Gorillas are the largest primates, native to the forests of central Sub-Saharan Africa. There are two species, the eastern gorilla and the western gorilla, each with distinct subspecies. Gorillas have a robust build, with broad chests, long arms, and thick, dark fur. They are primarily herbivorous, feeding on leaves, stems, fruit, and bamboo.
Living in social groups called troops, led by a dominant silverback male, gorillas exhibit complex social behaviors and communication through vocalizations, gestures, and facial expressions. They are mostly ground-dwelling and move by knuckle-walking. Gorillas play a vital role in their ecosystem by aiding in seed dispersal and vegetation growth.
Despite their strength and adaptability, gorillas face significant threats from habitat loss, poaching, and diseases like Ebola. Conservation efforts focus on habitat protection, anti-poaching measures, and promoting eco-tourism to ensure their survival and the preservation of their natural habitats.
