Myrcella's murder was such a disgrace to Oberyn's memory. He would never have even considered harming her for anything her family did. He prided himself on Dorn's protective culture in regard to children. He died trying to avenge the murder of an innocent woman and her children. Disgraceful.
The plot line was a play to the history of the Prussians in our world where much of the political machinations was weilded surredeptiously by the wives and consorts in the harem. If course, the similarities are extremely loose, in our world when one became Sultan one would murder all brothers and half brothers to avoid the throne being challenged at a later date hence the consort of one ruler would rarely be taken or protected by the brother of a fallen ruler.
"died peacefully" she didn't drop and boom she's dead. She was choking in her few moments before passing away. Her death wasn't peaceful, like most people who get poisoned.
@@lotsoflaughs13ify Eh. Five minutes of intense terror and pain, in an otherwise paradisaical life as a beautiful princess. She got to experience love, luxury, beauty, and die before seeing the world consumed by the white walkers. Still a win.
@@mesmer3780 Yes from your explanation she did *live* peacefully, but it's not the same as *dying* peacefully, which is what I am pertaining to. Dying peacefully is like dying while you're asleep because usually your calm and relaxed when you're sleeping. You feel no pain when it's a peaceful death, which apparently wasn't the type of death Myrcella experienced.
@@joevines3428 not necessarily. just driven more by their anger. manipulated by their mother. i doubt they would have killed her on their own, i feel like most of it was ellarias idea
@Va Lin Martin already admitted that he got inspired from shakespeare and many other great writers. Hollywood is not the right place for great stories.
omg that is so true! I have come to like Jaime and his development towards being a sort-of honorable guy, but I can never forget that he pushed a CHILD to his 'almost' death.
@@lawfulhusbands Yeah, his intention was to kill Bran IN ORDER TO save Cersei and her THREE children. In the books, even Ned thinks about what he would do if it was the life of some unknown child vs. the lives of Robb, Sansa, Arya, Bran and Rickon. He didn't know and prayed he never would.
Worse than Cersei. Cersei didn't have any hand in Elia or Oberyn's death. Oberyn volunteering for Tyrion was totally unexpected. It's one of the few times in the series where Cersei is definitely innocent.
I liked Ellaria in the books. In the books, she was against the Martells desire for revenge. Yes, she was distraught watching the love of her life die in front of her, but she was more concerned about her daughters' well-being.
@@KitsuneADestiny Forgetting Ellaria from the book. GOT Ellaria plot... didnt make any sense. Considering that Oberyn said to Cersei, that in Dorne, the mistakes of the fathers dont reflect in the kids. So, Ellaria wouldnt never touch Myrcella by that idea... I could understand sand snakes, could share that opinion to kill a Lannister, they were young lost their father in a combat, that for them didnt make any sense and assume it was a murder. But Ellaria!?
Nope. Mycella's death was another one of Tyrion's clever mistakes. Though you might not like it, Cersei is a far better judge of people's character than Tyrion. It was another of Tyrion's many mistakes where people end up dead. On this list of mistakes are Olenna, Casterly Rock, Yara Greyjoy and her fleet, Ellaria Sand and her daughters, Thoros of Myr, Shea & Tywin.
@@ctruth6185 If cersei didnt insisted putting Tyrion as guilty of Joffrey murder, Oberyn wouldn't had fought for him. It was Cersei desire to and stupity to destroy tyrion that lead to this... Tyrion didn't do mistake by matching Myrcella with Tristan, he knew that Martell's wouldnt never hurt her or mistreated her. It was Ellaria blindness and passion that seal Myrcella fate. But, if Cersei understood tyrion, she knew, he wouldnt never kill his nieces. He love them all.
C Truth Nah, Cersei’s stupidity led to Oberyn getting killed, which then led to her daughter getting killed in retaliation. The fact that she was foolish enough to relish Oberyn’s death just shows how blinded she was by hate.
If Doran were not so soft, then everything would be fine. Ellaria and her daughters have repeatedly shown that they do not care about the ruler Doran and his relationship with the king. They had their plans for revenge and they did not hide them. This was quite enough to at least take them into custody. And in the best case - executed for treason.
in the beginning, cerise is talking about how she doesn't know where Myrcella's goodness came from, but now? It's Jamie. She's so much like her father. Jamie is secretly a romantic and Myrcella was ready to marry the love of her life and it was all taken away from her because of her mother. She loved that prince
I just realized Jaime never got the chance to tell his kids he loved them as a father...he watched them but they never recognized him as their father. But Myrcella knew and that's, really really sad. He finally has that moment and seconds later, it's ripped away from him.
