnny geaudreau.
@CyberLama95
@CyberLama95 7 лет назад
Indeed... we don't know how tall and big he will be. Japanese people tend to be quite small and lightweight though, but it might not be so penalizing if he can compensate with an excellent technique. We'll see in the future. :)
@CrimsonSanX

Patrick star exactly. And of course if he has any intention of playing in the nhl he will start lifting to gain some more mass. Look at johnny geaudreau and alex debrincat, they are both small but have a LOT of muscle.
@CyberLama95
@CyberLama95 7 лет назад
It somehow makes me think of Lino Martschini. He's an excellent Swiss hockey player, he skates and handles the puck really well but he's only 168 cm tall and 65 kg... He'll never be drafted because of that but he still does pretty well in the Swiss league (NLA).

He is a good player but we will have to see how he progresses. Some kids are SUPER STARS at a young age but its mostly because they developed there skills fairly quickly and earlier than most kids ther age. When he gets older the skill gap definately gets closer and thats when you can see if he can be a Star player or not. Bottom Line judging young kids before they play at least say High School hockey its very hard to judge what kind of player they can be.

@TheWizardofSolazz
@TheWizardofSolazz 7 лет назад
lobomuerto11 This is gonna be fun Yeah there are very few similarly skilled players his age...and most of them go on to play hockey professionally. no. My point was he has obvious skill but what about when other kids start to grow physically and mature. I know he will too but he is more advanced right now compared to kids his age because we don't hear of other kids with his talent in Canada because he would be in the very good tier. I live in northern NY and seeing 11 year olds do stuff like this is relatively normal. He's Japanese. This makes him different. What's your point? Wait until kids are growing and see if he can play when the speed of the game starts to increase. Could he also keep up physically? Even watching those brick invitational tournaments of current nhl superstars when they were his age, they aren't close to this kid's skill Yes, they are. Let's put him in with the best of Canada's teams in that tourney. Oh wait, he's 11 and that tourney is for 8-10 year olds. Most of those kids in the brick tournies do it in game situations which is a hell of a lot different than doing it against someone not playing defense. Watch this Toews gif gfycat.com/TangibleFairAss He was also 9 1/2... the poke check, the beating the kid to the outside with speed, the cutback, fighting off 2 defenders, staying with the puck and scoring? I see a lot more talent there than competing against some cones. so I guess all we can do it sit and wait. You're right. We haven't seen actual game competition against people of similar skill yet when it starts to matter which is 14+

I played in the NAHL and for a top 20 ACHA D1 team and I have to say this kid is perhaps the one of the most skilled people not even for his age, in general. I see no reason why he cant at least play major junior and on to pro. I played with Saad and Rust in 2007 for the east coast selects they are both 92 age group stanley cup winners and this kid has far more hand skill than both of them, whether or not he understands the positioning and compete aspects of hockey is probably what will determine if he makes it or not. I wish him luck its tough, I was a damned good player and did not make it D1 and a lot of good guys with awesome talent did not make it but I see in this kid dedication and talent so good for him.

No I am pretty realistic man, I have played some good hockey and I am just weighing on how talented this kid is. I am not hating on him far from it, he obviously has pro talent whether or not he understands competition and positioning stuff I could not tell from the video but I think he will at least make it to major junior or NCAA D1. I dont know why you are hating I'm just giving my story man.
@6idangle
@6idangle 7 лет назад
Yes exactly this is my point there are tons of amazing players who do not make it to the high level from a skill aspect for whatever reason so it comes down to getting a break and being consistent as far as competing playing defense etc.

Pavs I see you down in the comments, hope you get a chance to see this but it's its own statement as well. The thing that blows me away about Aito is his work ethic, and his drive to keep bettering himself. He WANTS to put in the time, he WANTS to constantly improve, and even in the small interviews here he's proud but humble, and his laugh is infectious. Amazing player, but even better personality and drive, and that is what will set him apart from anyone who's got a few inches on him. Love the relationship you two have, would love to see more of this

Hey buddy - thanks. I always make a point of telling my students that if they want to be great hockey players, they have to be great people. So he goes to Canada and absolutely dominates. What next? The color of his laces? Good for you Pavel Barber for seeing past all of this and working with him. Keep working, Aito! Ths kid is great and bringing recognition to hockey in Japan! As a military brat I actually grew up there and learned to play hockey in Japan at the age of 5 and onward until I was 10 when I moved back to the states. We practiced Monday through Friday everyday after school for 2 hours. And that was at the squirt/peewee level. Even at that age it was the most disciplined and organized team I ever played for and I now play at the college level. It's funny how people try to put down hockey in Japan but don't know a thing about it, or anyone who played there. On a side note he mentions he's from saitama which is near Tokyo in the south, which is the equivalent of playing hockey in say the American West or south where the sport isn't as prevalent. I grew up playing in northern Honshu and playing teams in Hokkaido where hockey reigns supreme in towns like Tomokomai (which is dubbed the hockey town of Japan) where almost every elementary school has a rink. So I supposed the level of hockey he played down in Tokyo was a little less advanced then say if he played up north like I did. But still I don't see much of a difference in the kids he plays against in his highlights. In general that age group of kids is the same everywhere unless you have someone special like Aito here.
