I think the reason he's so mean to adults is because when they make mistakes it's usually because they're arrogant, but when children make mistakes it's usually a lot more innocent and genuine. Also, he generally amps up the meanness just for the American versions of his shows bc idk Americans like that shit or something. lol
Oh 100%!! I'm a big fan of Gordon, and I have made this exact same argument to many people. When people talk about him being mean or being an asshole / rude. I always say - yea there is some of that, but it isn't so much that he's mean or rude, he is just VERY honest and direct. Which I think comes across as rude to a lot of people. It's a rare trait now a days. I think the best example is the original UK kitchen nightmares - when you go watch those, he is still the same pretty much, but usually when he freaks out, he is totally correct. Also definitely think the american versions of his shows, the producers probably told him to amp up his mean persona. I do think americans like that, it drums up ratings and headlines.
He isn't even a mean person he's a genuine person but he's a world class chef the difference between him with adults on hells kitchen is that their trying to get a job in HIS restaurant they have to keep up to his standards as a world famous chef and in his eyes if a fully trained chef wants to work for him they need to cook like they belong there with him and when your a chef you need to have self displine because of how fast pest and roudy it can get. He's kind to kids because he's a dad and his dad used to be disapproving of his dreams so most likely he sees some of his younger self/kids in them he can see their protenal as future chefs. People don't just invest in business if they don't see protenal in it. Its the same with the kids on the show..
I think his interviews really explained well how he feels about his contestants and what role they play in the way he behaves around them. In Master Chef Junior, he wants to encourage young children to find their passion for cooking and carry it on. He doesn't yell at them or makes them feel like they're not made for the job because he WANTS them to be made for the job. In Master Chef, Gordon is more lenient on his contestants because most of them cook as a hobby, not as a job - but still expects them to know the basics. In Kitchen Nightmares, he talks sense into people who refuse who believe their restaurant isn't just haunted by the ghosts of bad economy, resulting in countless heated arguments because he wants the people that called HIM (not backwards) for help to understand why they fail. In Hell's Kitchen, Gordon expects his contestants to be his equals because they're trained chefs hired to run a real restaurant with real people. He's basically willing to risk the reputation of a restaurant location by letting the contestants join his team, so they have no excuse to fail - understandably, Gordon is really upset if said chefs are incompetent and making the line of work look like clown school.
I’ve noticed he’s ever really mean to the professional chefs. Even the amateur chefs, they’re still learning, it’s a hobby for them. Kids are the same way, even more so. Professional chefs are the ones that should be knowing better for sure
@@SlayerOfTears true, the food needs to be cooked perfectly, plus it's their prefession so they need to know how to cook, as for kids they only do it to have a little success in their life and do it for fun
Hes harsh af to adults but nice to kids lol. Once the clock hits midnight on a kids 18th birthday he's like 11:59 - Goodnight angel you are special.... 12:00- special fucking needs you worthless twat.
for anyone who doesn't know, Christine is a blind chef and did wonderfully throughout her competitions and Gordon gave her the same exact treatment as any other chef in that kitchen, of course helping where needed, and I could tell that Christine really appreciated him treating her like a normal chef in the kitchen.
@@LeafyGrovyle like for no reason , joe just beats you down. Gordon know that they are home cooks and still learning. He’s rude on hells kitchen cuz they are professionals and should already know what they are doing. Joe just be like : this dish is shit and I feel sorry for your pathetic life
@@kvdjrplays7794 I've never watched a season of Masterchef America with Joe tbh, but he was in some seasons of Masterchef Italy and it was almost 90% general angry and brutal reactions both him and the others wich fair, they're adults, but sometimes it was a bit much i think. We got some heartwarming content with every cheff except for Joe, wich had a very few ones. To be fair, one of italian "originals" was Barbieri and he featured also with Masterchef Junior Italy and with the kids he also switched to a much more kinder side. I guess it is Joe that might be a bit of a douchebag.
Gordons a nice person, its when people are being idiots hes not afraid to express it. edit: correction, its not that hes not afraid to express it, its that he takes passion in correcting people
yeah, i realized, he’s very kind, but he doesn’t cushion the blow when it comes to criticizing. he is very passionate about food so i completely understand that
Ramsay is a great guy, he came from the bottom, he had a lot of hardships which is why he hates when people show off and then don't do as they say they will. He sees the kids as future chefs and wants to help them instead of crashing their dreams because he knows they have the potential, he is also a father so he knows how fragile a child's psyche can be.
