Exactly, being charged extornionet prices for food is bad enough but then like you say, the staff are being short changed in their salaries, shame on you America. €31 for fish & chips absolutely scandalous

Because unlike other countries where servers and delivery people are on salary, here in USA they get paid in tips

Tipping is our custom in the US. We don't have to explain or justify it for you. No country has to explain or justify their customs for any foreigner. Do you understand, you complete and total twat?

@@nicknugent4034 if a wait ress brings over two or three plates it doesn't matter if it cost $5 or it cost $500. It's a plate. Why should I tip them more for bringing over the same plate? It's the same job. Get it 😆 it's not my problem that the restaurant charges a crazy price for food.

@@michaelcampin1464 yeah Norway is expensive. Mostly down to tax. The US hasn’t the same tax levy on alcohol. But my main gripe is then to have to top up wages with tips. Pay staff a decent wage.

Agree, owner is making profit on those menu prices and paying the staff peanuts, I bet the wait and kitchen staff don't get the gratuities on the bill, not all anyway.

What really annoys me is that tipping is almost at the point where it is mandatory. My wife and I dine out frequently, in any establishment that adds their " discretionary gratuity / service charge " I have it removed from the bill. I'm perfectly satisfied ( for the most part ) to pay the high prices in most of these establishments but I totally refuse to subsidize their staff's wages. With good service I always leave at least 15% and in many instances more than that. I would tend to agree with you regarding what servers get paid. Let's be realistic most servers between wages and shared tips enjoy a reasonable wage ,, if they didn't restaurants would have no serving staff. Our neighbour's Grand daughter works full time at an upscale fast food restaurant here in Canada she earns the statutory wage ( $15.20 ) per hour plus she averages $ 350.00 per week in tips. I would suggest that a weekly wage of around $ 960.00 is reasonable ,, very reasonable.

Vegas hasn’t been cheap since the ‘70s and ‘80s when it was mostly buffets. I think one could do better in Vegas other than Gordon Ramsay. Why pay haute cuisine prices for hamburgers when you could get real haute cuisine at other restaurants?

Depends on where you go. Been going to the USA since 1989, it's as cheap or expensive as you want.

Some of the prices back on Long Island were great value for decent food. Its the tourist traps on the strip in Vegas that are rip offs. Id like to see them find spots away from the tourist areas out in the suburbs. Im looking forward to seeing the BBQ steaks or brisket as big as a plate that the yanks are famous for. Search for a Franklin's.

That's my fear too Scott... I've seen these Hidden Camera TV Shows... Like Mystery Diners... Where they have covert cameras covering the whole building... (Including the kitchen)... And sometimes the staffs actions are (At best) unprofessional... And at other times their actions are criminal... Simply by them interfering with a customers food or drink. (Including bodily fluids) That's why i like establishments with open kitchens... Where the food is prepared in front of the customers. (Just like the TV Show Hell's Kitchen). 👍
