They have to find a female for him first. I was reading that they are running out of options on breeding, because they are all mostly related through out the world.

Are they planning on mating Anne and Gentaro? I missed that. He is a burly fellow but I'm not sure he has the temperament to be a breeding alpha. Kintaro is braver. He tries to keep the peace even protecting his abuser, Gentaro. Kintaro stands up to his father. He takes whatever Gentaro dishes out. I guess I'm partial to Kintaro. I think he is the most suited to succeed his father in time but that would be what happens in the wild with fittest. I just don't think Gentaro is that one. He was spoiled for 7 years. It is so fascinating to watch them. Sort of like watching humans in a way. No one knows what will happen so cheer your favorite successor on. I watch them every day with my psychology hat on and its a guess at best for any of us. Im just seriously concerned that he is getting to be very big and powerful. Momotaro needs Genki to not step in with her big mothers heart and let Momotaro keep him in check before he hurts his mother or brother. He is emotionally immature and that makes him dangerous with his size and age. Its all so fascinating isn't it?
I can't wait either! I hope he's moved to a beautiful forest like enclosure and they fed the troop juicy tomatoes and fruits. Gentaro deserves all the luxuries now. Genki,Momo,and Kintaro could have Gentaros grass and leaves!

I agree it shows how dirty both indoors and outdoors their habitats are. Because they are getting so much food donations I am not as concerned about that, it's Gentaro's relentless attacks on Genki. While she can still hold her own, she will have to put up with his antics as long as he remains there, and that has to be planned with the zoo he gets relocated to. I just wish they would seperate him from the group on rotation to give Genki some peace even if for part of the day.

Genki needs to really pop Gentaro, so he can hopefully respect his mum. Momotaro doesn't get involved like he didn't have authority over mischievous son. Kintaro breaks my heart trying to protect his mummy❤
I'm trying my best to understand the reasoning at this heighten stage of son being overly aggressive towards his mother and it's only getting worst. Why did you let Montero go out first and lock mama up with her with son like. Is this show for the videos to get more people to watch? Although Montero is a very passive father and not much help for his wife I think this would have stopped long ago and not ha e progress so badly now if he was like D'jeeco and Shabani because if they see a little trouble they are on top of it. The space for four Gorillas is so very small they hardly have enough room to just really run it's like a crackerjack box. I truly hope that you guys prepare them a much larger and nicer home they deserve better.
This zoo has no funding to build a larger enclosure...they are getting by on donations of food, so the only way to get Genki some peace is to move Gentaro to another zoo-which isn't likely to happen anytime soon, or let him outside while Momotoro goes into the other room to eat. (Since he's food aggressive.) It is the Zoo's responsibility to take care of their animals.
That is so sad to watch Much like humans, the one who is the least confrontational is the one who suffers abuse. Genki doesn't deserve this. She just wants to love her baby and eat .She's no spring chicken yet she's always looking over her back. Feel so bad for her.
It's called high anxiety. She loves her son but, she can't love him properly because of the way he tries to get attention from her and it had caused her much stress, she can't hardly relax because he is always messing with her and she is always on the defense. Montero hasn't even grabbed him one good time to shake him up to say enough of this so, he sees he can keep on getting away with this improper Behavior. I feel bad for both of them.
@@faiththomas5969 I agree that DAD needs to shake him up one good time to let him know it won't be tolerated. I'm not sure why he hasn't done that because I've seen episodes of other Silverbacks laying down the law.
@@tamarahorn1506 Momotaro really tries hard, but Genki always cries about it and jumps in between them. So now you have a rambunctious 10 year old whom Genki will not allow to be corrected. Momotaro will jump in if he hurts Kentaro. I think they had Momotaro in another room during the scuffles.

Kintaro is always protecting his mom,,Gentaro know when to pick on his mom when dad not around..Even dad don't care he post to protect his wife he don't care,,Mama always protecting herself,and Kintaro protecting his mom.
4:15 Genki is about to knock Gentaro into next year! She is usually very patient, but when he crosses the line, and plucks her last nerve she says enough is enough. They're about the same size, same weight (200 lbs), same strength, but an angry Genki is scary---puting my $$$ on Genki. Plus, if he hurt Genki, he would have to deal with an angry Momotaro (400 lbs). Gentaro is flexing and irritating, but not stupid.

