I have this exact uke, 5 strings, black burst etc and I love it. I love the thinness of the body, I like how easy it is to play those two low G strings. It sounds wild! Very glad I bought it and would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a uke like this.
That’s quite nice, didn’t realise double low G would sound so different. Actually like the satin look. Obviously a lot of thought and input from the artist has gone into the instrument, that said, she is an exceptional talented musician, so why wouldn’t a manufacturer listen. Thanks for another great review, have a great week.
Wow, that is a beautiful instrument! I've never played a 5 string but, as many of your viewers, I'm a huge Taimane fun. Love the sound and I love Enya instruments. I have two thanks to your reviews. Wonderful review of this tenor. Hope you have/had a wonderful holiday!
“Taimane” means “diamond” in Samoan (Taimane’s ethnicity), so the name has double meaning. I wish it was available without pickup so I could add my own Mi-Si Acoustic Trio to it. The pickup provided seems too gimmicky to me.
I love the effects. I use the chorus/reverb for playing by myself, and the line out. Even recorded a little shoegaze ukulele pop tune with my enya concert. (if you're interested it's on youtube: Beet Betty Slava
That ukulele sure is a thing of beauty. Wasn’t sure how good it would sound acoustically with it being so thin but it seems decent. You have to hand it to Enya. They keep innovating, making us all want another Uke. Am hoping they bring out an affordable 8 string like the Klos carbon model and some baritones. Great review Baz.
This is a very nice ukulele. I saw it on their site for quite some time, was waiting for some buzz on the internet. Your video is the first one I've seen.
My thoughts exactly when I first saw the Moon range, so refreshing to see a maker produce something a little more special/individual for a signature range. For me as much as I like the five-string I do prefer the blue without all the electrics. Great review as always Thank you 🙂👍🤟
I never thought guitars/ukuleles were 'routed out' because it is far more complicated than making backs and sides, surprised by that, but it certainly looks attractive, nice smoky colour. That 5th double string sounds like a drone note if not fretted, I can hear the difference with this addition. Nice review.
Thanks for the review! I just bought this after I watched your review. Sent you a thank you.... I'll let you know what I think when I get it next week.
I just got mine yesterday, and I have to say I'm not impressed. The $129 nova u pro acoustic sounds bigger and better to my ear. I'll be returning the Taimane Moon.
What a lovely instrument! Lot of moon-theme ukes out there... Thanks for the review; I appreciate some of these odd ones that I probably would never buy but are fascinating.
She is an amazing player, and that is a beautiful ukulele. I also like Enya. I am currently enjoying two of their ukuleles thanks to your recommendations. Have a wonderful time enjoying the holidays with your family. 🎅🎄🤶🎁
Sounds and looks great--Enya has done it again. Not a bad price, either. But beware when amping double strings: if a pair is the slightest bit off, you could blow the fillings out of your teeth!
From personal experience: 5- (and more) stringed ukes *may* be harder to play, it depends on the player. My 47-year-old hands were fine for most ukes, I could play clean and fairly fast (not Taimane-fast obviously, but I manage). But when I ordered a 5-string Kala once, it was the only uke I've ever had to return. Exerting enough pressure on the doubled G string was just too much for me. (And no, I can't play a steel-stringed acoustic guitar anymore, either). Now when I see people playing 12-string guitars, I wonder what kind of Hulk hands they have, it's superhuman. Try before you buy! But oh wow, I would love a solid-block mahogany uke! It's my favorite wood, and unfortunately my Martin all-mahogany guitar is only gathering dust now.
To be honest with you - I kind of contradicted my own statement - as my technique caused a bit of buzz in places! Not a fault of the uke, more my fretting and string attack. Check out the four string - also - check out the ukes made by Pete Mai at Bonanza - he makes a similar concept out of whatever wood you would like!
Big Enya fan here . . . I own 7. Been waiting for this 5 string/Double Low G. Would have preferred it without the electronics but love the mahogany. Still undecided, will have to play in person sometime in the future. I wonder how two smooth-wound low Gs would sound on it? But always grateful for the review!
