Gareth my old son. Do you have any idea why we love you & your channel 🤔? Simple. Your an honest, open bloke. You've lived what seems an interesting life, got a solid family base. All that and now you put out so many good quality vlogs. And, like the rest of us,you muck up. I'm sure we would all like to have a good wander around the house & grounds, but that's for the future. My wife & I both thought your Haddock and chips looked & sounded fantastic. Being cruel, we both had a bloody good chuckle when you shoveld lava hot mushy peas in😳🔥🌡️🫛. As always when you give the cost, we in London weep😢😥what you pay for the whole meal gets us a tiny bit of cod. To end with a heartfelt thank you for admitting that after the army you needed a hand, someone to help you with your situation. Your a brave, good bloke mate. Take care of yourself and the family. Allan&Family
Gareth, im from Liverpool, I got up early this morning and went to ALs Butty Box on the A590 , then went into Barrow and went the Pie Shop on Bath Street Mcleys bakery and got 2 Pies, Steak pie and Meat and potato ... all absolutely lovely.... went to Walney Island too .. a great day out
I love your videos where you drive around Furness and the South Lakes. It reminds me of my youth when I was at Vickerstown Junior School and later Barrow Grammar School. I spent most of the school holidays working with my uncle on his Cartmell's pop round, or out no my bike, or with the scouts. I still recognise most of the area, but my goodness, it has changed. I also like, and have made use of, your food reviews, but please don't stop the travelogue content as well.
I do like the addition of the lemon wedge. Was thinking a few days ago many the fish/chip shops dont include that. The chips look nice and golden. Not over cooked.
Hi Gareth, thanks for taking us out and about. Can't beat the UK when the weather is behaving itself. Your fish tea didn't look bad either. Keep up the spot on work. Best wishes from Scotland
Fish and chips round my way are so expensive from the chippy. It works out cheaper to get some fish and potatoes from the supermarket. But you can't beat proper fish n chips 😋 I could hear the batter crunch as you took a bite. Heaven 😊
That looks first class fish & chips. Not menny chip shops do good quality fish and chips a lot don't change the frying oil when they should just gives me indigestion. Thanks for sharing 👍
I remember some doctor on the TV years and years ago - pretty sure he was in Newcastle. Insisted that the reputation of fish&chips as being unhealthy was a nonsense - he knew of no healthier meal - as long as it was cooked properly and eaten in moderation. But he insisted that everything should be deep-fried the old-fashioned way, in lard, not the nasty modern stuff so many chippies used. If only because if the products weren't properly drained before sale, the customers might just accept oily stuff, whereas lard would congeal before the customer got home. Still no idea if he was right. But I've known chippies since who didn't even know enough to give their product that final super-hot last plunge. Hell hath no fury like soggy chips. Touring Scotland some years ago, I didn't like the look of the fish on display in the chippy we stopped by. So I ordered a a pie and chips. The scotch pie looked delicious - right up to the point they cooked it by dropping it in among the chips! The chips weren't too bad, but everything else went into a bin outside. And yes - for those who think it's an urban myth - fried Snickers bars, Mars bars and Cadburys Cream Eggs ARE a thing in Scotland!
Oh Fish and Chips in a different car and no tray OMG. See that Dodgy lad crossing the road looking a bit fishy and lucky he looked both ways or he might have got his chips. Was that fork plastic or wood as plastic ones have now been banned by the EU. Nothing better than a good review when you love the food you received and well done to them 5* very good. Enjoy making a spot on lower down 🥰🥰🥰🥰😃
I loved the "Aunt Sally" reference! I bet that flew over many peoples head that!!! RIP Una Stubbs & Jon Pertwee!! (LEGENDS!) EDIT: ALSO, You haven't had the best fish and chips until You come to Ireland! (especially the North!) ;-)
I hope you appreciate where you live mate. That looks lush. In Ireland we get soggy chips and soggy batter on the greasy fish. For all your Irish subs I know what I’m talking about. I deliver for a chipper. Top video Gaz. 👍
*What a wonderful food vlog and review 👌🙌👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻* Lovely person who served you,yup you walked straight into it lol. But a good walk into it. Fish and chips,oh my goodness- looked so good. You took a big hit the piping hot mushy peas . I realise we very much presume things on face value. We don’t know what struggles people are going through. This is why we all ought to treat others with care and respect. You should be proud of yourself I’m guessing. But,the fight remains.keep fighting and moving forward. Blessings sent
Gaz, so many of our ex-service personnel were discharged and then forgotten. Being a new sub I never knew about your past service. I am held now in awe that you would eat the worst food the UK has to offer (Not this fish supper though). Knowing that military scran is better! Good on ya mate!
Your area is lovely( at the moment) and I really like your little road trips. Didn’t matter to me that the place closed and the food looked nice. Maybe in the summer you could go to the beach to show us what it’s like. Lovely man, great channel✌️🏴🩷
Looks delicious and that is the way to serve takeaway fish and chips, side by side. Most chippys place the fish on top of the chips which can be an absolute disaster, especially if the fish is cooked to order and all the excess fat/oil soaks into the chips making them soggy and greasy 😲. Keep up the good work Gareth 👍.
