Gordon Lightfoot is the quintessential story teller song singer from my youth. The acoustic guitar that he plays is essentially the crux of the cleverness of his talent❤RIP Gordon
Gordon Lightfoot is one of my all time favorites. Ever. Thanks for this, Harri. Brings back so many good old memories from days gone by. Great reaction.
Brandon, I missed two videos this week, and this is one of them. You really chose a great Gordon Lightfoot song. I could listen to him all day. Bravo to you and the delightful Harri.
Fantastic choice! I absolutely love Gordon Lightfoot and had the honor of seeing him live in Boston in the early 70’s. He put on a wonderful show and my best friend and I both had huge crushes on him. We lost an amazing storyteller/composer/guitarist/vocalist last year. He was a wizard on a twelve string guitar. A great humanitarian as well. RIP Gordon. Thanks Harri and Brandon 🌺✌️
Such a great singer/songwriter-thank you for this. Sundown, If You Could Read My Mind, and of course the masterpiece Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald which I only discovered recently was about an actual event! So moving and Gordon is so missed. May he RIP.
This was a great request Brandon and reaction Harri! Anything by Gordon Lightfoot is gold. He was (is) a great story-teller and I loved every album of his. Thanks for this, Harri! PS - Please do us all a favor and react to "Summer Side of Life."
Thanks Brandon for requesting Gordon and this song, in particular. Always enjoy listening to Gordon and his carefully thought out lyrics,. He was a master storyteller, vocalist and musician. Great reaction Harri. R.I.P. Gordon. You are missed. 👏👏🥰🇨🇦🇨🇦
Ah, Gordon Lightfoot! He was an important person in my life for a couple of reasons: first, my late wife and I spent some pleasant evenings sipping wine and listening to Gord on vinyl on the stereo; and second, a shared appreciation for Gord discovered via a RU-vid channel devoted to his music lead to a long distance friendship that has now endured more than 16 years. @@tcanfield Sorry to say that the channel I was speaking of was taken down by its creator after he received a number of copyright strikes. Too bad because he produced some very professional quality videos to accompany the music... RogerC 5/25/24
Ann was a real person. An older woman he became involved with when he was twenty-two, He was in love with her and thought she loved him as they had moved in together. Rather quickly. Then, one morning he found his few belongings sitting near the door. It was time for him to hit the road. Ann explained it was all purely physical for her from the get-go. and that because it was great she'd asked him to move in. She assumed he understood that from the start. That it had nothing to do with emotions. This experience deeply wounded him, impacting how he viewed himself and what was expected of him in future romantic relationships.
@@harlowrioux5790 That's interesting, I had never heard that before. The one thing I did know(at least I think it's true) about the song was the inspiration for the title. Arizona state route 74 runs between Carefree Az. and Wickenberg Az, on the northern outskirts of Phoenix. Apparently he was driving around the area and saw the street sign for this road which the locals have named Carefree Hgwy. and the rest is history.
@@billshooter6033 Yes. He was on tour when he saw the Carefree Highway sign. He wanted to follow it right then and there, but of course, couldn't. He went back, though not too long after. There are a few photos of him hanging out underneath one of the signs.
I don't know if Gordon ever released a subpar song. I remember road tripping in Arizona and seeing the turnoff for Carefree Highway. I had wondered which came first, the highway or the song! Eventually I had either read or watched the documentary about him, that it was during his drinking days and it was about the shame he felt after a drunken one night stand. Truly one of a kind, a master songwriter and all round musician.
The highway came first. It's about 12 miles north of Phoenix, it goes to Carefree, a resort town north of Phoenix. Gordon saw the sign for the exit off I17 while riding ftom Phoenix to Flagstaff and was inspired to write the song.
Summerside Of Life, Apology, Black Day in July, The House That You Live In, Never Too Close, You Are What I Am, Spanish Moss, Oh So Sweet, The Patriots Siong, Cobwebs and Dust, Approaching Lavender, Farewell To Annabelle, If There's a Reason, Ordinary Man, Bossman, A Painter Passing Through, Miguel, HI 'way Songs, Hangdog Hotel Room, Saturday Clothes, Oh So Sweet, I'm Not Supposed to Care, Tatoo, Salute, The Last Time I Saw Her, Affair On 8th Avenue, 10 Degrees and Getting Colder, I Heard You Talking In Your Sleep, Slide on Over, Bend in the Water, Long Thin Dawn, Bells Of the Evening, The List, Circle of Steel, High & Dry, The Circle is Small, Cabaret, Christian Island, Walls, I'll Tag Along, Another Lazy Mornin'..So many great songs other than the usual requests for his 'hits' which are overplayed.
@@micheladonofrio2285 It's frustrating. Even some of his longtime fans don't know some of these songs. They own 'Gord's Gold', Sundown, 'Cold on the Shoulder' and 'Summertime Dream.' Maybe 'Lightfoot!" And these people are much older than me. I mean, so many other artists were in awe of him. Were influenced by him. He helped create the folk pop storyteller genre. Dylan was in awe of him. And Dylan is not known for handing out the compliments. There are photos of Dylan staring at Lightfoot unable to mask that awe. And Lightfoot never really 'got' why he was thought of in such lofty terms by so many. It's as if all this talent flew under the radar throughout much of the world. But again, Lightfoot seemed content regardless, at the end of his life. When asked what he wanted for a legacy he replied: " I want to be remembered for being a good guy. A fair person...I want to be remembered for leaving behind a clean campsite." Me? I want more people to become aware of. and appreciate his vast catalogue of songs that go beyond the hits. Because there are so many gems.