Look! I have three Enya ukulele too, but after watching Taimane on an interview introduce her signature models but without playing a song from this ukulele! That surprised me a lot but mind you she bring along also her two personal ukuleles, when this ‘moon’ being stroked a few time by her. It’s like under the water! Even I wouldn’t play it don’t mention about her! Simply a business gimmick! Correct me if I’m wrong!
@@fredwong7343 Correct you? See my video - I think you are wrong - I think these are great. Her normal uke is a Kamaka that costs about $2000 or more - unfair comparison to this.
Wow, I really like it! Knew absolutely nothing about five string ukulele but have a better appreciation now. I actually thought it was plenty loud too. Looks a lot more expensive than it is, in my view. Thanks for another great review Baz, enjoyed this one! 👍
The price is as much as an Eastman here in Sweden, otherwise it's a cool piece of instrument. Five strings is a bonus. Thanks for a nice and good review ❤
It's a fascinating instrument. I knew Taimane played the five-string, but I never imagined the fourth course were unisons. As for the routed-out body, I never saw a ukulele built that way. Gibson used routed-out bodies for the Pat Martino signature model as well as the ES-336 and 356 guitars, and Orville Gibson used the style on mandolins 100+ years ago. My guess is it may work best plugged in, although it sounded good as you demonstrated it. The body design probably helps with sustain also. I've learned from you to expect good fit and finish, and innovation from Enya. Its appearance suggests a powerful simplicity. It looks fairly priced and a good value. Thanks for reviewing it.
Cracker! Other than the on-board tuner🧐, looks awesome. I suppose it can be strung high & low G to give that 8-string, more homogenised sound (or provide you with a high G for picking patterns too🤔). Ended up buying the Tanglewood concert Banjolele for my Xmas (I suspect this is the same Banjolele (different headstock pattern) that Kala have stopped selling). The back can be removed to give a less punchy sound. Factory strings were hideous! They couldn’t even carry ‘hammer-ons’😵💫😬, plus they were so thick they were sticking in the nut grooves!! Quick swap to some Wurth fluorocarbons and I’m back in love with it🪕😊👍. Nice review, lovely product🇬🇧🎥👍
I was at a Taimane concert, and one of those G strings broke. She removed it and continued. Amazon has five versions of that uke, starting at $399.99 - four-string, five-string, with and without electronics.
This 5 string Taimane uke is exceptional and should be for the price. Maybe do a review of the Enya concert 25d to see how their base model stacks up. I'd be interested to see how Enya does. I have one. It's the natural Concert. Cheers,
Sounds really nice. My first ukulele was the concert Enya nova. I like that you can get this without the electric part as I don’t think I would care about that as much. Nice to have that option. I had thought about the feather. But this might be better for me. Thanks ! Great review. I also like the idea Of a blue option 🙂. Great review
I think with a 5 string I would have preferred it not to be a thin model to take more advantage of the low end possibilities but it's a really cool instrument.
Very cool to see you get one for review so early👍 However, my fear has come to pass....I must shake things up and make room for a new uke😂 I know the effects are subjective, but that's part of the draw for me. I might even part with my Spark 40 as I barely use it.
Oh snap, was hoping you'd look at this one! I'm not sure why they didn't make a blue five string. I would have got it immediately! Although price is more than it should be... $499 seems more appropriate to me.
@@GotAUkulele it's not visually exciting enough for me, but I get others will like it. I really want a blue satin Enya, and I prefer 5 strings too... I assume they will offer the blue later when they recognize their mistake... At least I hope they will.
I would really like an updated guide on the songs you play one here. The one linked in the description is ok, but docent learn us the whole song, as you play them in your videos.
It does sound lovely, I’m surprised ðat ðey didn’t go wið a high and low g paired up to give a depth in range and harmony but it does sound really nice.
Thanks for the review, Barry! What do you think of the tuner? Are they the same as the tuner on the Enya all-solid mahogany with Cherry Blossom on the headstock?