£10.20 for fish and chips - and thats the takeaway pice not the sit in price, what a rip off, when I was younger fish and chips were really cheap and you could have a cheap tekeaway one a week, nowadays its so expensive I hardly go to the local chippy and prefer to make my own fish supper, but of course no trip to the seaside is complete without a fish supper
It is a tadge expensive, but if its good its worth it, I went to a chippy here in Glasgow reviewed last week by some Asia Glaswegian who said it was good with fresh fish, i got a tasteless piece of fish, which was frozen then battered, and it was greasy and horrible, so i will ditch his reviews from now on.
I like watching your reviews, saves me buying crap and wasting money. I have just ate icelands 100% fish fillet strips in chip shop curry batter. Lovely 😋 ex Guardsman myself and keeps me amused 😂
Lovely little place Ulverston. Birthplace of Stan Laurel. My nephew who was in the Scots Guards says there wasn't enough mental health help for him and other soldiers when they came out of the army and I think he and his friends have had a bit of Ptsd. So that's why he and his two army pals created a mental health podcast on RU-vid. Raise awareness of it and have a laugh at the same time.
I wasn't in the army, etc, but have interacted a lot with people who need some help afterwards. Obviously you've married, got your kids and got a good life going and come over as a good chap, but I hope you did get the help you needed. We all deserve that. x
When it takes 10 seconds to speak after eating some food you know its got to be good, one day if you're ever down south I'll take you round Dorset's best fish and chip shops, My treat. Love your videos mate
That looked cracking Gaz, I could eat that right now but we’ve got tea sorted, plus it’s a bit of a drive from here too 😂 My mate told me the other day he saw a load of Buddhist monks in a mini bus on the M6. I wonder if they were heading to that priory ? Show us another day perhaps ? Cheers Gaz 👍🏼🇬🇧🇬🇧
Very expensive compared to where I live,West Yorkshire, me a the Mrs got x2 fish a chips / 2 bread cakes / small curry a peas only yesterday it came to £13.70
Great review Gaz as always, that fish looked banging 😋 I know you’ve done some “cooking” 😉 in previous videos, do you think you might be able to try some of those curry kits at some point? I’ve always wondered about them 🤔❤️
Writing this comment from Halley Research Base, Antarctica 🇬🇧 All 9 of us just watched this video, so you just got 8 new subscribers from Antarctica. And as I’m Scottish, I’ll have to end it with making you laugh. So if you think getting steaming and faceplanting is bad? Try taking a dump in -41*c, whilst your baws have stuck to the pan and they’re no budging. Then someone shouts POLAR BEAR POLAR BEAR POLAR BEAR. you hear 7 loud screams and doors shutting as you’re in the outside toilet. Many a newcomer has lost a good half a ballbag of pubes as they fled in panic. It’s just a shame you only get Polar Bears in the Arctic eh 😂❤ You’re certainly not those newcomer guys. And don’t even try hit me with biscuit jokes p p p p pickup a penguin 😂❤ love ya big man x
Another cracking review Gareth. Ulverston is a bit out of the way for me, living in South Wales, but I do pass through there on the occasional business trip in that area. Priory Plaice looks like a good stop to spend our measly T&S allowance 😋
(290) I like being taken on a free tour. I love to travel, but I hate driving (NEVER got a driver's license and never will. I am 68.) Just adore having a gog at places I've never seen before; shame the Meditation center was booked. Maybe you can do a repeat and squeeze in a peek at the center and another go at the chippy but get something other than fish. By the looks of the meal, bet they've got a fair few other delicious things as well. Thanks, Gareth!!!
Love the channel, love the reviews and also love the out and about drives to sample different foods......great insight into the beauty and history of our country
We've got a great country especially up north stunning, and the fish and chips are cracking can't find decent fish and chips down south where I live so I've stopped eating the rubbish down here ,nice one Gareth
What an absolutely beautiful little part of our country you showed us Gaz, I think that sometimes folk forget just how beautiful our country is (especially in late spring / early summer) thank you for that😆 . P.S you did a great promo for the chippie too...I'm assuming that the edible contents of this video were "free and gratis"😆
I live in Kent, the so called Garden of England, more like the dumping ground now. Ive been up north, through the peak district, up along the A66 and its a stunning part of the country, seriously thinking about moving up there, been a lorry driver it wont be too hard for me to relocate.
We do have some lovely areas, I have been out having short caravan holidays and visiting the Lakes, Northumberland and Scotland, I have stopped using the A74m and M74 I use the old a74, think its now b7076/78 and the coastal roads in Northumberland and we know what the Lake roads are like. The times I pull over and get out to admire the views. Who needs a foreign holiday when you have the UK, and our lovely cafes and chippies
@@Glenn7719 Born and raised in Essex, but spent many years working in both Yorkshire and Lancashire - Such a beautiful part of the Country, and the folks up there are "spot on" - Salt of the earth, and overall friendlier than in the South, in my personal experience. And the food is great! Thinking of retiring there myself...
