Point of view - Get a look inside the daily routines of danish sports photographer Lars Rønbøg during the 2015 Tour of Denmark cycling stage-race - a GoPro camera is mounted on one of Lars’ DSLR-cameras to get a point of view from the photographers perspective. The still’s are also shown during this behind the scenes video.
Besides the news photography and general coverage of the race I also follow Team Novo Nordisk in this race.
And just to let you know - the GoPro was not turned on all the time - so some of the results (stills) you’ll see during this video there are no footage available.
Tour of Denmark 2015 is Post Danmark Rundt 2015.

Thanks for sharing! Happened to find this only now. This video shows nicely how to combine professional use of camera gear, seasoned anticipation of events, creative observation of details and composition in order to capture significant photos.

Excellent video, thanks so much for creating this! I love the behind the scenes look! With regards to focusing, are you using the center point and recomposing, back-button AF, switching AF points, or something else?
@larsrnbg4161
@larsrnbg4161 7 лет назад
Thanks for the nice words - For the pictures of the riders coming round in the corner - where I'm snapping all the time - I pre-focus...AF is not fast enough because the riders are going to fast. I use almost all kinds of AF - center point and recomposing - but also the the AF points right/left, if this makes more sense in some situations. I used to have the AF on the backbutton ( I presume you meaning the button on the back of the camera-body), but for me I it works better with the AF the normal way.

Amazing video! Thanks for the share. Why were you using the 300mm f4 during the first day and the 400 2.8 the second day? Also, do you get any pushback when photographing these athletes so close with a 24-70? Thanks
@larsrnbg4161
@larsrnbg4161 8 лет назад
+Ryan Robinson I'm happy that you like the video. I borrowed the 300/4 from Nikon on the first two stages and had to give it back to them...;-) It's a very, very nice piece of glass that was perfect for the finishline photos - actually with the 400 you sometimes get too close to the action. I never get any pushback fro the athletes - and I think it's not only because many of them know me but also because they are professionals and are used to photographers in the start/finish area.

I’m watching this video over and over again! Are you planning to publish more cycling video’s? And what’s up with the tape on the lenses? Keep up the good work!
@larsrnbg4161
@larsrnbg4161 5 лет назад
I'm not covering that much cycling anymore so no plans about that...these days mostly football. Tape is so I can recognize my gear when it's spread around in the pressroom...

Hi! Can I ask some question? 1. what accessories and gearsdo you use? (Objectives etc) 2. what settings do you use to capture these fast moments?

@larsm1712
@larsm1712 7 лет назад
Jeg er dybt imponeret over dine evner bag kameraet. En lærerig video. Men hvad er der lige med det tape på glasset; har nu set det både i grønt og rødt?
@larsrnbg4161
@larsrnbg4161 7 лет назад

Do you normally shoot these events in RAW or High JPEG for faster delivery to the wire?
@larsrnbg4161
@larsrnbg4161 8 лет назад
+Eric Tillotson Hi Eric - I shoot both - almost highest JPEG to transmit for the wire - and the RAW for later editing on the Mac. As the only contributors for Getty we deliver our JPEG's directly from the camera and directly into the Getty-site - with just a standard caption and then later we can write a more specified caption with names and what's going on in the picture on the Getty-workflow site
@erictillotson3731
@erictillotson3731 8 лет назад
Lars Rønbøg Perfect thanks, that's what I figured. I've been running out of room so been switching away from shooting both and just shooting High JPG. A couple of times I've wished I shot in RAW but I have a stack of about 10 1TB g-force drives already clogging up my desk just from 2015. Thanks again, great stuff!
@larsrnbg4161
@larsrnbg4161 8 лет назад
+Eric Tillotson I prefer RAW as we often shoot in low light indoor and bad light also. We process all our files in CaptureOne (Phaseone.com) and never have them through Photoshop. The files coming out is amazing - earlier Capture One was very slow and not suitable for news photography but later versions of this software are very fast and suitable also for a news-workflow
@erictillotson3731

+Lars Rønbøg Awesome thanks for your insight, lovely work and keep up the videos it's always great to see other's workflow so to compare to your own. Great framing and eye also, love the variety of shots.

9:10 How could leave such an expensive lens on the ground like that and comfortably go more the 10 meters away from it without fearing that it could get stolen? Yes, you probably didn't buy it yourself, but still ! ,,,, I recently bought a used 70-200 2.8 VR II and when I take it out to shoot I watch it like I watch my own son. All respect to your hard work, sir

Hmm, how UCI give you approve to ride the car? Рow do you overtake the peloton in the narrow streets? For my last 2 tours, I did my shoots from the moto.
@larsrnbg4161
@larsrnbg4161 6 лет назад
It's not the UCI, it's the organization of Tour of DK - and I don't overtake the peloton...just taking shortcuts in order to not making trouble for the riders. (and myself)...