Nice review on a nice signature ukulele. They did it right, making a ukulele that reflects Taimane's preferences, and style. But to do this review right, shouldn't you have ripped through some flamenco riffs, like Taimane plays? Lol
Ooooh I was waiting for one of these to appear in the UK! I did say a week or two ago I could be the first to get one and put a video on here using it and then maybe someone will give me a musical job hahaha 😂 Did you order it directly from Enya and will it be going up for sale on eBay by any chance? Great review as always Baz! Thank you!😊
Hi. I am an elementary music teacher, and I use the ukulele a lot. I’m wondering if you could help me make a decision. I really like this ukulele, but I’m also interested in the bonanza Homestead baritone, and the Koaloha Opio tenor. If you could get one, is there a clear winner? I don’t want to spend over $800…but I’m a decent player and want a good instrument. I have 4 Kalas right now. They’re ok.
I do get asked this sort of question a lot, but actually have a policy of not giving recommendations. Not me trying to be difficult, it’s just that it’s really subjective and different for everyone - we all hear and play differently, but also people have their own preferences on looks, scales, features, decoration etc. To make things harder - i'm not sure those three are fair to compare - all VERY different in construction. The Opio is probably the highest end though
Hi Baz. I have concert nova Enya. I have been thinking about the feather or the 4 string version of the moon. The feather seems to be just a different version of the 4 string moon but it’s a 100 dollars more. Just wondering if you can tell me what you get for increased price of the feather. I kind of prefer the looks of the feather. Thanks.
I like what they did here. My favorite part is that they didn't change the price just because it has her name on it. I wouldn't buy one (yet, lol) because the 5 string I play is a baritone but I am gonna put 2 low g's on it instead of a high and a low because I bet it's gonna sound great.
Mine is a slim body Bonanza in spruce. It chimes just this. Someday I'll take a look at the physics Of how this works so well with such a slim instrument
Hi, love your reviews but wonder if you ever thought about doing a 'blind' review? This looks a great ukulele and thought me that 5 strings were Available! Keep on keeping on!
@@GotAUkulele Hiya , I mean when you are unaware of the make/brand till you've played it or finished your review.....might give some interesting results. A bit like blind tasting wine. Best regards Mike Smith
I really like this one. In fact I like everything about it. I was wondering how you play the 5 string. Thanks to your review I have a better idea. I think the price is good for a well built signature. Enya is starting to get into some high-end stuff. They make great ukuleles in all different price ranges for all different people. Thanks as always for a good review. I enjoyed this one thoroughly…..DOC
I do know what you are getting at, but then that is exactly the style of tuning that Taimane plays herself (and certainly not for me to claim her sound is not up to scratch!) - so I guess it was always going to be a double low G for a Taimane signature instrument. For me I think it improves on the Enya Feather which, as much as I liked it, didn't really sound like a tenor at all.
Just got one of these. Sounded too thin and felt disappointed. I changed the strings out to Worth Brown. I didn't have 2 low Gs, so i put one high/one low. It's a much better sound now. Probably wont be my favorite to play, but it's different enough to put in rotation. Other notes: the instrument is pretty heavy, surprised by how thick the body seems to be. The strap is really nice, but the bag is barely above a basic freebie.
I remember a few years ago I bought my first Enya ukulele, it was a M6 tenor. And I was so excited to have it. Then less than a year after I ended up giving it to the thrift store along with some old clothes. because I went from loving enya to not caring about enya at all. I do Iike Tiamane, but her signature uke does not impress me. But atleast it's better than those Billy Elish signature Fender ukes.
I have an 8 string ukulele (ortega eclipse) and it did not feel comfortable playing it,so i took the 3 strings off and now i have a 5 string ukulele with a low g and a high g and it sounds amazing.Very nice instrument but double low g is unnecessary... thank you for the review 🙏ru-vid.com6tdaISXrx9g?feature=share
@@GotAUkulele agreed...im Just saying that a 5 string ukulele with one high g and one low g sounds better than two 2 low g strings ...i think lanikai makes one....
@@MrDixieD yes of course...very simple...just buy a high g set of strings(the same as the ones that they use on the instrument) and use only the g string...low g on top...
