Had a similar story. Although, mine worked fine for about 3 months. Then a cascade of failure. Including the memory cards coding error. Long story short, it's been almost 3 months trying to get a camera replacement, still not here. I believe it was a software issue as well, they will not accept that answer. Camera is superb, but, crippled by a severe glitch. Sadly
@@RebelScoutmaster no. I spent a month with them on chat tell g the same story over and over. Cards would no read and record. Media mod failed to recognize. It just got worse over about 3 weeks until the camera was unusable. The finally decided to ship it back to them. The Netherlands ?? Really. I have yet to get a replacement and fear with updates it will suffer the same fate.
My Media Mod (9) has more issues than you just explained. I can use the USB-C port for charging but it doesn't always work for data transfer - On my laptop it does, on my desktop it doesn't. When I plug in a lavalier mic to the Mod, it also does not work. The Mod seems to have a mind of its own and sometimes turns the GoPro on when you insert the camera into the Mod. Mysteriously, it woke me up the other night beeping at 2am when it powered off (4 hours after I went to bed after draining the batt).
I have the exact same issue with mine. It has driven me nuts for the past year and a half. I am wanting to switch to the ulanzi cage with the GoPro mic adapter/rode wireless combo. I just wonder if it will have issues as well...
When your hero 10 freezes/bugs, just take out the battery and turn on again. You can program a "wake on power" setting in the gopro labs. The Hero10 has a lot of issues.
I have a gopro 8 and bought a new Media Mod...it worked as it should ONCE! Camera does not recognize the Media Mod now. I have reset the settings at least 3 times...nothing! but the sound recording seems louder than with just the camera speaker. Go figure...when I get thru using this camera for doing some classic car "for sale" videos, it will be gone. The whole system has raised my blood pressure by 60-70 points several times.
Hello, thanks for your video! I have the same problem as well like a lot of people I see. I don't understand how GoPro can't find a solution! At least you can use the media mod by resetting the presets (which is not a solution I agree) but it doesn't work for me neither...😢😢
OMG I can’t believe this. I bought mine like two years ago and I thought it was all me. Same issues. I have been literally trying to fix this issue for two years. I finally got fed up and looked everywhere and came across this video. I’m not sure what to do. I doubt GoPro would warranty after so long so disappointed..
Impossible for me. I'm traveling the world throughout Asia. So I constantly move. How would I order a mic adapter when I don't have a fixed set address. And good luck on a random south east Asia store having that exact mic adapter 😭
Thanks was thinking about getting one. I think it must be used for one specific camera. Saw a video where it was being used for a motor cross gentleman and he had no problem. He was also using a a power pack with it so he could get 5 to 6 hours of video time.. Maybe needing the extra power to work. Again thanks for your vide.
My media worked great until my RU-vid channel started making money. Them the camera failed and GoPro replaced it and immediately after the media mod stopped working just like yours. Im expecting the Small Rig cage and audio adapter this week in hopes of never having these issues again. Plus the media mod cage makes no sense when changing batteries or dealing with heating concerns. Also never transfer data from the camera to the computer with the media mod attached because it overheated the internals of my previous camera. I now remove the mod, then I remove the battery from the GoPro and transfer files that way without issues. I also learned to never charge the battery inside of the GoPro because its not a regulated charging point and will overheat the battery and internals of the camera.🤦
I have 2 media mods on hero 10's one stopped working with the rode mics and i have a battery pack on the usb-c connection. worked a few times then no more.The other mod I'm lucky when they do connect but just never know when it is working till i check the footage. Hero 10's have great ideas but are not reliable.I will never buy another Gopro product. I will be testing out the DJI OSMO 4 ACTION CAM and see how they do.
I have the same issue with my GoProblem 10, my camera doesn’t have warranty but customer service said they would change my new media mod. Anyway I think it’s not an issue of the media mod
This video is sad, but awesome. My issue with the Media Mod is, I start recording and 20 seconds or up to 2 minutes later, it simply freezes. The GoPro freezes and locks up. I have label mic receiver mounted and I have to disassemble all of it and pull the battery to unlock it. I thought it was the SD card, but no...both work fine. I can record and record without the media mod, but once I use it...Frozen. I think I'm just going to wipe my hands and use your links to buy other options to use external sound.
Yeah it was a blessing for them to refund me. I used the mic adapter the other day and if you turn wind reduction off there is no problems. That cage is a bit heavy though.
I just came along this video because I have the same issue. On my channel I made a video about how I had found the perfect set up for me...the Media Mod and the Movo Mic. Worked great for a few months. I don't understand why mine worked for months and then went haywire. Then, out of the blue, no sound in my videos. Made a video about that as well. Noticed the GoPro wasn't always detecting. Sometimes I would have no audio meter but later I found out it actually recorded the sound. I don't understand that. Got in touch with GoPro. Very unimpressed with their customer service. After doing their silly human tricks, and being told they have never heard of this issue (ahem), and they want me to ship mine back so they can replace it. I've sent it. I wish they would send a replacement immediately and then charge if you didn't return yours. I'm going through the same stuff. Also, I was already using the Beta Labs software to get around their errors about using an external battery.
Ugh what a bummer man. I’m sorry to hear your having issues. I’ve got the media mod with my GoPro 8 and it acts up for me sometimes too, not as bad as not detecting it with the camera though 😕. You may be better ahead getting that older audio adapter like you said and avoiding the media mod. When you remove the battery door to use it for media mod it no longer makes the camera waterproof. I’ve thought about that with mine and hope I don’t get caught in a downpour while recording. Great review 👍
My solution was to get my money back and buy the Ulanzi Go pro mount that has the mic adapter built in and the mic adapter. So far that seems to work. Like I said in the video they sent me a totally new camera and a new Media mod, and the issue still occurred. Now I have to deal with popping or crackling in the audio. lol. Good luck sir!
Hi mate, good video, exactly the same problem I have but mine will not recognise the media mod at all, so I bought a new media mod ..still the same…going back and forth with GoPro support but think I will just get a mic adapter and be done with it 👍 Cheers mate
so while watching your video my media mod magically worked. now the next day it doesn't again. tried your trick to rest presets and still wont work. camera is updated to current software. any tips to get it working again?
You may have to do a factory reset to get it to work again. Which means all your settings get wiped out. I ended just sending mine back and getting a refund because it isnt worth the hassle. They should do better than this!
I haven’t heard good things about the Media mod. I don’t remember who it was exactly but I’ve seen others say had same or similar problems when this setup came out. I assumed GoPro had fixed that issue by now.
Not good man but tbh I've been using the MediaMod with my GoPro 10 for a few months and haven't had a single issue. The luck of the draw I guess, bit crap they dragged their feet in allowing you to return it though. Not good, especially from a company such as GoPro!
It sounds like you just had a bad experience. To make a broad statement video saying don't buy this, is absolutely stupid. I have a 12 with a GoPro and it works flawlessly...
Maybe, they sent me a new GoPro, and a new Media mod and the issue was still present. So apparently it’s common but I just want it to work as it should.
