He only said: "Yes Sir", but could have been my lord. The main chef was supposedly a real tyrant to his employees, but he recognized the talent of Ramsey.
I wish his mom would had told him stop frowning you are going to wrinkle your forehead!! My mother always told us that!! Then again his mom might have and he was too stubborn to listen!! He's a great chef anyway and hot, that man has a body on him!!
Respect? Neither of th an ever served anyone but themselves. Shouting and bullying people into thinking you know if all and becoming your unquestioning slave, is not instilling respect.
@@shuddupeyaface They spent years of their lives serving food to thousands to enjoy. Yes, it is as self-serving as any career. They spent years working for someone else who probably has their arse on the line. Just because you're being shouted at, called an idiot, doesn't mean that you're being bullied. That thought process is truly selfish. Do you know most restaurants generally cannot afford too many mistakes to be made in a night? A H.Chef isn't seeing, say, a few portions of wellington being messed up; they're seeing the potential profit from the night go in the bin. Restaurants are expensive to run. Most people have no idea; particularly young chefs. Most people are ignorant until a memorable incident. That said, in the chef world it was too brutal, it did need to soften up a bit. Was like the army, with less regulations on behaviour of command.
@@ShizuStream no he was afraid he knew if he made one mistakes hes gonna get yelled and cussed at so hard so that fear kept him listening attentively he made gordan cry before so forsure gordan is gonna be afraid to make the same mistake again
@@christiansantamaria7233 this comment clearly tells me you've never experienced a real competitive environment, you don't understand the way of adult life.
@@ShizuStream and your comment tells me that you have been conditioned to being treated poorly “in the name of the craft.” Being yelled at and having pots and pans thrown at you by a superior is never excusable for even the most competitive environments, the only thing it tells me is that Marco is a pathetic human being. That sort of behaviour towards a junior should be automatic grounds for dismissal in the 21st century.
In most professions its normal to reach master level of skills at this age. Because there is the sweetspot between enough experience combined with youthfull reflexes and condition. Later on the always growing experience helps to offset the dwindling of youth. But yeah, Marco was incredible for his age. He already was a master chef long before this footage.
Fun Fact: Marco (the guy teaching Ramsay here) actually got so furious that he made Gordon cry. Despite how calm he seems in this clip, he was as short tempered as Ramsay himself
I see it a lil differently: before all the tv shows, restaurants, michelin stars and cash. Gordon Ramsay was just an average joe who sucked his bosses balls because he needed the money. 😉 just like most people.
What people don't realize is that the reason Gordon is so adamant about finding the lamb sauce is that Marco requested it from him years ago, and he still hasn't located it
He's working for the only guy with higher standards than himself in this clip. Marco Pierre White once made Gordon cry, when asked about it he said "I didn't make Gordon cry. It was his choice to cry." lmao two absolute legends.
Everyone points out how respectful Gordon was but its great to Marco's trust too. He asked a direct question, got a firm answer, and never questioned it even for a moment. They clearly had eachothers complete respect and confidence.
Gordon said in his book that he was scared shitless of Marco. He would be berated until he was in tears and then Marco would say 'He upset himself, he made himself cry'. There was respect but it was out of fear rather than admiration imo.
@@Thatonederesometimes they become synonymous tho, kind of like a stern teacher and student. Reminds me a bit of the dynamic between Miles Teller and J K Simmons in Whiplash
He is a 1% You can see how he is silent, he learns as much as he can, he analyzes everything, he does it with passion. No wonder why he got so much success
1990+ really. First we saw of angry Ramsay on TV was in Boiling Point which was recorded in 98 and aired in 99. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hMcmwCTtMiU.html
Really, to me it looks like he is right in his element, not as loud as we used to see him, but he still focused. Didn't said a word and did the thing he was suppose to without asking, even Pierre asked if they did it twice, meaning Pierre was to focused on the Interview while Gordon was focused on the Ravioli. Trying no to screw up also applies to Pierre, to everyone infact.
@voice of reason do you think he could stand up to him now? I was just remarking on how weird it is to see him bowing his head vs demanding lamb sauce and standing up to Nino. Then again he was younger than I currently am in 2018 in this video. Explains Gordon's slight obsession with a decent lobster ravioli.
@C A L I G U L A I think you might have missed the part where Gordon showed up to one of Marco's weddings with an unannounced camera crew and Marco lost it. It's not like the feud is one sided.
@@maxa1444 It's not that. Idk him personally but unless his fame has gotten to his head if anyone teaches him something he would be just as calm. It's the proper way to learn, also back then as people say he was treated pretty badly so he just became what we see in this video. After he got up on his own feet he just straight up got the courage to speak and to be respected.