@Tatiyana Sutherland how do you know ? Myrcella knew and Tommen could have guessed at some point, but I don't think Joffrey knew, he always despised Jaime and was proud of being Robert's son
Joffrey had heard the rumours, but was probably in denial about it. As you said, he wanted to be Robert's son. Tommen probably felt the same way. Myrcella was the only one who embraced Jamie as her father. But the chance for him to have a real relationship with her was taken away. It's a very sad scene.
This is the only thing I liked about show's version of Dornish plot. Myrcella and Jaime's conversation. It is really sad that they butchered Dorne so much after Oberyn's death (wear helmet, kids). They are truly badasses and they were the only match for Targaeryens when they had dragons. "We will bring you fire and blood." "Your words. Ours are Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken." If anyone is interested what was Dorne really up to... (spoilers) As Oberyn puts it, his sister, wife of Rhaegar, was raped and killed by Lannisters. He wants revenge, but his older brother Doran is more patient and calculating. Doran's daughter Arianne (smart girl who uses her wits and sexuality - close to Cersei, but much more likeable) and Oberyn wants to use Dornish laws (the oldest child inherits, not the oldest son) to make Myrcella the Queen. Myrcella in the books is around 10 years old, she is fierce and smart for her age, she even have courage to talk back to Joffrey. She is basically how Cersei sees herself - as a strong lioness (fun fact - Cersei blames everyone that they don't take her seriously because of her gender, but she doesn't give a shit about Myrcella and favoures her beloved Joffrey). Arianne tries to finish what her uncle started, but Doran stops her and reveals his plan: making an alliance with Targaryens. Viserys was supposed to marry Arianne, after his death Doran sends Arianne's brother to Dany and Arianne to man who claimes he is Aegon, son of Rhaegar and Elia. Showrunners were afraid that fans would be lost and uninterested, so they butchered Dorne. Dorne is not about strong women killing men and calling it success. Dorne is about equality, being strong together (just like Starks or Tyrells). They are okay with their sexuality... and god, they are insteresting in the books. All of the Kingdoms united by Aegon, except for Dorne. It almost seemed like they were testing Targaryens (even if they were not part of Kingdoms, they still mourned death of the greatest King Jaeherys I.).
It melted my heart when marcella said to jami that she knows he is her father, and at last jamie's eyes were giving expressions like at least one child understood his feelings truly and she said she is glad for that. I really felt the the man jamie reached his peace at last. But everything is lost in the next minute as the beautiful, innocent and kind hearted mercella fell in jamie's arms in her last moments.
It broke my heart when she died. I thought this couple was going to be the "price & princess" of game of thrones. But this is not a disney film is it? Good people die so quickly in this series...
The problem with this show is that they kinda killed characters right to left so in order to not run out of them in the later seasons, they just all developed massive plot armours.
god I hate ellaria. killed a little girl just to get back at cersei for "killing" her husband as if it wasn't his choice to fight for tyrion. shes worse than cersei
It made no sense to me. She was in love with Oberyn who was against hurting children, she wouldn’t have killed Cersei’s child to avenge him. If she was going to kill anyone it would be Cersei for not killing The Mountain when he committed crimes against their family.
I don't even know if I called it 'love.' I think it's more of the way Tywin 'loves' too. It's rather 'possessive' and not sincere genuine affection, it seems like. Cersie ignored her two younger ones in favor of Joffrey. She only got 'troubled' when they were either 'murdered' (Joffrey) or seemingly manipulated by other party except for herself (Tommen--Cersei wanted control over Tommen) then like Tywin's 'concern' for Tyrion when he was taken, Cersei only was truly concerned after Oberyn's death about the safety of her daughter....But I suppose it's the Lannister brand of love.
Right? And for the most part they were very peaceful as a whole...most people in real power only wanted harm done to those who deserved it. Not even to mention that the Prince was perfect for Marcella, same age and both very good looking. I wish they had more time together!
Ellaria: I wish you all the happiness in the world. Myrcella: In exchange for stealing my necklace, I believe it is fair that I take your necklace. Ellaria: What a strange request, child. Myrcella: Making strange requests brings me happiness. You wished for my happiness. So give me your necklace.
I agree but in the books, she only saw her as an extension of herself. When Cersei found out Myrcella got injured, she only focused on her looks rather than herself.