Very old video,, and we all know this is my NUMBER 1 most favorite family gorilla troop in the world. And I love Momotaro to the moon and back and Gentaro will always be my baby,, that little gorilla running around in that oversize diaper, and that pink bottle to me until the end of time he will always be my baby. Don’t care what you say, or who says it. 😅 But a lot of comments was so wrong about Gentaro and what happened,,,,, He was very jealous of Kintaro for years because he was fostered by the zookeeper, his foster dad. And even though he got lots of love and lots of attention, it still wasn’t what he was needing his mother gorilla and he sees Kintaro getting all that love and he gets jealous. They have feelings almost exactly like we do. And Dad walked out and he took his chance, But my beautiful Genki was like boy don’t make me go King Kong on you.. I couldn’t handle if Genki got hurt I love her I love this gorilla family troop..
Genki puts up with Gentaro's hormonal BS as long as she can, but you can tell when she's had enough. Look out for mom when she's pissed off, Gentaro! Don't mess with mom.

I agree. Momo bites Gentaro and Genki all the time. Video on here shows Gentaro crying his eyes out. Momo did it, i think. Gentaro tries to be like the baby,Momo smacks him. Im sure that hurts also. No other blackback in captivity attacks their mother...Genki is the mother, she should've raised him with love, patience, and respect the same way she's raising Kintaro. Genki knows the Gent is her son. Nene raised Kiyo with love, Ozala and Momoko. I consider the above 3 to be very good mothers to all their babies. Genki was NEVER a good mother to Gent. The only closeness would be Genki asking Gent to groom her. Genki is a selfish eater and would attack a young Gent if he was near her food. Gent is the ONLY blackback doing this to his mom ...think about it for a minute...why?
Because she used to bully him over food every day, just like she is doing now to kintaro when they eat dinner. I had a clip of her attacking gentaro at a young age, when they were locked in the little room for dinner.

I remember years back, when Kintaro had turned 1 years old and had his first birthday cake, how Genki inhaled it....she took the one slice of lemon that he had from his mouth... Kintaro ended up with nothing. Everyone in the comments said Genki deserved the whole cake... It's like Genki can do no wrong...she can clobber Gentaro, throw poop, etc, etc... It's maddening!!!
@@thesummerof1968 you are so right. I remember when kintaro was just a baby and the zoo would feed him through the bars. Every time they gave him a piece of food she would snatch it out of his hand. He didn't get any of it. And everyone would say, genki needs the food and kintaro doesn't because he is breastfeeding. Please, she was on empty the whole time she was breastfeeding. I have a feeling most of the people sticking up for genki are women and they stick up for her just because she is a female. Well, I'm a woman also, and I can't stand her disgusting behavior.
Here's the thing. Genki sensed Momotaro was circling to leave which is why they were following him. At one point she steers, holds back Kintaro just before Momo scoots out and the doors closes. I believe Momo had a check-in with staff by himself. Obviously, Gentaro took advantage of the situation and staff should temporarily separate Genki & Kintaro for safety precaution in future. Gentaro is not mentally prepared or mature enough to start a family; yet. Female Silverbacks mature at 10 yrs of age. It takes Silverback males to fully mature 13 to 15 yrs of age. Gentaro still has a lot of more maturing and growth to do before taking on the responsibility of being a parent.
More time to himself away from Genki is the key-13-16? I doubt it-she would not survive his beatings if they continue to increase-and NO to anymore babies she can't take care of what she has, she still has at most 6 more years with Kintaro...that will put her 40ish...is it really fair to HER to have more?

In what way is this entertaining seeing them go round and round in circles within seconds !!! Lions in a cage in a 2 by 4 cage springs to mind !!! Even there out door has a roof granted it's a iron netted roof bit it's a roof none the less!!! How ate you licenced ???? Check out other zoo's !!! This is captivity on a major scale now a days
Gentaro waits until Momo is behind closed doors and attacks his mama. The tension was building up before that so why didn't they put Gentaro behind closed doors and keep Genki with daddy. She was trying to stay close and follow him in the door when it shut her out...Super bad call on the zoo with that one, he could have really hurt them, he was very riled up . Come on Kyoto you can do better than that.
Gentaro is enjoing because he like fighting but Genki is defending herself and her little son. Gentaro now is bigger and stronger and could hurt Genki.😥

