Gloria Estefan has a great voice. I love her song Don't Want To Leave You Now, and she's originally from Cuba, having fled with her family when the Cuban Revolution happened, hence why there is such a great beat and rhythm to the songs. I think she started with the Miami Sound Machine before going solo. She is like Miami royalty from what I know. I think she laid the groundwork for other Latin American artists like Ricky Martin, Shakira, and J-Lo to follow.

@@vegasbaby3669 Apparently Bad Boys isn't as well liked as you think. The Estefans and Sony leave it off all the greatest hits packages. I finally found it on the special edition version of Essentials that had three cds. Gloria also never includes it live sets because the song isn't popular.

You should give Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam a listen. They were another great 80's pop group.... "I Wonder If I Take You Home", "Can You Feel The Beat", "Head to Toe", "All Cried Out", "Lost in Emotion (Can't Find Myself)", etc.. Also, "Ain't My Type Of Hype" from Full Force, which was a band/production team that worked with them is epic and needs a reaction.

My English great grandmother got off the boat at Ellis Island (came over as an employee, a servant to a family, alone at 16 yrs old) and met her Irish Immigrant husband there & settled there, the three generations born after stayed and raised their families there too. Unfortunately I moved as the prices sky rocketed. I hope you enjoy every second of that awesome location and it’s deep history! You’re literally in the middle of all that NYC has to offer! Even back when I was a kid and the neighborhood was poor, we were all poor, it was still the best place ever ♥️ I don’t live far so whenever I’m feeling homesick, I come in and get my fill ♥️ Hells Kitchen will always be home to me 🥰 I hope it treats you right 😘

Gloria is amazing, I've seen her several times and never left disappointed, her ballads are so powerful you can feel her emotions as she sings them. Then she can tear it up on the dance floor, singing and dancing all over the stage and she leaves it all out, she holds nothing back. She has so many great songs, "can't stay away from you" is a must listen.

I was born January 1970 and I’m from Miami so the Miami sound machine during my time was everything! I fucking love her. Whatever mood you’re in however you’re feeling if you’re feeling low, just put on Gloria Estefan Miami sound machine and you will feel much better! I feel blessed growing up in Miami with salsa and merengue!

They have so many fun upbeat songs. For a powerful song try Coming Out of The Dark. They were in a terrible tour bus accident. Gloria almost died and hurt her back badly. This was the song that captured the return to the stage, to life, etc...

Jay got a Miami-Caribbean vibe going tonight! ❤👍🏽 They busted out and blew up. Gloria went solo, grammy winner, dang near lost her life in a bus crash, came back again. A very beautiful person. ❤ The Birdcage and Ride Along 2 have this song in it, probably used a lot. Love the cover of "Turn the Beat Around" but "Coming Out of the Dark" is stellar. If I remember correctly she was a grade school teacher but quit to do the band full time and they hit it big. She has been honoured at The Kennedy Center Honors ceremony. At her height - her tour bus was in a bad accident. Broke her back. Everyone thought she would never come back from that. To this day she has steel rods in her back. That is why you will see her concerts/videos she isn’t as ‘active’ ‘jumping around’ like she used to on stage before the accident. She is AMAZING and a tough lady, mom, wife! What an inspiration she is. TONS OF GREAT MUSIC FROM HER!! 🥰❤️🥰❤️

Do more Gloria! My favorite dance/up tempo song by her is "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You". She is even better in some of her poignant ballads, like: "Cuts Both Ways", "Don't Wanna to Lose You", "Can't Stay Away from You", and "Anything for You".

Gloria Fajardo was just the lead singer of MIami Latin Boys. Then they changed their name to Miami Sound Machine and she eventually married the band leader Emilio Estefan. With the band's early success Emilio saw what a star she was becoming, so he moved her to the front and called it Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine. She then transitioned more to the front and became a solo artist, but still with the "unnamed" Miami Sound Machine as her band. In March 1990, she was in a terrible accident when her tour bus was rammed by a truck, shattering her spine. Amazingly in just short of a year, she was back on stage blowing the top off the charts. Through everything (and to this date) she and Emilio are still at each other's side. Such an amazing person (and that is not even considering how good a singer and dancer she is).

It’s still a fun song. I believe the song was later used in the movie Birdcage. Another great one is The Rhythm is Gonna Get you”. As a solo artist, my favorite is a slow song called “ Anything for You”. I highly recommend it.

Gloria Estefan used to be part of the Miami Sound Machine, but halfway through the eighties she was placed as the front singer and they group's name changed to Gloria Estefan & MIAMI SOUND Machine. Later on, it became just Gloria Estefan. She's still active as a singer and songwriter. A few years ago she made a new version of Conga, called Samba, with a Brazilian twist.

Glad you did Miami Sound Machine. Suggested it a while back because they defined that 80s Miami Sound. They have so many hits too. Gloria went in to have a good solo career too. Between this group, Miami Vice TV series and Freestyle Genre that lead to Tony B later in the decade this was Miami man.

It's a whole band her husband is in it.their song bad boys was used in 80's movie three men and a baby starring Steve guttenburg, Tom selleck,ted danson and Nancy travis.a few years ago she was on the Graham Norton show in the UK and told him how she made up different fun lyrics to some of their songs.she was also on strictly come dancing doing a medley of her songs the dancers were so excited I thought they might explode lol. They were our only experience of popular Latin music in the 80's in the uk up til it became recently trendy.

Great song and especially the dominant piano melody and trumphet sound. Takes me back to my senior school years. You're right, its such a vibe. First i heard of them was their smash song "Doctor Beat" which was popular too. Around same period, there were bands with string of hits like Surface "Happy", Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam "I Wonder if i Take You Home", The Jets "Crush on You" and Level 42 "Lessons in Love". Look them up too, you'll definately love them.

This was Miami Cuban club music and mid 80’s most of the energy came from inhaling a fine white powder usually off mirrors. Gloria started off with Miami sound and I think went solo in the later years but tons of great dance songs

Heartache avenue by british band the maisonettes is a 60s retro song from the 80's, which was then sampked for the more resent song the avenue by Roll deep. Both worth listening too to see how well the beat was used. I know the drummer nick parry whos a lovelly guy but sadly the lead singer Lol mason recently passed away

Miami Sound Machine was a originally set up by the producer and arranger Emilio Estefan - Gloria is his wife. I strongly recommend that you listen to the album "Mi Tierra" by Gloria Estefan (But Emilio was producer). It is mostly traditional Cuban Rhythms, such as Son Montuno, but every track on it is fire (and at one point it was the highest selling Latin crossover album of all time). If you want to do it as single track reactions the title track and "Si Senor" are good places to start. But you cannot really go wrong with Gloria. The rule of thumb is that any track by Gloria Estefan in English is great, but any track by her in Spanish is even better.
