I almost wonder if the baby with the weird pattern is a chimera; an egg with two embryos that fused early in development and retained their respective patterns, leading to the offset stripes.

actually same, I even went to a reptile expo and held a corn snake and fell in love with it, I even wanted to adopt it but I knew that even though I was ‘somewhat educated’ on how to keep them (since watching snake discovery, I have been doing intense research on tons of reptiles and their care, bc of personal interests so that led to an interest in corn snakes and wanting to get one) but I knew ultimately it would of been an impulse buy and I did not have an enclosure setup or any reputable feeder resources around me that I knew of so I knew that the responsible thing was to not get the little guy. I did hold him for quite a bit, I kind of hogged the poor woman’s station while I was holding him lol. I do feel bad about that but he was just such a sweet little snake, and so calm. Just a precious little thing, I did say that if I would have gotten him, his name would have been ‘Riddle’. I hope that his eventual owner gave him just as rad as a name as that lol

At least tri colours grow and become breeding adults relatively fast compared to other snakes because I can barely wait!
@redactedunknownclowngod2875
Hey, quick question! So the mother has a small section on the lower half of her body that also has asymmetry, and I really want to believe that since one of her kids got an even longer section of asymmetrically colored scales that it'll keep going. Here's the question: If the asymmetry became exaggerated enough, would it become it's own morph one day? How cool would it be if it kept getting more and more extreme with each generation (and you should totally keep us updated!)
@redactedunknownclowngod2875
p. s. what would be cooler a trait to always pass on to some of the new babies: a gene that makes them stay tricolor in adulthood, or hogs that have asymmetric patterns?

Since the 1st shenanigans video where the tricolor daddy(? followed itself to breed... I've been looking forward to see his babies and they didn't disappoint me. I'm in love with their defense mechanism of rattling their tail and sort of volting for a second into a new position, rattling their tail and starting the process all over again. They're cute and hilarious at the same time. It's such a shame they don't live as long but they make up for it by laying eggs 1 to 4 times a year. Even though it might seem repetitive, I'd love to see each clutch hatching, it seems like each baby has their own personality.

My first thought with the checkerboard one was, could it be a chimera aka completly fused with it's own twin down the middle? (That is more common in cats) But the mother has one little patch of pattern near the end of the tail that makes it seem like a genetic trait passed down from her and the little one has just a reaaaaly high expression of it.

I'm sad. It seems like so many babys passed away this year. Quite a few that may have survived if their eggs were cut sooner. 💔 I hope Snake Discovery comes up with a plan next year that could prevent it (maybe?). Sucks how working with live animals is often trial and error 😕 Cute babies though! Excited for the other babies to hatch! I know Emily and Ed want the best for the babies! 🙂

Hi Ed and Emily, I really love and appreciate your content and have been so excited for any remaining hatching videos. One thing is that the term 'spaz' or spastic is a very ableist slur (0.27) and while I appreciate this is less well known outside the UK, I wanted to let you know that you were using a harmful term

0:32 for what it's worth, "spaz" is a pretty damn bad slur

Just wanted to say I am a little sad by how long you’ve been letting the eggs sit un-cut this hatching season. I know it’s usually due to business or being out of town but you guys used to only wait *24 Hours*. Where as This year you’ve had up to a week where you didn’t help. This has led to a lot of babies dying in the eggs which is really hard to see. As you say these are pets and natural selection over an egg tooth, which may have not formed properly is something you usually don’t do. It kinda sucks this has become the reality vs before it was the babies came first and giving them the help to get out of the egg, or at least the chance to. I still love these videos tho. 🥲
