Sergei is such a delight to watch as a male skater , he is not pushing and pulling on ekaterina as much as I've seen pair skaters today, he was effortlessly graceful and masculine , always be my favorite pair ❤️

They skated as one. He was a beautiful specimen of a man just gorgeous and every way looks demeanor I'm glad in a short life that he had he was able to have the love of his life & live his art & have Daria who is the spitting image of him inside and out.💜🕊
Yes, Sergei was a beautiful specimen of a man. That's a good way to put it. I read in "My Sergei" that Katia said there was "no meanness" in Sergei. He gave love to everyone, his wife and daughter, family, friends and the skating community. So heartbreaking.

This performance is historic. I don't know WHY this was not given a standing ovation. Maybe the audience didn't realize the significance of the final pose. Maybe a European audience might have been more moved. Gordeeva & Grinkov struck several poses that were straight from the sculptures of Rodin. In fact they were sculptures made while Rodin was with his legendary lover Camille Claudel, a relationship that went from bliss to despair sadly. Goordeeva & Grinkov clearly captured the bliss. The love affair between Rodin & Camille was one of the most moving and sad love stories in all of Art History. While some say Camille was a better sculptor than Rodin, he produced some of his best work while he was with her. In short, what Gordeeva and Grinkov produced here is no longer mere figure skating. Figure skating is only the vehicle. This is art on the very highest level. They used skating to create meaning. Breathtaking.
+dwayneparkerUSA I saw it on air in Canada at the time. I was studying fine arts and it was just a few years after Adjani and Depardieu did the Camille Claudel movie. Let me tell you I was speechless. I thought right away that was a masterpiece of it's own. Also the salmon-burgundy combo was quite unusual at the time and thought it was cleaver because his costume had the fresh red clay coloring and hers had the ballet practice type of uniform. The canadian audiance probably didn't stand up because they were under Brasseur and Eisler's transvestite routine just a few minutes before! It was shocking at the time!
i find it not possible to say better. and katya has such a pure and unrotten soul, there's light around her when she states. they were so happy together. and even now, when so many years passed, her eyes are triste, without her sergei.
I was there. The way they skated & looked at each other deeply affected me. That moment in time was sealed for me when Sergei died tragically a few months later in Lake Placid...
I Love those two. The Choreographer got it right: They are the Sculptures come to Life. They brought such Beauty Grace and Passion to this piece. Sergei gave us a Glimpse of Heaven’s Untouched Beauty. Whenever He Lifted Katia, you could see that Glorious Smile on her Beautiful Face. There will Never be another Skating Pair’s Team such as the likes of G&G. Sergei in particular was The Perfect Partner for Katia. The Caliber of this! Magnificent Couple comes along Once in a Lifetime. I’m Grateful it was Ours!.
This performance was exquisite. Their movements are so beautiful and the way he supported Ekaterina always showed in every performance. His artistry matched hers. They take your breath away. It's still hard not to cry watching them skate knowing that Sergei didn't live long after this. There will never be another G&G.❤😓

To this day, G&G are still my favorite pairs team. I’m old enough to remember watching them when they won their first Olympics in 88 I think. She was 16. I found a dance team that I liked - Virtue and Moir - also coached by Zueva. If G&G and Torvill and Dean had skating babies…. Check out V/M 2007 worlds FD to Valse Triste. I think it’s loosely based on Rodin’s Eternal Spring and the 2010 National or Olympic FD in which they skated to Mahler’s 5th Symphony. Tessa Virtue said that Katia reached out to them after they did the Mahler number at the Olympics I think.
The love those two shared was palpable in their performances. When Katia looked at Sergei, you could see the love she had for him in her eyes. You could feel her heart melting in his presence. Such love is very rare indeed.
They were absolutely dreamy when they skated together! The movements & footwork that were synced were as if they were gliding and floating on air. Just Beautiful! There is no pair that skates like them! Will miss seeing her skate with Sergei.
Love them! Magical and so beautiful to watch! Their love for each other is breathtaking. You want them to live on forever 💔 so sad it was not be! Sergei died because his heart condition was over looked. Happy that Katia is happy but so sad that he is not here! Such a wonderful husband and father.

