GoPro Line of the Winter: Jared Dalen - Donner Peak, California 04.24.16 - Snow 

Now THAT's Backcountry Skiing! Imperfect snow, rocks & hazards, problem solving, solo survival. BRAVO!

What most people dont realize is that this hasnt been rehearsed over and over like the other entries. The snow is fresh so he hasnt skied this in at least a day and you cant go all out when doing it the first time. He is be cautious around the ledges and watching his speed. The rocks were hidden so its not his fault he hit them. It sucks, I have gouged mine too. But this is how you ski back country terrain that is unknown. There arnt any plows or employees that maintain and watch for hazards here.

Hitting the unexpected rocks at 1:38 can really kill the mood and flow. Props to you for keeping your tips up and finishing the line! Hoping to see your take on the line again in the future with better overall snow conditions :)

Hah! I am 53. Single forever. Pointless waste of time on that front these days. So I ski all year round. Climbed 4,500 vert two weeks ago to pick my way through cracks and ski one inch fresh on top of blue ice at Baker. Solo. Fantastic! I'll never have this guy's skills but I've got my 77 days on snow so far. skiing is always the best!

Great skiing, very good stamina, extreme focus. This is real backcountry skiing. But i must say, my heart hurt just a little when hitting rocks... i hate that feeling of skis on the rocks. but yea. totally unexpected, good composure, dom enice heavy drops. keep it stoked my dude

He didn't jump the train tunnel! I've been skiing Sugar Bowl my entire life waiting for someone to do that, and I totally thought he was going to, but I got robbed! Dang that would have been cool.

I don’t know about line of the winter... but this is solid backcountry action, and responsible riding. He triggered a sluff avalanche that didn’t go far but might of spooked him.... but hey a lil pizza into a backflip with responsible solo backcountry it was a good run.

Nothing wrong with the line or skiing imo, it's just very bad conditions. Warm heavy wet snow, you can't compare this to someone skiing on soft cold powder

Good improvisation, nice lines, no stupidity. As a watcher I wanted to gun it at 0:49 but then I remembered the camera also sits a bit higher than your eyes so he will see even less of the outcome. Then at 1:26 again but I _immediately_ realized how little snow there was. Which brings me to the last point, holy shit, that's not a lot of snow! Either true dedication or lack of good winters or both hehe. Excellent skiing, fun to watch! PS: Was that a road at the end? Can't make sense of the concrete otherwise.

I'm sorry I love that GoPro does this contest, but being from Tahoe myself this edit or "line" is weak. Backy was sick but line takes way too much time to setup rather than just flowing with the mountains terrain.

I only watch this feel better about how bad at skiing I am 🎿 ⛷
