@@ofkhod3638 There have been a few where a gospel phrase is played in a jazz context but I haven't seen one specifically focused on gospel. Unfortunately, most youtubers that say they are demonstrating gospel are actually doing contemporary christian and/or neosoul so I haven't found a go-to resource that discusses how to play the music.
Dear Adam, I love what you're presenting here and everything else I've seen. I'm a jazz singer who's been teaching herself piano maybe eight years now. I would love to learn everything you know about Ray Charles style of playing and accompanying himself. In my book you can't beat RAY. I did have to listen a few times to hear you count out the 12/8 so I could match up to the metronome which honestly I didn't do... I've gotta go much slower until I've got the the notes and the keys under my fingers fluidly enough. I don't know if you get these messages even though it was a long time ago that you presented this, but I would probably love to hear you do more popular music, the kind that was majorly influenced by jazz. I love the Sade stuff too! I can't thank you enough, Maggie
Love it. And there’s an infinite amount of subtlety that Ray Charles adds to those little slides. It’s taken me so long to even begin to approach it. He has a such a fine touch. You can hear a very similar kind of sensitivity in Dr John’s playing, to hear what I’m talking about.
"This is likely the best video lesson I've ever tried. I've watched it countless times and I finally feel comfortable enough with the content to incorporate it with my own playing. I love Ray's playing and Adam gives a great lesson. I have a few requests/suggestions for you which I think would make good lessons. To begin, could you possibly tackle any of "True" by James Booker?
Since you had to ask: Yeah, you are most welcome to “do” Ray all nite long ‘till we’re all old and gray! 😂 What would be nice is to take his language appart and apply it around Jazz Blues and some very standard standards.