Gordon isn’t an asshole. He knows there’s a time and a place to yell at people. He’s kind to people when that’s best. He only yells at people when they need a wake-up-call. He’s actually extremely polite and a great person all around. He’s such a good sport too, as evidence by when the kids threw the pie in his face. He knows it’s all for fun, and doesn’t get needlessly angry. What a legend.
He knows that there is times where kids doesnt know what to do and he understands that. He will help them a little but they should carry themselves after, as he hopes.
The last thing you want to do is dissuade future chefs that obviously have passion for the craft. He only yell at adults that see cooking as nothing more as a source of income that lost their passion overtime or got lazy.
The reason he’s nice with kids is because the kids are still learning, and they don’t say they know how to cook. The kids are there to learn and he’s willing to help them become the best they can. Also, the kids have a right to cry and be upset and moody. The reason he is considered “rude” to adults is because the adults pretend that they know how to cook, and the adults aren’t there to learn, the adults are there to compete.
For sure. Kids are willing to admit they mess up and are ashamed when they dont need to be. Adults have no shame and try and act like anything they make is fine to serve and need to be knocked down a level to learn what shame is. They have the ability to serve someone food that could kill them and are trusted to make food. Kids are just kids
Even with adults. If he sees an adult trying, working to improve, and showing they give a shit, Gordon Ramsay is going to show them the respect he feels they deserve. When he feels like the cook is disrespecting the food, it's when he truly loses his shit.
The kids get a small taste of working with Gordon during the Kitchen Takeovers. He doesn't cuss them out, but he is considerably more aggressive than he is here
these kids get a pass because they have no professional background, in hell's kitchen, they are professionals and big mistakes are not acceptable, especially if you have Gordon Ramsay judging you.
A lot of his behavior with kids was inspired by his upbringing. He lived in a pretty aggressive household, so as an adult he's learned how important kindness and gentleness can be for kids when they're still learning. Insulting them and yelling will only crush their spirit, so he stands as a pillar of advice and support for them. He really is a good guy.
@@randomperson8994 Yes, but he's also understanding about limits. On _Hell's Kitchen_ once a guy got upset because Gordon used the name his abusive father called him. Gordon told him he wouldn't use that name again. Bear in mind, this was _Hell's Kitchen_ on which he regularly calls women bitches and cows and men donkeys and idiots, so you know he meant it.
@@abonynge Not to mention that he said several times over that he is harder on contestants in Hell's Kitchen than he is on MasterChef and MasterChef Junior, because in HK, he looks for professional cooks, while in MC he is well-aware that the contestants are hobby-cooks.
He's so good with kids because he wants them to keep dreaming and keep cooking and learning. Adults should know how to cook so they're super tough on them. Children are the future and he knows that harsh criticism on them could crush their hopes.
@@JohnSmith-yi9cp A little competition is good. People might disagree with me on this, but I do think a little bit of competition prepares them for the real word.
Its real sweet and all when hes nice to kids, but like thats expected. When hes trying to calm christinas doubts and hype her up to realize how great she is though, thats something special that brought real tears to my eyes. He knows shes truly got a gift and it shows
I break down in tears every time I see that scene with Christine, especially when it seems like Gordon is on the verge of busting into tears himself! His voice getting all wobbly as he desperately tries to get her to realize that she is far more talented than she gives herself credit for.
He understands that the kids are learning and very impressionable at this young age. He has zero tolerance for adults who call themselves chefs but continuously fail to produce quality food.
I never understand how on Hell's kitchen, they have the same menu and manage to constantly screw up. Youre cooking the same thing, and youre suppose to be cooks. I dint blame Ramsey for flipping out.
Ethan1123Ac agree, and a lot of times these chefs have big egos that get in the way of their progress. So arrogant they refuse the realize they suck. So Ramsay comes in to correct them mentally.
