I just bought one of their flex nibs at the DC pen show and I really like it. Not sure why they aren’t more popular. Still need to break it in a bit to get where their tester is, but I really enjoy it! Good review, holds up!
Oh good to hear you've had one for a while and enjoy it. Seems like they've cracked the nut on transforming a fountain pen also into a useable super flexer
I was just playing around with my Osprey pen this morning. These things work pretty well. I got a simple blue one just to test it out. I’m going to have to get another one with a better acrylic and some more nib options.
Got my milano gnib option and I’m in love it. Been playing with jinhao gnib hack pen for a while and was annoyed by having to prime it everytime I use it. This pen, as soon as I pick it up and put it to paper it’s good to go!!
Good to hear! Mine was the same as well. Seems like they've solved the Zebra G nib to fountain pen conversion we've all been waiting for! Makes me want to practice calligraphy
Those are things to do after the fact, but a slight change to part design in the front end would eliminate the need for extra assembly steps or additional parts.
I was pretty excited they gave me a coupon code too! Surprised they contacted me to do this VS others which huge followings. I really want to try out that Phosbronze nib! Looks very interesting and have never heard of it before.
Nice to have a pen that offers this many options. I just have a major issue with the screw to post on the barrel. The barrel is already long enough to not need posting.
Sometimes I post sometimes I don't. Both feel comfortable for me. First time with a screw to post cap. Thought it would bother me, but not at all. They have other pens that aren't screw to post.
Huh. Never considered that advantage for a silver colored car. Get a nice backdrop for glamour shots. Looks beautiful! The pen I mean. And the silver background.
Well this is a bit backwards. Took your advice for an Osprey flex nib (just from the comment reply). Couldn’t be happier. Then discovered this review 🤫🤔
Thanks Doodlebud. But the Zebra G is like writing with a hypodermic needle. For my money, the Fountain Pen Revolution Ultra Flex nib with ebonite feed is the best modern flex out there. Hands down. Wonder if it would fit in this pen?
Untipped is definitely a completely different writing experience. Takes time to get used to. Mega line variation with whisper thin cross strokes, but smoothness is sacraficed
I just order the brownish Milano, the black Scholar with the goofy phosbronze nib, and a BB architect nib unit. And THEN I watched your video with the discount code… 😂
Very nice pen. I was planning to get one after your review, but I just ordered the Faber Castell E Motion Pure Black. Guess I'll have to go ahead and order this one a bit later. 😂
@@Doodlebud the Faber Castell came in today! Wow is it nicer than I thought it would be. It's heavy, but the balance is so good that it doesn't bother me. Very nice M nib as well.
Nice pen and setup! Beautiful and versatile tool för writing! Only itch that the CNC programmers and the clip smiths weren't on the same page regarding measurements. From the video it looks as the well in the cap, for the clip ring, is a little bit too deep to fit the exact thickness of the clip ring. If so, the brave hearted might like to put an abrasive sheet on their desk, coarse side up, and ever so gently move the end of the barrel over it , gripping it as low as possible, and frequently checking the result, until the relative depth of the well is exactly right, and even around the circumference. A less irreversibel fix would be increasing the thickness of the clip ring by for example repeated dipping in shellac (every pen enthusiast should have some in their drawer at all times, don't you think :-) letting it cure over night between dips. Surplus shellac around the edges is easy to wipe off with a cloth slightly dampened with pure ethanol. I used the first method on a couple of Noodlers Konrads, and the second one on a vintage Matador. Worked perfectly.
Yeah the bore has to be deep enough to fit the clip & be able to make assembly simple. It's tough to get all parts exact. Have to account for part tolerances. None of these are "precision" parts. So to make the parts economical to produce, within tolerance, and easy to assemble sometimes slight design revisions can be made which don't slow down production time or drastically increase cost. Always a balancing act during manufacturing/production. Can make anything super precise with very close fitments, but comes at a price.
@@Doodlebud My FPR Triveni Junior in ebonite is the pen that impressed me the most, with exact threading and fit of the clip. The clip design appears on many FPR pens, so they might even have designed the pen around the clip! The Osprey folks made an entirely new pen which is impressive. And they will go on with increasing success , and reach perfection soon I think.
That would work. However in manufacturing its best to have fewer parts which require extra assembly steps & could also be damaged/lost by a user. Good option for making a few units, but not the best when you make 500+
For some reason, the base of the barrel looks like a missing blind cap. Congratulations on having your own discount code. I hope that more fountain pen companies will be contacting you soon.
@@Doodlebud ”Champagne should be 1. Dry 2. Well chilled. 3. For free.” Attributed to Churchill, true or not. A fountain pen should be: 1. Well engineered. 2. Gorgeous. 3. For free 😁
Ahhh, I wonder how much it is to the UK. When I order from the UK to Canada its not too bad, unless its very expensive it seems to fly under the duty radar. But seems to depend on the shipping company used.
Yeah I just got hit by FedEx on an order from the US. Didn't mind having to pax the tax, but they charge an extra $10 "Admin fee" because they pay the tax for me then ask me to pay them back. Just additional mindless fee they charge consumers since FedEx isn't crushing it enough as a global logistics juggernaut! 😡
@@Doodlebud it's supposed to be my first AND last vintage fountain pen, and therefore also my LAST venture into flex nibs... I won't be able to report back if, in 6 months, I'm broke and homeless living in a box with a stack of Tomoe River books, clutching onto a 40-pen case filled with vintage flex pens. Have you had a chance to compare this to the BlueDew?
@@nauci well you'll be the hobo asking for spare change holding the most spectacular sign written with a flex nib! Be sure to use waterproof ink so it doesn't run in the rain ☔. Haven't used the blue dew yet.
O ring works, but adds another part & assembly step to the pen. Also another part to get lost during disassembly/assembly. O-rings are great for providing a seal, and in this case a seal isn't required.
