Went down to see the progress yesterday 5-24 . Unfortunately we were not able to get as close as we wanted . Parked on a street off of Fort that deadened at the site by the checkpoint buildings. Very impressive project.

That crane sitting on the unfinished bridge has to weigh 200k lbs. Impressive engineering to validate that location for that amount of mass. Then at one point, the crane will grab a 200lb girder and lift it into place.... THE MATH PEOPLE>>>>> Its a beautiful thing.

Great video. However, you are still completely misreading the Order-in-Council. The Ambassador would only need to be demolished if a second span is built adjacent on the Ambassador site. The Order-in-Council is very clearly referring to a second span built by the Maroun company, not the Detroit Windsor Bridge Authority that is building the Gordie Howe. Ever since 9/11, the Canadian government is not comfortable with the idea of having just one bridge. The blockade also showed that having just one bridge is unwise. They've referred to having "redundancy." Since the Marouns said they no longer have plans to build a second bridge, the Order-in-Council is now irrelevant. Thanks to the way the Gordie Howe is linked to the 401 and the E.C. Row Expressway, we can expect traffic on the Ambassador to be reduced to a trickle. It will be that redundant backup. It will be interesting to see if that drastically reduced traffic extends the physical lifespan of the Ambassador though. The big question will be if the Marouns are interested in running a bridge with much lower toll revenue? The other big question is if the truck ferry service continues. Hazardous materials are not allowed on the Ambassador but they will be allowed on the Gordie Howe. An article last year speculated that the ferry could stay operating for awhile as another redundancy. Or for oversized loads that might not fit on the Gordie Howe or the roads leading to it.

I read the description; they just spent the last two years putting a brand new road deck on the AMB-I cant see them tearing that bridge down.

It's bugging the hell out of me! How are they going to be able to cover the cables with the white outer cover? It doesn't appear long enough!

It would have been easier, cheaper, and more efficient to construct another tunnel beneath the river. The Detroit-Windsor tunnel is almost as old as the Ambassador Bridge, and is in perfect shape. Instead the Canadians are putting up this eyesore.

Just another boring concrete bridge tbh. Not as beautiful as the Ambassador and is too far from downtown; what a downgrade, in my opinion.