Truly breaks my heart. Just watching 30 years later makes me ball like a baby. It's literally almost tooooo sad to watch and It just doesn't get more beautiful than this. They were the forever the BEST.
Iconic, their lines are exquisite. The lifts are effortless and such striking positions in the air. Even today, pairs cannot match the strength, grace and classical lines that are a part of G&G’s performances.
Ha!!! Ja pamietam jeszcze czasy,kiedy telewizory to byla rzadkość , transmisje to byl SUKCES. kiedy nie bylo muzyki, a skoki tylko pojedyńcze. Sedziowie wychodzi na tafle i po jeżdzie szkolnej sprawdzali rysunki łyzew na tafli i pokazywali na tabliczkach oceny. Potem były skoki podwojne, potem pozwolenie na podklad muzyczny tylko instrumentalny. Sedziowie nie mieli kamer, podgladow. A teraz.. komputery podglady, zatrzymania kamer, muzyka z piosenkami, punkty za poszczególne elementy, komputery. Inna technika jazdy. CZAS SIE ZMIENIA ❤❤❤
They're my forever favorites of ALL Olympic skaters and professional [non hockey] skaters as well. His ability to toss Ekaterina into a triple, provide a soft landing, or confidently balance her on one arm overhead is mesmerizing. Their choreography though amazing-was somehow even more so after they married. Their romance, joyful love story, tenderness, and phenomenal abilities shone through brilliantly. The skate inspired by Auguste Rodin's the "The Kiss" is exceptional but my fav was their program skated to Porgy and Bess-where he kissed her at the end! How lucky were the people in Baltimore. [Over 25 years later-it's still so hard😢to believe that his❤️disease could go so completely? undetected?-as every article mentions Serge's severe untreated high blood pressure.] May Sergei RIP at the feet of our Blessed Lord.
Sergei’s loss broke every heart of every fan of ice skating. It felt criminal when he was taken the way he was. To this day, I still cry watching their programs. They were truly our real life fairy tale. I don’t know how Katia was able to survive it. She has done a beautiful job. Such a strong woman.

The way they continuously change up their hands, first holding each other’s hands this way, then that, then this way, then that. Just watch the way they hold hands together and how they’re always changing them - it’s phenomenal to watch. I don’t know why I never noticed this before. It’s absolutely magical, as is everything these two do together. I couldn’t love another pair more than I do them. They are simply beautiful. Flawless. Magical. Katia’s facial expressions are just precious, as always. One of my all time favorite programs of G & G...💞
They were such a beautiful couple. I remember when he died. My heart absolutely broke for her and Daria. It still hurts today because I believe he was her soulmate.
This is the most artistic, the most inspirational performance of G&G. Everything about it - music, very explicit love story, the idea behind it with Rodin's art theme, the execution with indescribably beautiful body lines and perfect edges, the technical perfection. I have watched it dozens of times.
This is an awesome program. What a wonderful pair they were. I'm still so sad that Sergei was cruelly taken away so soon. They could have skated for a very long time. Rest in peace Sergei. We still miss you and wish you were with us.
Still watching G&G in 2018. This is my favourite performance of theirs. Beautiful. Magical. There'll never be another pairs couple like them. Simply, perfection.
I cry every single time from love, beauty, perfection and sadness. There were many great scaters, but those 2 are more than this. Emotion they have and transfer to everyone... No one can win over them.
Words are just pale and limited when watching their programs. They were not just skaters but also artists. They were always telling. What makes them legends are the emotion, the affection and the communion between them, which are not possessed by most pair skaters.
I loved them when I was young and watched them and no one has ever been as lovely to watch. It makes me sad all over again all these years later and ALL these years later, I've just ordered "My Sergei" Katia's book about their love. I'm finally going to read it. 😔😔😔
a beautiful man. What loss ! there is some huge inequality when we lose someone like him, at such a young age and so talented. Makes you wonder why we exist at all......there is so much cruelty in nature.
Poetry in motion. The beauty of Rachmaninoff's Vocalise, and the perfect choreography based on Rodin's sculptures, skated to perfection by these two beautifully mated people. Most of their programs were classic and romantic, with the exception of a few. They knew their strength.
The only way I can tell you how I feel when I watch these two skate is like when... just after you take a very hot shower and then put on your favorite robe...that feeling you have at that moment is how I feel watching them skate..and how ironic that their love went from bliss to despair just like rodin and camille...heartbreaking....there will never be any skating pair who could ever top this......Never...R.I.P. Absolute perfection. We were fortunate to have Sergei in our midst and lucky that his daughter is able to see something he has left for her to look. They were awesome and there will never be another pairs ice skating.

There are so many beautiful elements to this routine. My most favorite is at 2:54 mark. So intimate, sensual and graceful at the same time. There will never be a pair like G&G. I consider myself blessed to have grown up with their skating.
