For me the one major selling point of the Volta is the additional battery life I would get. But as mentioned there many cons to using the Volta as well. I'm still on the fence as to whether I'll order it or not. Great review Suzie, and thanks for sharing.

Thanks for all your great GoPro content. Volta has a 1/4-20 on the bottom that could be used to add an extension tube. That would mean you wouldn't be able to reach the buttons while holding the tube, but for you those buttons aren't particularly of interest to you anyway. Have you reached out to GoPro customer support to see if you can get a replacement Light Mod diffuser? - Full disclosure: I work for GoPro

I dont want to create waves because you do create great informative videos but, how can you review a product without having it or actually using it yourself? I use Gopro's for about 90% of my videos, and shoot in Linear mode almost all the time. I do own the Volta, Shorty and Grande. When the shorty is extended it is only a little longer then the Volta. The Volta also has 1/4 20 thread on the bottom to add an extension if you need to. Some will argue that its not convenient to use an extension because the button would be up towards the camera on the Volta. It would be the same if you were using and extension without the Volta. You still have to hit the record button on the Gopro itself, then extend and get your shot framed. Mabey in a future version they will incorporate some type of extension, but this might make it bigger for your hand to wrap around while trying to hold it, and it would be heavier. If you are using your Gopro in extreme conditions more then likely you are not going to be trying to use the Volta or media mode anyways as this takes away the ability for the Gopro to be weather and water proof, so this is not really an issue. Another thing not really mentioned is that you can use the Volta as a remote control. This gives the ability to place your Gopro a good distance away from you without having to start recording then hurrying up to get to your shot locations, then get back to the Gopro before it uses up a lot of memory. So, I do believe for a content creator/ vlogger, the Volta has many more pros then cons.
You make fair points. There are enough reviews and specs on Volta (and pretty much every tech product) to make an informed decision about it without having used it. We read and watched at least 10 other product reviews and saw these exact observations spelled out there too. Based on the way we use GoPro, not having built in extension is a make or break feature, but not all will agree.
Mini LED panel lights are common and cheap, and often include gels and diffusers. As much as I like GoPro, if and when we decide to get a light we'll probably get one with more features and flexibility. Great review, as always. Thank you!
I like how compact the GoPro Light Mod is and how it fits like a glove on the Media Mod. However, the unreliable diffuser and the fact that the Light Mod can't be used on other cameras limits it usage. We personally prefer LumeCube for our lighting needs.
There is plenty of room for improvement, light mode needs to improve the diffuser, media mode needs to improve easier battery removal, improved microphone and wind protection microphone that falls easily, additionally for media mode make DeadCat, Volta needs improved extension and better tripod....
I'll correct myself. Hi roof churches/buildings, unless 1:1 power on the flash and you know your white balance, no, don't use any lights without diffusing... For paid gigs anyway.
Ive had the hero 7 for years now and i stand by my gopro 7 its been awesome.ive recently baught gopro10 i got it yesterday and today im trying it out for the 1st time so thanks for your video this has helped me a lot.
I’ve had a 10 and a Volta for a week trip in Iceland. The Volta seems buggy in regards to charging and the wired link. I really like the extended battery life. I also think it’s causing issues with Wi-Fi syncing to the Quik app. Not sure why but I can’t get the link established without unplugging the Volta from the camera.
I own the Volta and used it with Hero 10, and 9. Unfortunately, I lost those two cameras. I have used the Volta on My Hero Max. I am still on the wait and see. Will I buy the GP 11? And GoPro is overdue on 360 cam. Thanks for your product reviews.
Suzie, The volta should have a mount that would accept a 1/4 20 screw at the bottom of the Volta. You would be able to extend but that would also make the remote further away from you. Not sure if that helps.
Great video! I am upgrading my Hero 3 lol to the Hero 11 black...going from a chevy Chevette to a Ferrari lol any ways. I just wish the Volta would have been waterproof.