As one of your many American fans, I'm afraid I get tripped up by English english. Rumbled? Thanks again for a look at English food. If you want decent fish and chips here in California's central valley, you better be ready to drive an hour of more!
My local chippy - happily - closed down last year. I say happily not because they were bad, but because they were excellent! So excellent I continued to use them, just once a week, despite my doctor's constant warnings. So I suppose their closure may well have given me another year of life, given I'm so ancient I can't drive any more. Except, as I don't get out much, my son just recently frogmarched me to his car ("come on you sad old bugger, we're going out!") and drove me to a sit-down chippy about 30 miles away. OMG!!! If great fish and chips (and mushy peas - I'm not an amateur) are forever a pleasure, then imagine how they taste when you haven't had them in a year? I even had some cod roe - and it's been decades since I saw that in a chippy. And, of course, a double grouse in the pub just doors away. I wouldn't have changed places with King Charlie! I had some supermarket battered fish and frozen chips in the freezer. I've given them to the food bank in despair - just can't bear the thought. As for my son, he's been told he may have started something he can't finish. All terribly dangerous in my state of health, according to my doctor. But if old age has taught me nothing else, it's that there HAS to be more to life than simply not being dead yet. I have only one fear left in my life - that I might end up under the front wheels of a bus thinking, "Oh ffs! I should have HAD that pork pie !"
Thank you Gareth for sharing such a beautiful part of our country, it really does make a difference. The fish and chips looked amazing, I could do with some of that now! I've never been in the Army but I've heard it can often be tough after, and wish you all the best. Thank you also for the videos, you've been helping me with my own personal woes, the past 30 years it's been one thing after the other, but I'm getting better. Take care and as you say I hope you're spot on.
Heya, i was searching for chilli con carne like asda vs the other ones and i came across your channel, i'm currently binge watching your videos right now as you're a funny guy, love the jokes, the leaf one made me laugh "i'm turning over a new leaf", i've subscribed to you and can't wait to see more videos from you!
Lovely trip through the country with Gareth, what a shame it was shut it looks great. I am not a fishy person but that looks good and good luck to them and hope they are successful. Fire extinguisher 🧯for the peas 😂 On a different note we all have had our demons hope yours are all gone.
It's grim when you decide to do something and fully committed to the task and find out its closed. At least it wasn't too far of a journey and could've been worse 😂 I'm off the chips atm but love a large Cod and peas or curry sauce poured over the top 😋 Great content as usual mate 😉👍
It looks beautiful around there. Would be lovely to see some videos around the beach areas as I love watching the water as it’s very calming although I appreciate that this might not be everyone’s cup of tea.
hi Gaz from down south, fish and chips looks great, am still waitng for our new fish shop to open, will keep you updated. new cafe opening in our local tesco which they own, Harris and Hoole are now gone !
What a great video gareth. Shame the priory was closed, you may be able to show us what its like in the future. Loved the fish and chips shop part of the video. Its always a pleasure to watch your reviews of food. Hope your mum and dad are keeping well. I still think your video of your mum making sunday lunch was such a cracking video.
Have cod to ask you have you haddock enough of my puns you had batter tell and let minnow, or do they put you in a plaice or get under your skin and affect your bones?!
Gareth, that looked good, never had fish and chips from a chippie for years, too expensive now. Long gone are the days you could say we will have a family chippie tea, the best part of £40 now, that's a few nights dinner, from Aldi.
Pity that the priory was closed - I would have liked to have seen the old building and the walk down to the beach to work up a visual appetite for the fish 'n' chips. I'm stuck in gloomy London in a basement getting ready to leave work.
But £13 + for fish and chips with a drinks peas is insane ! That’s why I stick to the local well trusted chippys rather that the tik tok ones !! You would have to spend around 50 quid to feed dinner for a family of 4! Insanity
SMALL peas £1-60????? People are being scammed left ,right and bloody centre!! I would have thrown the peas back at them and told them where to shove 'em!. ....Peas.... one of the cheapest and most basic foodstuffs.
Fish and chips looked lovely, you've given me a hankering for fish n chips now and its only just past 6 in the morning here 😂 It's a pity you couldn't take us for a look-see around that beautiful old building today, maybe another time. Thanks for sharing 👍
Fantastic video as always Gaz mate I must admit now days lol fish and chips are a luxury takeaway ha ha especially in the fish and chippy in Darlington near my flat lol a large battered cod and large chips near enough £10 for them pricey lol but the chippy near me is rather good 👍😊
@@BaldFoodieGuy true Gaz lol 😂 I agree with you there ha bad joke I know but there was an enormous fight in my local chippy the other night lol several fish got battered lol bad corny joke I know lol facepalm 🥴lol 😂
Loved this & wished we could have had a mooch about the meditation centre- another time …Friday is always chippy day, thank you for sharing and have a brilliant weekend x😊
That looked lovely fish and chips mate. Look forward to seeing the retreat if you ever go back, could have done with it a couple of times over the years too 👍