Ethan1123Ac but he should treat adults the same way that he treats kids. I would like him if he did that. If he had the same behavior towards kids when he's on Hell's Kitchen, then he would be in serious trouble for child abuse
Can you imagine Gordon bringing up Christine’s self-esteem like “wow, this apple pie is stunning, visually,” but then goes on to say, “The taste... it’s *_d r e a d f u l._* ”
Can we just take a moment to appreciate how he used multiple senses to describe her pie. Scraping the top to hear it, describing the crisp touch, and smell. All just the ability for him to adapt the usual and mostly visual evaluations he does.
Imagine if he had that whole talk with Christine about not doubting herself and how it looks great and everything and she's crying and all happy and then he takes a bite and is just like "Oh bloody hell this is shit."
in all seriousness though, Gordon is genuinely a nice person. the reason he swears alot and in a way humiliates contestants of hells kitchen and the restaurant staff of kitchen nightmares, is to drive them to the point of where they strive to become better cooks/owners. And despite all the swearing and humiliation, he will support them in anyway he could. He wants people in the culinary world to be successful, making brilliant food and live good lives.
It's simple. Masterchef (all versions): They're just homecooks. They learn how to cook here. Hell's Kitchen: Real chefs who work as chefs in restaurants. They should know what they're doing.
At least these home cooks can *cook*. I don't think anyone bring attention to how bad the food is if I cut into my stake and it mooed I would be terrified. These children don't serve raw food.
We all have to agree that Gordan is legendary. He's funny in that he roasts the shit out of adults, insanely talented in cooking and baking, but also encouraging and supportive to children and tells them what they need to hear. Truly a legend.
Theres always whining about how terrible Ramsey is, but he's really not. He's actually a great guy, and a wonderful father, and he knows how fragile children's self esteem is. He's trying to encourage them to become wonderful chefs from a young age. But for adults, if they're not good at cooking from the start, they're most likely never gonna get good. Adults self esteem is strong. Getting screamed at won't hurt them like it could hurt children. They need more rough encouragement.
He understands that the kids are learning and they won't be perfect because they're kids. They have so much time to improve and giving them the good self esteem and motivation to continue cooking well is what will make them masters as they get older. He loses his patience with adults who call themselves chefs because they should know better than to make stupid mistakes and yelling is their motivation to get it together now.
It’s also the fact, the only time he really screams is when it’s adults that are actually professional cooks who are fucking up really basic things. They should be better, they should know better, which is why he shouts at them
Christine doubted herself a lot because she's blind and didn't have experience with pie making. He saw a lot of potential in her but he needed her to believe in herself like he believed in her. In the end Christine did win that season of Master Chef.
@@isaacdavis1363 yes, she is! I can see why that would confuze you, but she was saying how she thinks it looks because she was really worried about it turning out wrong! Which of course wasn't the case! You can see/ hear Gordon rub the pie crust with the knife as a way of legitimately confirming to her that it was cooked well! I hope this helps!
@@holt4850 because the people in Hell's kitchen are supposed to be professional chefs that worked in the field, the ones on master chef are just home cooks
Willi Wildfang he truly cares, it’s just in hell’s kitchen he has to deal with people who are supposed to be professionals, but can’t follow basic directions.
That pie scene hits hard man. Crazy to think there are people so talented and skilled out there but don't got any confidence in themselves. Just comes to show how blind a person can be to their own abilities when they don't got the confidence to see it.
Meanwhile on the flipside you have people who think they're the greatest chefs in the world making food that tastes like hot steaming crap, and they're unwilling to realize just how bad their food is.
The fact itself that she's disabled and she made something that a lot of people who can see can't do, really says something about Christine's future. Something bright.
I love Gordon and Joe, because they are rude to adults who should know how to cook, but they encourage children to be better, in the best way possible. And that just speaks volumes on how they help mold future Chefs
Knowing what I do about Gordon Ramsay and how he was raised, it makes perfect sense why he's so affectionate and looks out for small kids. As well as why he has no sympathy for adults who should know better or who exploit others. His father was an abusive alcoholic and his mentor as a young chef was apparently, from what I hear, not much better. But now that he's past all that and successful, he's resolved himself not to follow the same path.
