Talks between Newcastle and Liverpool over the potential sale of Anthony Gordon did not progress because Jarell Quansah would have been part of the deal.
Liverpool are understood to admire Gordon, but see Quansah as a big part of their future having established himself as a first team regular.
The club also have strength in depth in attacking positions and see him as future England regular.
Several clubs are under pressure to comply with the Premier League’s PSR regulations, before tomorrow’s deadline.

Konate was Virg’s best partner. Quansah’s mistake against United cost us, that was Klopp’s fault. He played Konate the whole game in the Europa 3 days before that clash at United and ultimately cost us.

Quansah is good, no doubt. But he is nowhere near Konate level. Konate had no high profile mistakes. Performances are usually determined wholly by the team performance - I don’t remember Konate having a stinker at all or being at fault for goals. Virgil had a couple of stinkers. I want Quansah to stay but the disrespect to Konate is wild. If Konate leave Liverpool he goes straight to Madrid - you can’t say that about Quansah, yet.

I agree. But’s that’s to be expected from young inexperienced defenders (Quansah 21). Yet people praise Konate (25) when he too is inconsistent and is injury prone.

No doubt Diaz is better but it’s more about building squad depth in case of an injury to Diaz, suspension, absence for whatever reason or just the manager needing to rotate his squad for cup games for example.

Nah Gordon is better even as a lfc fan. Gordon had better season than Diaz. Gordon won 5 penalties in pl this season and has 22 goals and assists in the league compared to Diaz winning 1 penalty and had 13 goals and assists

@@dlamini77 Gordon’s finishing is better and Diaz dribbling does not lead to anything so Gordon is better in that aspect as well, I’ve never seen Diaz put in a good cross after a dribble to beat a player on the wing the only thing lucho is better than Gordon is cutting across with directness and providing a pass to the right winger ie Salah, and moving the ball along when we want to keep hold of it and probably cutting in and taking a shot from long range which is still questionable because he does it well but very rarely If we want to be serial winners we have to stop being sentimental to certain players because they bring a bit of flair or they play exciting football

I don’t think slot fully has say in what player he wants albeit slightly less because Michael Edward’s and his team present the player to slot and slot then agrees so he does have a say but not like he picks them out also slot could notify the board of a player then they will do a analysis on him if he fits the criteria they’re looking for then they can sign him Correct me if I’m wrong

@@MrAbi123 Hard to say. I know under Klopp Jota, VVD, Allison and Mane were scouted by Klopp and Pepijn Lijnders specifically. As with all these things it depends. For example, Salah wasn't a Klopp recommendation (Pepijn Lijnders and his scouting team had to give Klopp the hard sell).

Newcastle approached Liverpool with proposal not the other way round and dropped interest as 1. Quansah isn't for sale and 2. They don't value Gordon at a £100m - Liverpool have plenty of players in Gordon's position, they'd only be interested if the price was right

⁠@@junioradult6219 Liverpool overpaid for Diaz back in 2022 (45M plus 15M add ons) as he had 3 years with Porto 77 appearances and 26 goals🫤with only one break out season. That one good season led to Liverpool acquiring him underwhelming to say the least. Currently with Liverpool he has 2 years 16 goals in 67 appearances which is not good enough in my opinion, granted he’s dealt with injuries that have kept him sidelined for long periods of time but again given what they paid and what they expect from him that’s no where near good enough. As a winger he should be scoring a lot more goals.

I have also heard that Gordon isn't really seeking to move, but that Curtis Jones is in fact his best friend in football. I seriously doubt that this transfer will ever happen. Is it actually true that it was ever really considered ? Makes no sense from Liverpool perspective, we have Diaz and Gapka options for the left, Gordon's good but is he much better? Centre back we need to strengthen with Matip gone and VVD ageing so no-one would have considered for a second releasing young Quansah for a player we don't need. A jumped up story.

Diaz sucks. Doesn’t score or contribute all he has to give is a lot of flashiness and nothing more (that’s probably why these stories or “jump stories” started) because Liverpool are trying to look for someone who will do more, Gordon is not the answer though. Gakpo is a natural left wing forward but could be doing better. I’m not surprised that Liverpool are looking for another winger given that Jota is injury prone Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratshelia name’s was momentarily being thrown around.
