Funny. Michael was my best friend in 4th grade so many years ago in Enid, Oklahoma. My mom and his mom were best friends. I remember going to his big house on Broadway, two blocks away, and he would play the Beatles on his little phonograph. He was captivated by it. Joyful with it. In a different world with it. His comments at the beginning of this clip are straight from the heart and straight from his history. The Beatles are a thread through his Life's work. RIP my good friend.

I was a teenager and went to the New Varsity courtyard in Palo Also with my friends every chance we could as the theater would not let us in during the late 83 through the summer of 84. He should be credited with the founding of Windham Hill as well. People don't know that and although short but sweet, that label recorded some of the most incredible acoustic music of its ERA.

I don't know if I ever met you Russell but I went there a great deal also. I was friends with the manager, a woman named Tami Jefferson, She and her son ran the place. Do you remember Tuck & Patty? They played nearly as much a Hedges at the Varsity. The NVT was almost a step back into the 1930's. They had a great bar and restaurant also and not too pricy. Never any fights or riff raff. Tami chased out troublemakers. They showed a lot of old movies and foreign films. A great place 35 years ago.

My thought exactly the fist time I saw Hedges on PBS TV, playing this exact number in 1985.

Even now, nobody has ever matched what Michael Hedges brought to music. Nobody copies his style with the same feeling and musical sensibility. He was unique, and unmatched.

The first time I saw Hedges was on a PBS station in 1985. He was playing this song. That was my exact thought at the time, the Hendrix of the acoustic.

It is hard to watch Michael Hedges or listen to him because I miss him so much. I got to see him about 15 times. I first saw him at the New Varsity Theatre in Palo Alto, California in 1984. He blew me away that night and I was hooked forever. God bless you Michael Hedges. There will never be another like you. Forever your fan. Greg Zamlich

Michael was really a special talent... A once-in-a-lifetime type of player. His playing was so unlike anything anyone had ever heard, the reaction to most folks hearing/seeing him for the first time was usually a jaw drop. He took the guitar to a different place... A brilliant, progressive musical mind, and a very humble and kind soul to boot... A rare combination in music these days. The man may be gone, but his music lives on with clips like this. Thanks for sharing!!!!

"Tomorrow Never Knows” 🎶 lyrics- lennon/mccartney Turn off your mind - relax and float down stream It is not dying - it is not dying Lay down all thoughts - surrender to the void It is shining - it is shining That you may see the meaning of within It is being - it is being That love is love and love is everyone It is knowing - it is knowing That ignorance and hate may mourn the dead It is believing - it is believing But listen to the color of your dreams It is not living - it is not living Ah - play the game - existence to the end Of the beginning - of the beginning Of the beginning - of the beginning

the word is HASTE not hate.... .....hate makes no sense........ The song is about peaceful meditation meaning "too much activity misses the depth". They mourn the dead because they are missing the awareness of life.

@@laura.sefchik Why would hate mourn the dead ? it's meaningless and false conclusion. . Haste "mourns the dead" because it is missing the meaning of existence. Being is in unity.

Hedges took something remarkable, a masterpiece of psychedelia made before the genre even existed, and turned it into something rather banal. It was daring to cover this song, but he probably should have known better.