He isn't even a mean person he's a genuine person he's a world class chef the difference between him with adults on hells kitchen is that their trying to get a job in HIS restaurant they have to keep up to his standards as a world famous chef and in his eyes if a fully trained chef wants to work for him they need to cook like they belong there with him and when your a chef you need to have self displine because of how fast pest and roudy it can get. Gordon: "The pie? It's visually stunning" Girl: "Thank you chef." Gordon: "You hear that? Not a soggy part all the way through." Girl: " *sobs of joy* " Gordon: "And the flavor..." Girl: " :) " Gordon: "is foOKING RAW!!!!!"
@@lihanesterhuizen2200 I also feel like Hells Kitchen has him intentionally be angry all the time for entertainment purposes. He's not nearly as bad in Hotel Hell and Kitchen Nightmares.
He’s nice to junior chefs and newbies because they’re still learning. He calls the professionals in Hell’s Kitchen “Donuts” because they should know what they’re doing.
@@dracos0024 the winning “contestant” in Hell’s Kitchen goes to Ramsay’s own restaurants as executive chef. They literally represent Ramsay and so he looks for the best of the best and the only way to get that is to push the better chefs as much as he can so they can be as good as possible.
9:47 Gordon to child: ❤️ 'Your mashed potatoes are too salty? let's have a look ❤️ Gordon to adult: 😡 "YOU MAKE THEM TOO SALTY WITH YOUR FUCKING TEARS, MAN UP AND START OVER AGAIN YOU DOUGHNUT!!" 😡
y’all realize it’s because he’s with kids- his father senses were tingling. remember he is a father and he loves his kids. he is nice in general, adults should know better and try their hardest and the best way for someone to understand something is by discipline. he yells their mistakes (the adults he teaches) so they don’t make them again
And even when the adults make mistakes that were out of their hands or because they were self doubting themselves, Gordon will still try and help them.
@Penny for my thot you know that the "idiot sandwich" thing was a sketch on James Cordon show, right? Like, that didn't actually happened on Hell's Kitchen
that's in masterchef season one in about episode 3, when she was having trouble making the layered cake because she said she had no clue how to make it. on season one he's really sweet. he helps up the junior chefs.
Gordon Ramsay complimented HER, not her pie. She was very stressed out and as Gordon said, very negative about herself. She was pushing herself down and to hear one of the world's best cooks say she did well and that she shouldn't talk bad about herself is a huge relief.
He really knows what he’s doing. Kids need affection and kindness to learn, adult sometimes need to learn how to work under pressure to toughen up and become stronger.
One important thing people need to understand about Gordon is that his tone, mood and, to some degree, his standards always adapt to whoever he's talking to, be it professionals, amateurs or children.
JustusLM truer words were never said. He's the hardest on ''professionals" who cook like muppets and lenient when it comes to kids because he knows they have a lot to learn.
JustusLM I think everyone just thinks we’re all angels and that we’re all perfect people who don’t get angry or upset, I mean truly if you say you have never acted like Gordon Ramsay then you’re lying. He’s one of the most realest and relatable celebrities.
Yea he has an amazing read on people. Whether or not they have an ego or emotional problems he can tell right off the bat and give them the privacy and respect they need. Or the hard love that they need to get back in shape. Fucking legend man.
A lot of people seem to filter out the fact that Gordon is a great guy. I mean you see him yell and scream at people. Reason why is because he is Passionate.
RJK He really wants people to do good, but sometimes that means having to bring out the tough guy in him for the stubborn ones. I saw a comment above saying that he adapts to the people he's working and talking to, and it can't be more true.
You guys would make easy victims for psychopaths, justifying bullying and making it a noble quality because of his charisma. Please don't be so fucking naive.
Melissa Smith Nah, you're just a bit ignorant to see how he is. You can't be nice to everyone, especially of they're going to work in a place that requires high quality.
The Totally Not Mysterious Guy "You can't be nice to everyone" yup, a delusional statement brought to you by someone who is enamored with psychopathic behavior.
Melissa Smith Do you realize Gordon Ramsay's reasoning for his harsh behavior? In Hell's Kitchen, people come in for a chance to be a chef in their own restaurant, and if they can't meet up to Gordon's standards, are completely arrogant and incompetent or just flat out can't cook, obviously he's going to be pissed at them. In Kitchen Nightmares, Gordon tries to help people with their failing restaurants and shows incredible anger when he finds things that the staff could never find out themselves. Gordon is someone who tries to make people's dreams come true, and if he can't get through them so they can improve, what other choices does he have than to get angry?