Everyone says Gordon is quite in this but he’s always quite and attentive when he’s learning from another chef or in their kitchen, it’s a respect thing.
@@Donnie-sg2cj I mean, I'm pretty sure that the OP is talking about Ramsay having to learn with master chefs before he started raging on other apprentice chefs.
The young Gordon Ramsey used to be a quiet young man, until one day, something clicked. Someone forgot the lamb sauce, and from that point on, he was never the same again.
The anger of not finding the lamb sauce awakened a great anger inside his body, completely consuming him. And since that day, Gordon Ramsay was never the same, the once quiet youngster, now a rage filled man who's destruction can only be calmed by the legendary lamb sauce which can only be found by "the one who cooks with a pure heart".
I remember the people on Hell's Kitchen going "I followed the recipe from my country." and Gordon replying "I've been there, they don't do that." And that's just gold !
Gordon really shows the quality what a good apprentice is. He is always focused and ready. He tries to aid in the process while no getting in the way of his teacher and only speaks if the master is silent or he is asked
Ryan Qahtani Yes. He once said it in and interview. He said something like „I don’t know what I was so mad about, but I yelled at him so hard, he sat in the corner sobbing“
I once knew a former Restauraunt Manager, apparently its really not all that uncommon, its such a stress filled enviroment that staff have to subject themselves to for hours every day that even the best employees will sometimes just emotionally snap under all the pressure that has been building up for months
You can tell in his eyes how he is saving everything into his hard drive. No wonder he got the success he has, the man is of focus, commitment, and sheer fucking will.
He respects his chef and know what his job is. You dont argue until you earned the right to do so. It's what he did and what he demands from his students in return
Gordon has admitted to trying to sabotage Marcos career because of the way he was yelled at and berated in the kitchen once around this time. Seems he took that attitude to heart later in life tho
TheDelethar i dont think thats true. i they they relationship get worse when Gordon came with a TV crew to Marco's wedding, and Marco was quite pissed about it.
This is why Gordon is so hard on restaurants and chefs who are so lazy or cuts corners. He had to do so much to get where he is so he know exactly how much effort it actually takes.
@@notredame3727 I didn't see he yelled at him in the video though. Plus, yelling is part of the process of becoming a better person, so I can't complain.
@@notredame3727 Maybe if you wrote your comment more unambiguously, I would understand what you're attempting to point out. I was a bit confused to what you were referring to.
If you think Gordon is scary in the kitchen, just a fair reminder that the gentleman with the long hair in this video, Marco Pierre Whites, reduced Gordon to tears at least one
You have to appreciate that not even once did he talk back. Always focused and willing to learn/improve. Thats why hes so good and I honestly can understand why he gets so angry with people who just wont listen to advice. He came a long way!!!
Well, he did revenged Marco by stealing the restauran's guest book and blamed it on Marco, which got Marco fired and basically ruined him in the restaurant industry
Gordon has earned his right to be loud with and demand respect from the people he's teaching, because he was already quiet to and respectful to the man that taught him. This is how Craftsmanship is perfected. Not with swearing, but with calmness.
Believe it or not, Gordon had to work off his month’s notice from his previous job before he could leave, and Marco would not allow him to do so, he wanted Gordon to start immediately. So for one month, Gordon had two full time jobs, in two kitchens-day and night shift-and survived on two hours sleep. He is as tough as they come, which goes some way towards explaining why he is so tough on others.
Joel DeJonge -that’s awful. Neoliberal politics eradicated the middle classes starting in the mid 1980’s. These days it’s almost essential to have at least two jobs to keep your head above water. In Gordon’s day, it wasn’t essential, he was just so desperate to work with Marco... but I take your point. Try to stay well in this Covid-19 era!
@@user-mq3yz1ij2o Who said anything about making a noise infront of Marco Pierre White? I clearly said that Gordon was working hard in silence and his success are making the noises (scolding, yelling, cursing).
Gordon yells because he is passionate. He grew up poor, his soccer career ruined due to an injury, so he put his heart and soul into learning the art of cooking. When he travels to different countries, he is respectful, observant, and takes in what he sees. He's constantly learning, constantly improving. So imagine being on that level and then having to deal with people who have inflated egos because all their friends said they make some good spaghetti. That would fire anyone up.
He yells because that’s how it is in « haute cuisine ». He had a lot of his training with old school French chefs and they are super demanding. It’s high stress, suicides happen. It’s not the Pioneer Woman.
Me before knowing Marco: Well he's probably your regular chef. Gordon is so respectful. Me after knowing Marco Pierre White: damn! Massive props to Gordon for not crying. I'd have fainted.