Does it help if you do not use the internal battery in terms of NOT OVERHEATING? It looks like it is the battery that's getting hot causing the overheating.
I am living in china, and it's easily to get the 3rd part of accessories. There's a lot of tripods with the power bank like ulanzi, and it's bigger battery and longer, and is cheaper too. The best way for GoPro 10 is the without the battery to solve the overheating problem. BUT the microphone adapter can not do that~~~
I appreciate your review. For me the lack of an extension pole is the biggest issue. I'm old, and I need the camera a little farther away from me to mask some of my wrinkles! Also, I am now using using a gimbal and an ND filter with my gopro when I want 30 fps footage, and this Volta won't help that either. I agree about the lack of replacement parts. I thought I lost the removeable battery door when I first got my Hero 9 (I later found it), and when I contacted them they didn't sell replacements. Such a small part, easily lost, and no replacement? Makes no sense to me.
I've found that if you contact GoPro support, they will usually send you some replacement part if you damage or lose it. But ghey only do it once. We've lost the Media Mod windscreen twice and now cannot get a replacement because we already got our 1 freebie 🤪
I agree it's short but at least they included a standard camera mount thread on the bottom of the handle. Lots of options from there for height or length. Devoted subscriber. Really enjoy your content.
i used to drive transit bus in milwaukee if your on a bus secure the stroller with the tie down straps or stand behind the stroller it is the drivers responsibility to secure the stroller i'm not judging you just looking out for the little one's safety new sub here love your content .
Good information, but i wanted to know how to connect mic adapter while using volta, as I’m using RODE mic i have to connect with mic adapter but while plugging adapter how to connect volta, please give sugges
I bought this, along with the Creator Kit. While there were some things I liked, I ended up returning it and going back to Sony (ZV-E10). There are so many parts that seem good, but are not very well thought out. Having to get the GoPro out of the Media Mod (itself an exercise in frustration) to get access to the battery and SD card. Needing to get the Media Mod just to get a mic connection. Volta sketchy connection to the GoPro. The “seemed like a good idea, but not very good in practice” Display Mod I also bought. It appears that GoPro has a vision for how this could be, but it is achieved by using all these add-ones, that don’t seem to play happily together.
My internal GP10 battery went to 10% and the camera shut down and would not restart. The volta was connected and 3/4 charged - but it did not power the camera. I pulled the internal battery and the GOP10 did start back up and record. Normal? Thanks!
Hey are you able to initiate a internally scheduled time-lapse with this and keep it running, until it runs out of battery? Normal power banks require a button bush, does Volta need yo be turned on or can it be started automatically without human intervention, when the camera needs power after exhausting the internal battery? Great review. As I've said b4 I'm fairly new to go pro's. If I were to be walking along the beach (super bright) what would you recommend my settings to be to look the best. I've got the max lense but wondered if uv filters on reg lens would be best ? Any feedback is appreciated Thanks again for great informational videos
Volta is a pov, small tripod that is handy, not an extension, when pulling focus, fake drone shots with a monopod etc - Volta would not even be considered. Video light, swap it out for a manfrotto with gels 💪 if it was bought for me, I'd use it. But "short" definitely is not a negative as it's a handle lol. Thanks for the vid :)
I'd keep the media mod and light and ditch the stick. I took your advice from a previous video and purchased a insta360 stick and paired with a spare zhiyun tripod base!
If only someone made a gimbal that came with a tripod, and a built in battery to use with the hero 10 and media mod. Oh wait! Hang on a minute. Doesn’t the crane m3 or inkee falcon plus already do that?
Too bad the Volta doesn't extend. Too bad the media mod alone didn't have better sound. Too bad GoPro 11 doesn't work with my Macbook Pro Intel Core i5...Do I need to buy an external video card for my MacBook? When I converted the files I feel i lost quality.
I am a little disappointed. The Volta does not charge the battery when the GoPro is recording. Is the purpose of the Volta to power the GoPro when the internal battery is completely drained?
My understanding is that the Volta will charge the GoPro or any other device that us plugged into it. It may not charge while filming, but it should when you're not filming.
@@Gemini_Connect For my use, it is more useful if it can charge the battery when recording. If I am recording time lapse or a business meeting that is approx 2 hours, it would be nice to record without interuption.
Yes there is. Just attach a small grip or tripod to it. The Volta is great for eliminating the need for battery changes which is the greatest downside to any small setup. It’s not perfect but it has to compromise where it does pretty well.
I haven't seen a Volta in person or been able to try one out, but just by looking at it, I could tell it would be of no use to me. I share your opinion that it's simply too short. And that essentially makes all the other features pointless. It could have a dozen great uses for me, but if it is too short and not extendable, then all those other features are irrelevant. I've come to the conclusion that GoPro just doesn't get it when it comes to accessory design. They make a great camera, but when it comes to accessories, they don't seem to think anything through. It's like the marketing department came up with the Volta. On paper it sounds great to combine a remote, a battery pack, a grip, and a tripod all in one unit. The marketing blurb practically writes itself. However, the execution is just a jumble and a bit of a mess. I appreciate that they tried, but they still don't seem to know what they're doing. Companies like Ulanzi really think through their products from a practical point of view. They get it right most of the time. But GoPro as a company still seems to really struggle with the simplest accessories.

I LOVE using GoPro for family videos. But I also like having a secondary camera with good zoom capabilities such as our Fujifilm mirrorless camera (X-T3), because it takes better closeup shots. Our latest videos on our travel vlogging channel use a combination of those 2 cameras -- I think it's pretty evident how they complement each other. ru-vid.com