I agree. Something about seeing her capacity for evil, it really warms my heart to see her pure, although misguided, love for her children. Myrcella was a treasure.
People critisize Doran for being weak, but really, I think he was quite a good leader. He was merciful, as any good king should be, but he stood his ground when it came to his judgement. He didn't want war, and rightfully so, especially in the universe of Game of Thrones. Under different circumstances, I think things could have gone quite differently and he could have had a very prosperous reign.
You know Tommen and Myrcella were always good little children when you remember the moments in the first season when they just talked to Tyrion. They had nothing against him and they were nice to him and all that. AND THEN THEY BOTH DIED. THEY DIED! :(
The Sand Snakes are avenging the death of their father whose sister, the Crown Princess of the 7 Kingdoms was brutally butchered by the evil, scheming, power mad, greedy, Lannisters. Ellaria was still not as brutal when killing Myrcella. At least the corpse is recognizable to be buried. I can't forgive the Lannisters for their savagery of Eliia & her children either. I recoiled for a full day hearing & reading about the evil done to them. It was chilling. Ellaria should have hired the faceless men to get Cersei to wipe out her family as was done to Elia. So they really didn't take full vengeance. Evil begets evil. His story about the mad king might be false too. Only Bran knows for sure. Robert's Rebellion was built on Lannister lies.
What the sand snakes did to myrcella and to the martells was truly disgusting. Innocent children and the family who took and accepted them despite being bastards. Ellaria deserved what cersei did to her.
Rest in piece, Princess Myrcella Baratheon. You were so kindhearted, was caring to everyone you met and mattered to you, but was also assertive and able to stand your ground with a little bit of intelligence. You would’ve made a fine queen next to Prince Trystane.
"You haven't had to use that axe of yours in a long time... I hope you remember how." "Actually I thought I would just get unceremoniously stabbed in the back without putting up a fight and instantly dying, despite wearing a suit of armor at the time, if that's okay?
The scene with Myrcella telling Jaime she knows that he’s her Father and still loving and accepting him as her Father with the background music and the hug was the second saddest scene in GOT after Daenerys’s death.
It's sad to see two sweet children that were nothing like their mother and father and brat older brother had to die. Myrcella and Tommen they were sweet kids and nothing like Joffery or Ceresi.
“One day I pray you love someone. I pray you love her so much, when you close your eyes, you see her face. I want that for you. I want you to know what it’s like to love someone, truly love someone, before I take her from you." the sheer viciousness
This is by far the most tragic death in Game of Thrones Marcella is literally the only one who doesn't have blood on her hands she didn't deserve that shit but I realize that this is part of the story doesn't make it fair in my mind
It makes no sense that they even think about killing Myrcella, it contradicts what was established about Oberyn and his philosophy about harming innocent girls. This is where the series starts going downhill, when characters don't remain true to what was previously established about them
Cersei: "I don't know where she came from. No meanness, no jealousy. Just good." She came from Jamie and has her uncle's traits too. And Joffrey came from Cersei.
Hi all! A new Game of thrones fan here! I know Cersei is twisted and evil and stuff, but her sincere love for her daughter is something I greatly respect and admire.
The one and only time one of Jaime's children knew and accepted him as their father. It's such a rare and bittersweet moment for Jaime because this is the single time he's able to show a fraction of fatherly affection and in that moment he saw an actual life where he could be the parent he never knew he wanted to be, then like that, it was taken away from him.

It happens a lot through the series just because he is wearing a gold glove. But it is very difficult to keep a part of your body still so I think they just left minute movements alone.
Doran should've had the Sand Snakes executed or at least imprisoned after he caught a whiff of Ellaria's treason. It was clear that she was planning something the moment she asked how long Doran would be ruling, after they attacked and tried to abduct Myrcella and threat of the necklace. Too soft a heart, wasn't it?
Did you guys see the smile of Myrcella when she found out that Bran was okay. It would of been awesome if Bran and Myrcella got together, but maybe not because Bran became crippled and he became the one eye raven, but it would of been cool to see these two together.
would have loved to see his character grow and unite the south with the queen of thorns against the crown, at the very least. he was such a dignified man. the martells were genuinely good if you discount ellaria and her daughters with their penchant for cruelty, in fact most everyone else in their family was quite honourable and in good terms with the other great houses. i could barely root for the dany/dorne alliance by the end of last season tbh they deserved to perish for stooping as low as tywin instead of behaving like oberyn did may he rest in peace
