The diction required for the chorus is just stunning lol I got obsessed with it for a while and couldn't stop trying until I got it. The most difficult line is the last one. I still get stuck sometimes
If I'm not mistaken, Gloria was one of the first Latin-American singers and very popular in the US? I'm thinking that if I tried to sing and dance today like Gloria did, I'd already see an ambulance outside my window and a cardiorespirator in motion. 👍
Definitively a great song ! Despite the title of it, the guys moving on the scene are actually playing Djembés (african drum) and not congas ! We can see a set of 3 yellow congas back of the scene in the main band musicians line up.
I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO SEE HER 1 YEAR AFTER THE BUS CRASH ! SHE WAS SIMPLY AMAZING ! AND A SONG THAT WAS WRITTEN FROM HER RECOVERY WAS , "COMING OUT OF THE DARK" WHICH IS AN AMAZING SONG ALSO !
Ahhh remember the good old days of going clubbing & dancing to this song. Clubbing when you didn’t have to worry about some jerk spiking your drink or some idiot shooting up the club you were in. Bring back those days please!!!!! Love me a big brass section like this! So few bands had one.
Right before you said you needed something percussion, I was thinking you needed a pair of maracas. LOL This was great bringing this type of music into the mainstream. People were trying to sing this without knowing any Spanish and doing the Conga-line dancing, which was for the most part hilarious, at least to me.

i was just about 3 years old when this song came out and my mother would sing it to me when it was bath time and i hated the song for some reason as a child. weird what we don't like as kids? it's a great song.
I was fortunate enough to go see her come back Show in Miami after the bus accident. I was very young probably 12 but the energy at that show was just unbelievable, during this song I would say 80% of the audience was in one huge conga line. Being how much she is loved in Miami it was something really special.

The song and music are great, but unfortunally Gloria Stephan although is a cuban descedent, she don´t preserve the cuban spirit on the way she is dressed and she dance this song !!! She doesn´t have the latin rithm and flavor, she looks more like a simple american singer !!! Any way, Gloria is a great composer !!!
