I learned two very important things watching this video. 1) Gordon Ryan is an absolute badass. 2) Some rando chick didn't like the way her nails were done.
I had to mute whole fight. I couldn't stand this constant babbling. Now I could write something about stereotypical woman behavior , but then I will be accused about being misogynist.
Costly mistake to turn your back from mount just enough that Ryan grabs the neck. Doesnt take much man at this level. I think Kaynan was more worried about the 4 points than anything else. What a great match. Theses 2 might be the 2 best in the world right now. Kaynan gave Ryan one of his toughest matches for sure.
Yeah giving up the sub was the same as giving up the 6 points at that point, which were basically guaranteed since Gordon landed in such a stable position. He had no other options.
The reason why the match was this close was that ibjjf rules at the time did not allow heelhooks or knee ripping... Or otherwise, it would be one sided if Kaynan did not stall the fight...
Great match. but the score keeper bench needs to catch up. Referee also. @9:26 looks like Ryan got full mount, then possibly full back take, just before sub?
It's possible that they are both taking some 'supplements', but to be honest neither of their physiques looked like they can't be gained naturally. So it's also possible that neither of them take any illegal supplements.
@@adamabbas1487 They're definitely using, Gordon's admitted to it indirectly.multiple times and Kaynan you just know he is just like everyone else at his gym
When I saw Kaynan 2 years ago at a tournament, I knew he would become a multi time world champion with and without the gi. The level of intelligence ,power and precision was too apparent. It's starting now, but I believe we are witnessing the level of Buchecha, Lo and KC but in 2 as good in both sports. He made 1 error ,mind you a big error, but it cost him a RNC loss...the best in the world. I'll be surprised if he stays at the Atos cult. I hear the koolaid is very bitter there. OSSSS!
@The All Power Team the best in no gi but average in the gi, therefore an incomplete jiu-jitsu practitioner. But undoubtedly will be known in 10-15 years as the best no gi athlete of all time...imo.
So he should've gotten at least 1 more sweep no? I feel like him getting out of the back attack then getting top position was worth 2 points and after the leg lock exchange, suspicious reffing for sure or I'm just not too familiar with the rules
Wasnt that a sweep ryan got just before 6 minutes in, duarte got an advantage in that exchange but didnt establish the pass or back take and ended up on bottom
First I have to admit that I don't know if the rules differ from IBJJF. If they don't differ then he was just trying to create a scramble and avoid giving him point for pass/mount.
Well he knew he was going to loose if ryan was awarded the points for passing the guard so he had to act fast, he wanted to turn to his left, push the leg and hold it and then turn back to his right, hed have ryan in half guard and would have won (maybe), he was able to turn left and push the leg but got caught in the RNC in the process, you can even see ryan didnt have both hooks in, but was able to secure them at the end and got the tap, he had to take the risk or he was going to loose either way!
It looks like he trying some sort of arm drag with Gordon's left arm, which he had to try for so desperately as Gordon could have just played it safe for the rest of the match at that point and won. Either they aren't updating the score in real time, or the judges didn't give Gordon the mount or back points since he didn't have put both hooks in(?) but he was ahead of Duarte on points or the advantage at that stage in the match.
When not even the girlfriends or mom's wanna show up.... it's not "them", it's you.... "But, but, you don't understand the nuances and intricate chess work" doesn't help sell this sport. People who practice it can't sit thru, no way you can ever hope to get casual sports viewers needed. I could convince friends to watch basketball, handball and rugby who didn't follow the sport. I could never convince a non-grappler to go watch a competition. Judo realized this 30 yrs ago. People complained but the numbers don't lie, full Grand Prix, marquee events like Bercy, tv deals and the year the world's were in Astana, tv numbers were at 200 mil worldwide. You many not like where the sport went direction but making the sport more palatable is EXACTLY how wrestling was saved from being kicked out if Olympics. That legendary world wrestling congress in Moscow saw them change rules and athlete representation in effort to do something about the empty wrestling venues at the games. They were facing dismissal from games because If you have a sport in the games but fans aren't interested in attending, you HAVE to do something to make the sport more interesting. You can't hide behind "you don't understand the nuances".
The reason why the match was this close was that ibjjf rules at the time did not allow heelhooks or knee ripping... Or otherwise, it would be one sided if Kaynan did not stall the fight...
I think that Kaynan is the only person that can legitimately beat Gordon with actual BJJ (as opposed to anti-jiujitsu that Pedro Marinho plays often to victory). I still give the edge to the King, but I think out of 100 matches, Kanyan will have a far higher number of wins against Gordon than anyone else on the current circuit.
Does the guy just try to roll out at 9:28 thinking Gordon wouldn't be quick enough to grab him around the neck? I mean he turned his body all the way to his left right INTO Gordon's right arm. It's like being in a gunfight and deciding to run instead towards a door in the direct line of enemy bullets, kinda high risk maneuver.
I think that he didn't score the takedown, because he didn't establish control after it. The guard pass because one of his legs was caught between the opponent legs, it was free for a second, but it has to be 3 seconds. Ones again I think.
For a toehold it's not enough to have the grip, You also need your legs to be in position to pin your opponent pelvis. In this case, in order to get his legs to the right position, Duarte had to shift his pelvis - impossible move considering Ryan's position
Funny thing...I was so into the fight that I literally had to go back and re-listen to hear the women talking 😂 I heard the Brazilian coaches/team but not a single women
6.50min - Should of kept going with the toe hold until you break Gordon's foot and come away with the win. Next time OK Duarte do as I say. I still rate you as one of Gordon's toughest opponent.
Also, looks like kaynan gave up just about at that point in the match. No hip movement to defend mount then gives his back, while he was ahead on points? Good match anyhow.
9:35 That should never be considered a guard. Kaynan coudn't do anything against a back attack, only with Ryan's foot inside his thighs. This rule should change