I'm not loving it! Sweet Genki is constantly fearful of Gentaro and he's not showing Kintaro, the right way to treat his mother. I know he must be jealous of the way she is with Kintaro, but she finally got the chance to raise her child from birth not to mention he's still being breastfed. I wonder if this happens to all gorillas that zookeepers hand raised for almost a year. I keep asking, does anybody know if Genki knew Gentaro was alive after he had been taken from her because her milk didn't come in? How long between the time the zookeepers took him from her, until the day she first laid eyes on him again? That bonding period didn't happen with Gentaro. Yet even still, she accepted him. He may be jealous of the quality time she is spending with Kintaro that he never got. Remember he sees his brother being breastfed, but he never was.
Both Gentaro and Kintaro were removed by day 5 after birth. Both were seen to be losing weight and listless. Gentaro was hand raised for 10.5 months, Kintaro for about 4 to 6 weeks. For both babies Genki was allowed to visit, touch, and smell them everyday. I read that each time a baby was removed, Genki howled and was very upset about the removal. She came everyday to touch and smell them, staying as long as she was allowed. She knew who her babies were and more than welcomed their return. She was and has been very protective of both boys. There are old videos that show Genki and Momotaro have been very involved with their sons from start to now. She held just as tight to Gentaro as she has Kintaro. Expect to see the same situation if another baby arrives. Also, remember Gentaro was an only child for 7 yrs before Kintaro arrived. To say he was pampered and spoiled is an understatement. Finally, Gentaro's actions are normal for a hormonal teenager (male/female, human/gorilla). There are many well made docs about wild gorillas and captive gorillas that show the same behavior. It seems most zoo's globally, separate their blackbacks to bachelor groups at age 10 or 11. Seems they usually stay in these groups until they are 13 to 20+ years old. Moving these young males to permanent homes depends on the stud books, genetics, best possible pairs (females usually do the choosing of mate's), who owns each individual-- actual owner not zoo, zoo's don't own any animal, they're on loan.The major point is the silverback is always #1, the king. The blackbacks will harass those who they think they think are smaller and weaker physically, usually a female in the group. Part of their training seems to be how to dominate fairly, gently and enforce the laws, protecting the family, and be a good leader and father. Gentaro is learning and pushing the limits on target on his way to silverback . Unfortunately, he is learning this by attacking his mother. Also, he has been lucky in that Momo has allowed him to act as his second, which may be adding to the dysfunction. He expects to have some liberties like his father. You'll notice this bad behavior only occurs if Momo isn't around. If a full battle occurred, my money's on Genki. (Sidenote--Genki may have witnessed her mothers death at the hands of a silverback, not her sire but one brought in to mate with her mom Hirami) Notice how fast he runs from Angry Genki (she's still fast for a seasoned lady) 😊 She wouldn't hesitate to take him down if she, and especially Kintaro, were in true danger. Momo wouldn't allow him to harm her and/or Kintaro either. I'm sure the only thing scarier than a raging Genki is an outraged Momo. I know the zoo is presently separating Gentaro for increasingly longer time periods from the family to prepare him for full separation to a bachelor group. I haven't seen any info as to when or where yet (probably within the next 12 months. I hope this long info will help give some understanding to a natural process of gorilla maturation.
But he's already older. Some call him poor boy. Boy? He's mounted Kintaro and "I think" he's mounted Genki. Even Kin is to old to be babied. But maybe Genki has PTSD when they took the older one Momo came to live with Genki when he was gentaro's age. Sometimes, like humans there are bad and good gorillas. He might have gotten bad genes from grandparents or great grandparents. He is a $ maker for the zoo. People want to see the bad son who constantly mounts his brother and beats up his mother- they won't get rid of him anytime soon.

I feel so sorry for her 3 males to contend with and her anxiety will kill her,she doesn't need this in her life and they should separate her off first and they should know what's going to happen by now,even I can see before it happens so why allow it to keep happening.They are not in the wild they are locked in and nowhere to go.
This boy gorilla waits until the big male is out of the room ahd then starts attacking his mother. He won’t try this when the bigger male in the room. Why the hill didn’t let momataro back in the room to stop this, is wrong. Gen tarp is really going to hurt genki one day in this same situation. Gen tarp is always watching his behaviors around momotaro. But, the minute he’s gone, the attacks on genki starts. And the staff is to dumb to let momotaro back in to protect genki. Makes me mad
No she bit her fingers for a very different reason, the silver back male of the troop favoured other gorillas over her and she became stressed, she has a very secure place in the current troop and the zoo will not get another female because of it.
